Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

You think most folks buying these will operate them 16 hours a day, non stop, every day?

Does anybody actually think any more?

I was being somewhat facetious in response to your assumptions regarding them only being used in temporary displays. However yes, I do think there are people who will operate them 16 hours a day, but more importantly they are perfectly capable of doing so. It states on their website that one of the features is the fact that you can, "let it play 24/7."

I'm actually quite intrigued about this one. How are they going to pull off the illusion that blasts of light will leave the cannons and exit the windows? Long ago, when I thought guests would be wearing 3D glasses, I thought the cannons would be far enough over your heads to have their blasts be 'within the frame' of the windows. And the blasts could simply be part of the video seen outside, but percieved to be coming from right over your head because of the 3D effect.

Since we know the ride doesn't use glasses, I guess this could be a giant version of the same projection-on-a-fan tech that the stormtroopers are using?

Sure seems like a lot of fan hardware you'll have to hide somehow.

Looking at the photo they seam to be over your head completely and close to the window. I would assume then that you will feel it and the "laser" will be only on the screens.

You think Disney isn’t designing something more robust than is manufactured for commercial sale?

Sounds similar to the idea that the Kylo Saber on the ride couldn’t possibly be impressive because the toys they sell aren’t.

So what are the odds of them doing a soft opening a few weeks ahead of the opening? I’ll be the the 2nd week of November. Sorry if this has already been discussed

A flash of light from the muzzle combined with the laser on the screen should work based on how close the gun is to the window and the fact you will be under it. One of my favourite parts of Pirates is the firing of the cannon balls. This will be right up there with that.

From the Disney+ special - projection mapping CONFIRMED! (see the legs)
This is prob. how they will give the illusion the heads are moving and firing at you.

What I find interesting is the construction fence in front of the walkers... that typically means there's something that can harm people past that fence. I don't know what that could be, but some sort of pyro could be a possibility. Another possibility is something moving past the fence, possibly the AT-AT heads.

Hmmm yeah maybe a trip hazard. They have laptops on the table so maybe cords and such? It seems extreme but then again, Disney is a 24/7 target for lawsuits by anyone.

I kind of doubt that. Considering that the AT-AT heads are huge, weirdly shaped objects, I don't think trying to make them move around with projections would look good at all. I cannot imagine it's that hard to simply make the heads move back and forth the old fashioned way.

My guess is that the projections on the AT-ATs will either be used to augment the amount of blaster fire in the room, or to create smoke and sparks where the blasts are hitting.

..yeah I did confirm today that the heads DO move.
