Ugh, that means I likely won't be riding this trip. The posted hours say 8 AM for Tuesday the 14th, and I was thinking I'd at least be able to get a backup boarding group if I just showed up at 8-8:15. I'm not interested in showing up at 6 AM to get in line though.

Dates for next week are still 8am (according to the official hours on disney.go). I pray you're right about this Martin; My fiancé will leave me if I surprise her at 5am with a wake-up to get on RotR only to find out we're 2 hours early. 😆

If they're gonna continue to open at 7 they should just change it on the app sooner rather than later. I'm currently eyeing SDD FP for Feb 1 if they move that to 7 as well.

It sure is. When we went Saturday, I had a full battery when we got there ~6:30. Because of the whole Boarding Group process, I had the MDE app open far more than I typically do and my battery was sapped by noon. (I also was using the Play Disney Parks app while in line for RotR). While my phone is getting long in the tooth and could use a refreshed battery (2017 Pixel XL), I usually get 2/3 of a day out of a single charge under moderate use.

I'm quite convinced it's the app's usage of location services that's primarily to blame.
