I disagree. With the right budget and an R&D department tasked with the job, I believe you could get a more believable effect. Off the top of my head I would try things like: clear acrylic tube shaped like light saber beam filled with a fluorescent liquid and UV LEDs inside the liquid, or video mapping tracking the prop, or a belt made of LED strips that spin high speed. All these things were probably tried and who knows what else. I’m hoping they didn’t take the lazy way out.

If they could make a lightsaber actually look how it does in one of the films it would cost more than 200 bucks and would have been done by those companies that make the high quality sabers a long time ago. Right now as far as realistic saber options you only have 3: you have the plasitc cheap kind that kids get at target or walmart that they have to make a dashing motion to make the blade come out that does not light up, the ones with the light up ability but you still have to make that dashing motion to make the blade come out and the ones that look like a white tube is fixed on the handle already that when you hit the activation button light up the blade color, these kind you can get at savi's and the other saber dealers online but their hilts are better than savi's with more selections. even if you get a nice looking kylo saber with a movie accurate hilt that is expesnive and lights up, its just a white tube that turns red. it does not have that wonky fiery effect kylo's has because there is no way to do that in real life or it would have been done already. so you are going to get a red saber with a cross like kylo's that does not have the fiery blade that is not screen accurate come through a pre cut metal hole with a cover that moves off to the side as the effect takes place on the ride or you will get a cgi projection of the blade coming through to get that fiery effect. so again common sense. temper your expectations for this ride.

As I stated in my last post, With the right budget and an R&D department, I believe we could get a lot more than just a toy saber coming through the ceiling. If your argument is that because we haven’t seen a toy come out that is realistic, that must mean that in a controlled environment with an industrial quality setup that it is all we can hope for, I’d say it’s a weak argument.

I’m not saying you’re wrong and that Disney won’t disappoint, But I do think you are wrong that, if they tried, they couldn’t get anything more realistic than what we’ve seen in a toy.

. . . You do realize that a ride is different from merchandise, right?

Just because it isn't practical to create a Kylo saber for popular consumption that accurately replicates the effect of his beam doesn't mean you can't do it in a controlled ride environment.

Like how Olaf is more screen-accurate as an in-ride animatronic than he is as a walkaround character, because the circumstances under which they operate are just wildly different.

you missed my point. the only way they could do it in a control environment like i said before is going to be a projection effect but you are going to easily tell its fake. there is no way to make a practical blade that looks like it does in the film. so its going to be a fake projection or look like one from savi's. either way its not going to look good. so again temper your expectations. this is the crack team that made Jack Jacks on sticks.

The people creating the Kylo Ren saber effect are not the same people who put Jack Jack on a stick.

still modern day imagineering. My original point is that promo video with the saber cutting through the grating and sparks flying is nothing but cgi bull$hiit and if you wana believe it go ahead but the effect used will not look anything like that. neither will the laser shots from the storm troopers.
