So I won’t be able to go in the morning by myself and get a boarding group for my family? Will my whole family have to go with me in the morning?

Correct. If your family members haven't "tapped in" to the park when you go to get a boarding group, they won't be eligible to be added to the boarding group. (In the app, they won't appear as options to be selected and added to your boarding party.)

We're hitting DHS Jan 29th (wed). Let's hope touring plans and this thread have served me wisely.

Same. We arrive 2/17 (with HS rope drops planned for 2/22, 2/23 and possibly 2/19). I'm just praying they'll adjust the scheduled hours before then!!! Right now HS is scheduled to be open daily from 9am-8pm. On a school break week. With crowds peaking at 10/10. With no morning EMH. With an attraction that doesn't have adequate throughput and isn't reliably operational at park opening or any other time... but is at the top of my entire family's "to-do" list and without which we wouldn't even be going to WDW before 2022. I'm getting hives just thinking about it!

Thanks for letting me know. I have a 0% chance of organizing 7 people and a scooter at that time of morning bummer. Looks like I’m ditching the family lol.

I get it, We're going in with the expectation that we're not getting a BG, so it takes the anxiety off a bit.

We'll be there tomorrow night and plan to get up at 5:20am Saturday morning and walk over from the BC so we can be at the entrance by 6am. Whole point of this trip is to go on this ride, so not getting a boarding pass is not an option (too many double negatives, but whatever, you get my point).

If you are walking, I'd suggest that a 6am "departure" from the BC would be plenty of time. Of course you do you, but I know how valuable those extra few minutes of sleep can be heading into a ROTR day. :)

Even if the crowds are backed up to security, it doesn't take more than 15 mins to make it through the gates. I most likely will be there too lol

At this point, as long as your family is tapped in by 7AM you're good to go, not need to get there too early if the result will be the same.

My only concern is that it's a holiday weekend and the crowds might be worse. We get up at 5:30 normally so its no biggie to get up 10 mins earlier. Thanks for the advice though!

Thats not always the case for example right now it is 10:30 they are boarding groups 9-33 and all groups 110 and over are backup groups, so no way any backup groups will get called today and they will be lucky to make all 110 regular groups.
The current Boarding Groups are 83-112, so as of 4:35 they are already calling the first couple of back-up groups....

I don't know how many Back up Groups were assigned today, but there is a decent shot of ALL Back-up Groups of being called....

I know if was a bit freaky this a.m. as it took til past 8:00 for ANY Boarding Group to be called......scared many peeps! If there was EVER a day for the Back up Groups not to be called, the way today it was certainly a candidate!!

I was there this A.M. and took many pics that I'll upload later.....pics of the lines to get in prior to 6:30 A.M.....pics of the Slinky Dog line wrapped all the way out of TSL to the Walt Disney Presents Mike and Scully Theatre Area! Pics of the "inner rope drop area" on Hollywood BLVD.....etc......

It was crazy, but within a couple of hours it was manageable...sort of...but much busier than we expected

By the way....I have another pic showing Boarding Groups 31-52 being called...the pic was taken at 12:07

I'm staying at Pop Century and decided to head over to Hollywood Studios this morning on the Skyliner. When we got to the Skylier at 6:10 am, we were told it would not open until 7:30 am even though they had all the gondolas going. I ended up having to drive to Hollywood Studios since the line for the Hollywood Studios bus was ridiculously long, was in the gates by 6:45 am and got Boarding Group #60. Rode the ride by 2:00 pm.

In case anyone is interested, we had boarding group 84 today. With the delayed opening, we were called at around 2:50pm (while saying to enter Savi’s). We got to the ride around 3:30, was maybe a 25 minute wait for the first pre-show. Everything was working perfectly from what I could tell - great ride! Appreciate everyone’s posts here as it really helped with the planning.

Further....they've made past Boarding Group 110 (the last Boarding Group), and are currently calling Groups 96-127.......

So translated, the Back-up Boarding Groups 111-127 have been called as of 5:28 P.M.

I wouldn't arrive any earlier than 30 mins before Park Opening.....and getting there that early will still have you see extreme line to scan in to the Park

I get everyone is not risking it, but as long as you have scanned in by Park open, you'll be fine

And remember, the Boarding Groups do not Open until Park Opening.....we arrived prior to 6:30 A.M. this morning, and the Boarding Groups "opened" at 7:00 A.m. (Park Opening).........we got Group 21 at 7:00-7:02ish this A.M.....

**edit** By the way Boarding Group 21 was called at 9:34 A.M. this morning....and remember, there was an over hour delay in calling any Boarding Group....so when the ride opened, it moved along quickly
