Star Wars themed land announced for Disneyland

I have mixed feelings. I want them to do it, but I don't exactly know how I feel about putting it in Walt's original Magic Kingdom. A specifically Star Wars focused land just doesn't jive with the rest of the park, the classic lands, the broader themes. Someone else could explain it better than I.
I agree with this entirely. If you're going to put Star Wars in a Magic Kingdom, it can only reasonably work as a part of Tomorrowland. to better explain your point, the 8 current lands of Disneyland Park have a sense of cohesiveness and come together seamlessly to tell The greater story of the Magic Kingdom. If you add Star Wars land, the seamless cohesion breaks due to the different tone Star Wars has from the theme of classical Disney. I think they should consider to A. buy enough land a third park where franchises like Marvel and Star Wars can be used seamlessly as lands, or B. keep Star Tours in Tomorrowland as is. I'd prefer option A. all the way but it just seems like Disney's place making aside from the studios redo is getting worse and worse.

Yes really, yes. That highway system didn't exist at the time Autopia opened. And Tomorrowland was thematically coherent at one time.

Cars existed. And highways existed. The interstate act was a year or so away. It's an enormous reach to call Autopia a thematic fit.

You want a TL overhaul? Me too. Until then, Guardians fits in well in TL as it stands. And probably better than Autopia ever did.

"Better than Autopia ever did..." That doesn't make a lick of sense. I'm just going to leave it at that.

Over in the DHS thread on Star Wars Land, @fuentesalex came up with this map once several insider types kept claiming Toontown wasn't part of the acreage to be used for Anaheim's Star Wars Land.

Here's a map that shows what 14 acres is like that keeps Toontown in operation. Interesting the possibilities here!

Update: It was later revealed that Star Wars Land at Disneyland will be taking over Big Thunder Ranch and nearby backstage areas to comprise that 14 acres. It will begin construction by the end of 2017. (Source: @DisneylandToday)
I wonder if Disney purposely didn't mention Toontown going away to keep the uproar to a minimum for now. Of course, this could be 100% true an they are just going further north and keep Toontown as someone else's map showed.

That still leaves the issue of "tomorrow". Where the hell is that in Disneyland?
Disneyland needs to have Tomorrowland revamped more than it needs a Star Wars Land.

Can we get rid of Mickey and the MEHgical map instead of Big Thunder Ranch? Just move those boundaries.

If Toontown stays and Star Wars Land is right next to it, I wonder if they could somehow connect them together to get rid of that dead end. Not sure how they could thematically, but then again, it's also going to sit right next to Fantasyland and Frontierland, so why not? Upgrades to TT would be nice too, if it stays. At least slap some paint on stuff, the place looks worse with each day.

The way I think of Star Wars land is that it is the Disneyland Fantasyland expansion. It is in roughly the same spot that one would go and Star Wars fits into the Fantasy realm more than any other. So for all the Disneyland shouldn’t have 1 IP lands, think of it as mini-land within Fantasyland. A mega sized mini land.

My concern is that resort starting to shift back into heavily lopsided attendance towards Disneyland’s favor. I imagine Marvel in DCA is designed to counteract that but Star Wars >>>Marvel especially based on what has been rumored so far.

Speaking as if Disney really is planning to put a whole land themed to Marvel at DCA, with the right plans, it could definitely pull in crowds with no problem. I'd say the Marvel stories/characters as a whole are just as popular as Star Wars.

They could make an entrance where chip and dale's ball pit used to be. They could put an AA Jar Jar waving good bye to mark the entrance to Toon Town.

I haven't seen any legit insider say Toontown ISN'T closing - my sources are saying Disney just doesn't want to fess up to it yet. The construction for this land is going to start much sooner than they're letting on and despite the out of the way location, guests will feel it in ways that haven't been discussed in public yet.

The other problem with this kind of diagram is that the buildings directly behind Toontown are the giant rehearsal halls Disney is moving across the street. If Toontown isn't being taken over, then moving those halls doesn't need to be done.

I think Disney is being tight lipped about this on purpose - even the DisneylandToday account won't out right say Toontown isn't closing, just that the new land will include Big Thunder Ranch and backstage facilities.

So while I'm not anti-Toontown, I don't think it's out of the woods just yet.

I would assume that it would be a lot like the FrL/FantL transition: A gate. LOL.

Star Wars may be Fantasy, but that doesn't mean it meshes well with an alpine/European village behind a castle... Oy...

Keep Moving Forward
Tearing down I would think would start soon. Groundbreaking in 2017 means the ceremony to start official construction so they are thinking a whole year to clear the area I guess.

I hope it turns out well. They can do a lot with Marvel and I see a long term problem with then jamming it into that sliver with no room for expansion. Unless of course they do the multiple parks thing.

And it’s set away from Fantasyland and appears from the concept art it will blend in with the entrance at Big Thunder Ranch. New Fantasyland in Florida is made up of mini lands that aren’t cohesive to one setting. Beauty and the Beast sits next to Little Mermaid that take place in very different environments. I don’t have a problem with that.

If all Disney is planning to do with the property is add one ride, DCA will be stuck in the same position it was in back in 2001. This should be an interesting few years ahead.
