So, got a guy in the group that forgot his pass at home... He does have the thing linked on his Disney app on his phone (has the barcode etc. on the screen)... Can people scan into the parks with their phone like that and not the physical pass?

I'm not hip and modern with the cool kids to know.

I was just thinking,

what if they did just held people back until the exact park posted opening? Open the gates at the exact hour and as people are going in they are able to log on and get boarding passes. Those that were in front of line and got there earlier had a better chance at the boarding groups.

Of course so would those that are in the park for magic morning.

yes he can, but he can not get any fastpasses because you still need physical ticket to use the machines.

seems kind of dumb but hopefully someday they can simplify things a bit more

Or use Maxpass and go all digital. Haven’t even brought my AP card with me for months (come to think of it, I’m not even sure where it is) - and now with Apple Pay, it’s almost a wallet free experience.

I think the problem with this right now is that boarding passes are going quickly, so people would be at the mercy of how slow their line is. Stuck behind someone who needs their photo taken or has a problem? Poof, passes gone in that minute.

Plus it goes against the standard practice of letting people in before rope drop.

I wish there was a way to mark on an AP if the owner is 21+...

I hate carrying a wallet, but have to when I’d like to enjoy a Fuzzy Tauntaun or visit the coffee stand just before the bridge to Bob & Bob’s Pixar Pier for a little spiked caffeine.

For the same reason they open the gates early on any other day before the whole RoTR opening. To alleviate crowding in the esplande, to remove the bottleneck of the turnstyles at opening, to reduce the security issues of large masses of people near the security boundaries.

Putting people on main street has many advantages to managing a large backlog of people.

Your scenario only hightens the 'race' so to speak. And people will continue to keep escalating what they do to try to be first. This 'controlled opening' diffuses that pressure.

Now I’m offended because they never card me - but then again I’ve been drinking since Reagan’s first term. I only still (reluctantly) carry my wallet because I don’t yet have confidence in every register handling Apple Pay - I’ve been mid-transaction and gotten the panicked look from the cast member. Someday....

Someday you will be so old that you will wish they did card you.

Sigh, sometimes I forget time moves in only one direction...

The boarding passes would not be gone in a matter of minutes if Disney only lets people in beginning when the park officially opens. When we did ROTR in WDW 5 days after it opened last month, the boarding pass system was operating and as soon as someone got past the turnstyles they could get a boarding group. I was about 10 minutes back when the "gates" opened and I still got BG #11.

That’s more or less how the first two weeks at WDW operated. Once you were in the park you could get a group, regardless of the time.

The problem was people showed up earlier and earlier every day. Operations could not continue to keep up with 3am arrivals. The groups opening at the park open time are meant to discourage super early arrivals.

Tomorrow is D day for me and my friends.

We plan on arriving at the gate at 7am... Which means we'll actually get there by 730a. We'll then spread out into the park for the 8am cell phone rush... One suspended from the top of the Matterhorn, one standing upside down on the second floor of Innoventions, and a few others in some super secret ultra fast cell service locations I am not at liberty to disclose...

That being said, what time have they been opening parking for the parks? A friend is asking, thanks!
No pressure but good luck, we're all counting on you.

Initial report- we've had two people cancel due to a death in the family, I forgot my sunglasses, and our thought to avoid the construction on Ball by taking the 5 has been thwarted as we've been sitting in the same 20 ft for the past 5 minutes on the freeway ramp.

Almost as if a billion APs are all trying to do the same thing this morning.

It's going to be tight.
