Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

So many people comparing this to MM... I wonder how many have actually ridden it. MM has to be one of the most overrated rides in the last 15 years. I’ve been on too many times to count and I can say this- Watching Rise from a YouTube video is better than MM in person. Rise looks completely different league. We haven’t seen a ride of this scale since Indy.
It will become clear to all just how good Rise is (if it isn’t already) when they see Rat.

So what time are people getting there tomorrow morning?

...when the land itself opened, the parking lot was open at midnight and everyone gathered by the overpass along the walkway to the land. They escorted everyone over at 3:30am and let them in around 3:45. This was for the 6am opening. DHS isn;t supposed to open until 8am. Not sure if any of this helps...

Man that was a big let down. The intro made no sense. Drones took forever to turn..and turn, and turn, then down with a star trek flash? Then the long awkward pause after the actors left (B team of actors) before Chapek. Fireworks were nice, but just as good when mission breakout opened.
A 15min waste of cash they could have spent on the ride.

Biggest thing now: don't break down tomorrow.

the parking lot didn’t open at midnight. I was there the opening day. The parking lot opened a bit after 3.

You know what's funny?

im sure they spent enough cash on this ride. Lol.

I don't want to dogpile on a new ride that I have not even ridden, but in the spirit of Star Wars, I'm sure the company has had a series of moments where they had to "search their feelings, for [they] know it to be true." I see that Kylo scene and am replaying in my head what would happen there in the OT.

Your car is cruising quickly but comes to a very harsh stop. The lights go out. Sparks start shooting out of control panels. You feel the car slowly creep backwards as you hear the heavy breathing fill the room, only to have it pierced by the light and sound of a lightsaber ignition. The car swirls around, and you're confronted with Vader, towering over you, cape flowing, hand clenching into a fist.

The creators of that moment cement themselves as creating a defining memory in the minds of tens of millions of people.

Instead, it's Kylo Ren ducking a falling ceiling.

You know there are designers who worked on this ride who thought of this exact scenario.

I say this as someone who is excited and relieved that the ride looks to be a great experience, and a reassertion that WDI can still deliver great themed ride attractions that engage and satisfy the whole family. It's great to see the marriage of decades of ride system concepts come together, and I hope it can stay together. I hope and expect to have a new #1 in Orlando, and that #1 to be back in Disney after my next visit.

But everyone knows this is true: the Star Wars Lands would have been better if the egos stepped aside and let these experiences be a tribute to the original trilogy instead of a project built on all of the work and the minimum amount of necessary nostalgia Lucas created.
I agree with all of this. The ride looks absolutely incredible and well done, but it is, IMO, missing an emotional connection that would have been there if this took place in the OT (as is most of Galaxy's Edge). I'm not going to get into details as this has been beat to death, but the general public just hasn't had enough time to form an emotional connection to the sequel trilogy characters, if it will happen at all. And yes, when I imagine what this ride would have been like if it took place during a death star escape with Vader, Solo, Leia, etc., it hurts a bit (ok a lot), especially that Vader scene you described.

THE NOT SOO GOOD:
The Storm Troopers once you get off then ITTS SHUTTLE have little to no movement.
The door that "falls apart" as the reisistance members help younescap and load you onto the vehicles looks crappy.
The Probe Droid comes down too sloow and you can tell how the effect is done
Too many screens used in the ride that looknlike screens
Having a General Hux AA
The Lightsaber effect is like I predicted
The At-At heads don't move so Disneylied in its advertising and STARWARSGALAXYEDGE poster lied about them moving and the Kylo running st you part or his source lied to him
THE STORY IS CONVULTED AND POINTLESS. The ride's story is "spinning its wheels the ride." We are recruited, get captured, escape only to go back to batuu on our merry way. Um..werent we on our way to see Leia cuz she needed us? Why not have her come to Batuu at the end. "Sorry you couldnt come to me so i came to you". Guess that mission to leia was meaningless if they dont have us get on another ship to go see her. Also why is Finn on the ship?? Did he know we were going to get randonly kidnapped in advance? If not why is and the other resistance fighters in disguise on a random star destroyer???
The Finn AA's are too robotic.
The last Kylo AA looks very robotic and moves unnaturally and the door falling in front of him is not convincing at all and looks like something out of Earthquake from Universal as othera have pointed out.
Overall it is a solid ride. I like it as a whole but its been way overhyped. Is it a good ride? Hell, yeah. Does it look fun? Hell, yeah. Does it set a new Imagineering bar? Hell, no. Is it the best Star Wars ride? Hell, no. Star Tours is better and more thrilling and fun and Hyperspace Mountain is fantastic. Does it make up for the Falcon Ride? 100% yes. I like it. Its exactly what I thought it would be. I don't hate it, I am not in love with it. But its decent and that is all it had to be. And I lovr that it uses actual Star Wars music for once in the land.

I actually got into an argument with a CM today for criticizing the lack of movement in the Stormtoopers. Got called an "armchair imagineer" for suggesting they look like someone set up a bunch of giant action figures in a line. A little arm movement and maybe some variety in the way they're posed would have went a long way. It's just too perfect and unhumanly still. Disney AA's should be better than the stuff i see out on lawns during Halloween.

I find it interesting that so many people are comparing this ride directly to other trackless rides.

I have ridden both Rat and MM and one is great and one is exceptional in my opinion.

Rise is not meant to capture the amazement caused by Pooh's Hunny Hunt, Mystic Manor, and Ratatouille.

Rise is meant to be an extremely large scale attraction that amazes through not just the sense of storytelling but through immersion and grandeur.

The rides which qualify in this category in my personal opinion are Radiator Spring's Racers, Indy, Pirates of the Carribean in Shanghai, and it appears the up and coming Beauty and the Beast attraction in Tokyo.

I have been lucky enough to have ridden all of these attractions, of course, with the exception of BatB.

For an attraction to be included in the category it requires an extra oomph that other headliner E-Tickets lack.

My next trip is in January and until then I will not make any judgments on Rise as it is so different from the conventional riding experience.

My favorite ride is by far Pirates in Shanghai. You can simply board the vehicle and experience something truly incredible.

Rise turns this notion on its head, emphasizing the preshow to the point it becomes the show. I view this as if the roles of the Cast Members and guest switch in The Great Movie Ride where the guest transfers to different portions to complete the experience.

I was initially very skeptical of a ride experience being split up into so many different elements, but I have grown to like the thought.

I have never been more excited to experience an attraction before, but I am not afraid of overhyping myself as despite knowing the general ride elements, I know I will still be surprised in countless ways.

Answer to this is no. I’m at the media event now. After the opening ceremony, I walked over to the ride, and they told me to come back later. I came back 45 min later and they said it’s down for the night. Pretty disappointing since I haven’t ridden it yet and no way I’m waiting in that line tomorrow since I have young kids with me. It’ll probably be 3 years until I get to come back and ride :/

That’s a shame. Many media got to ride several times today.

The problem with the new ride and Galaxy’s Edge in general is the poor story telling that is full of plot holes. If they can tighten the narrative and just repaint Batuu as Tatooine, it’ll be a quicker fix than explaining it away. This place has Sequel Trilogy written all over it. It just doesn’t work. Rise of Resistance is so poorly written. It’s awful and amateurish. Kylo Ren as the only character chasing after the Recruits is sloppy and lazy. It could be more.

You know if WDI and Universal Creative didn’t like your resume, there’s always SeaWorld.

Now that's something I'm really curious about; how will we feel about Rise after April 15? Will our opinions change or remain the same?

We have no idea what the queue/pre-show will be for BatB, but it has high expectations to live up to.
