Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening reports and using Boarding Groups at Disneyland

It seems odd to me since people are going to have to go from waiting in line at the gates to waiting for the park to open spend an hour in line total, then spend another hour and a half in line once they are called for the ride. I think why not just have a giant line with a cut off point? It becomes more confusing this way than convenient in my opinion.

At DHS, barring any ride stoppages, the wait in line has only been in the 20-30 minute range before making it to the first preshow. That's one benefit to a VQ without set return times. They can regulate how many and how quickly groups are recalled to keep the people physically in line manageable.

I agree. Why is the parking lot open at midnight for people to camp out for an 730 turnstile opening? If the park wanted to be fair they would distribute boarding passes in person as you enter the park.

I did not realize this. Thank you for the information.

This is true. One has to allow enough time to go through security and getting through the line at the gate before the opening time.

Again if Disney truly wanted to do first come first serve they'd open turnstiles at 800 and as you get in you get your boarding pass, this way the queue on the app isnt slammed all at once.
That's not really the goal, the DHS thread on this has been fascinating to watch over the past month as WDW has tweaked the system. It's a lesser of all evils - if it's first come, first served you get people lined up at midnight and wrestle each other to get through the turnstiles. This seems to be the "best" trade off of not having to arrive in the middle of the night, not having to wait in a 5 hour line, and not having to deal with people stuck in a queue for hours when there is downtime. The obvious negative is that someone who strolls in at 7:59 has the same chance to get a BG as someone who was there at 5 am - so the learning is, don't show up at 5 am.

Makes sense.
I would assume that if there were hoards of people like there was at DHS that the other rides would have longer load times. It sounds like a rather pleasant day there today. there is none of this....

There was plenty of that... did you not see the photos outside the gates?

People need to re-think how these BG crowds apply to the park. Someone with a boarding pass of 100+ doesn't need to stick around in the park. So at DHS, people left, went elsewhere, went home/hotel, etc. At DLR, the huge capacity of the park right there, plus DCA right next door means anyone who is waiting.. has plenty of places to go.

Additionally, anyone who was there specifically to try to get on RoTR knows within the first hours if they were excluded... so there are not thousands of 'maybes' lingering around. Once BG are gone, they know they can decide what else to do.

BGs cap how many people are lingering due to the ride... and the predictability and return times means they aren't necessarily lingering in the land/park either.

DO NOT GO FOR THE TICKETS.

The paper passes had 50 total printed before cut off, 50! Not 50 groups, 50 tickets. You have a strong chance with the app, and can get them for everyone in your group for the same boarding group without risk.
..and the printer jammed today-ate some folks tickets

Ok so question.

I’m considering going Monday with my brother and his friend. I have an AP connected to the app while he would be buying tickets. Do I have to link his tickets to my app prior to getting a boarding group, or can I get the group and then add his tickets to it?

Can someone walk me through the process of obtaining a boarding group? I'm not going until March, but if the same procedure is still in place, I would like to know how it works.

I assume without the app, you need to go grab a ticket at a kiosk, like fast pass?

How does it work with the app? Do you need Maxpass for this?

Looks like you should have all tickets in your party linked to the Disneyland app. Once you're scanned in to the park, you join a boarding group via the app. Be there for park opening.

for all you smart people on WDWmagic

SO friend is goin nest week for his birthday. He bought all the passes himself and has them on his phone.
he is asking how that will work once they are at the parks.

-does he have to scan the passes for everyone when they enter and when they get fastpasses?
-He wants to know he everyone in the group can get their passes on their phone so they can split up if necessary and have their passes with them.
as for boarding groups if all passes are on his phone are they automatically linked so he can get boarding pass at same time for all six people?

Since the tickets are on the phone, the ticket taker will scan each ticket and take the photo. Their names will be keyed in if it wasn’t already on the app since there’s no transfering of tickets. If new plastic tickets are issued in exchange, it’s automatic. No need to update the tickets on the app. Just get the boarding group since everyone is linked. Each person can take their own ticket, open app, and get their own Disney account. Do this ahead of time. I haven’t split off a ticket in this case. It’s trial and error. Unlink the ticket and let’s see what happens, but I caution if it ruins the boarding group.

Easier to split off the tickets into separate Disney accounts before arriving at the park and then link together the boarding group. Getting Fastpasses should be the same procedure as getting the BG.

Make everyone responsible for their own ticket since splitting off is more complicated after the fact. This is a minefield and maybe just leave him to figure it out himself.
