Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

So to talk about the whole can easily be redressed to OT, I agree it could however there are some issues:

1. The ride must occur earlier the Empire Strikes Back, Vader was focused on finding Luke who was not really with the rebels at that time (he was on Degoba with Yoda) thus he had no reason to harass rebel recruits

2. Which character is going to replace Finn? Luke was a bit of a celebrity and the ace leader of the Rouge Squadron he could easily replace Poe in the ride but having him infiltrating a ship with Vader on it makes no sense, not to mention Vader has the ability to sense Luke. Nor does it make sense for Han who after Episode 4 is still very self centered and would never put his life needlessly in harms way. You’re stuck using a ride original character as your main character helping you. Everyone else has an easy story equivalent except Hux (Poe/Luke, Ren/Vader, BB-8/R2 with or without 3PO, Ray/Leia or Mon Marthma) or don’t need to change (Mon Calamari, Nein-Nub.). Thankfully Hux is easily replaced by a random Empirial Admiral .

3. The only other things (other then swiping FO stuff for Empire stuff) that would need to change would be the name of the planet the base is on (Let’s make it Hoth) and how you get away from Vader, for while it is totally in character for Ren to end up like a putz under a pile of rocks, Vader is another story. You could have a bunch of debris fall from the ceiling and have Vader stop it in mid air using the force but at the expense of releasing your ship. Then just before you get ejected you could get a Vader Noooo! and have the pod shake with cracks appearing on your windshield.

I still think this would be a wash as I don’t think having a random spy escorting you is fully countered by having Vader. There is however one time period where you could match everyone except the x-wing leader: Just before Rouge One (Finn/Cassien, BB-8/K2SO, Ren/Vader, Hux/Tarkin, Rey/Bail) I think this time period would improve on the ride, but unfortunately the characters are too obscure.

So basically, I doubt this ride ever gets reskinned to an OT time period, too many problems.

I'd solve all those problems by simply making it a non-canonical adventure. Timeline issues? Just 'magic handwave' those away (like they already are with the black X-wing and Ren's intact helmet). Just have it be Vader vs. the rebellion IN GENERAL. I'd replace one Finn with Luke and the other Finn with Han. We're used to seeing the two of them in stormtrooper gear, so it would work. Wedge could be the escort X-wing in the preshow.

Having said all this - I think you are probably right. The ride appears to be a great hit. Unless Episode 9 ruins the franchise, they won't reskin it within the next 20-30 years. What might be more likely is that when RotR is cloned somewhere new (Paris? Tokyo? Brazil?), an OT version could be a possibility. But it would have to be in a country with a rabid "OT > ST" fan base. I'd assume America would be the most picky about that sort of thing, but I don't really know.

Honestly there is no need to swap in the OT.

The ride is amazing as it is, and the OT would result in a few fans being stoked and no one else caring.

You add OT and what content do you use? Restricted to just old movie footage then? Do you just pull audio from the movie ? Or use voice actors to try and replicate the OT cast? I’m sure if they just pulled from movies people would say they were lazy and unoriginal... and if they use voice actors people will just say they should have taken audio from movies.

Disney’s best action plan is to finish this movie, and run as far as they can from the OT/Skywalker storyline.

Nice ideas, but I think the other reason for the ceiling piece covering up Ren is to hide him from any guests coming into the room that are looking where they shouldn't. If you watch one of the 360 videos you'll see that the piece is down until right before he speaks.

As long as the voice actors were good I don’t think most people would have a problem. Also I think a very large amount of people would be excited for having one of the most beloved villains in all of fiction in the ride.

Some good thoughts here. I know at Indy I always see the snake before I should, plus Mansion has some places that you can see ahead as well. Probably some on other rides as well. Keeping everyone focused on the scene at hand with all the opening and closing doors and ride vehicles spinning to focus in one area seems to have accomplished this.

One other random thought, thanks to preshow 2, I believe Rise is the first Disney ride anywhere where we witness (2) deaths in real time (Poe’s two wing men, Red 2 and Blue 1 I believe)

We witness 5 deaths on ToT. We witnessed someone getting eaten on Alien Encounter and even got splattered in blood. We see a dino getting eaten on Dinosaur.

Didn’t some ships explode on the original Star Tours?

Phantom Manor is rather explicit.
