As to Pandora, It's Iger's vanity project, CEO vanity projects tend to be cancelled on a change of command in ANY industry and recall Iger was supposed to be gone this year.

And he's now had his contract extended until 2018. If you want run your p&m routine with TWDC, at least keep your facts straight.

When I said Avatar would not survive Iger's departure, At that moment in time Iger's contract had NOT been extended subsequently it was still does not change the fact that Avatar is very much a Iger vanity project based on an IP with little staying power.

The interesting thing is Disney announced a start date for SWL at DL (2017) and DID NOT announce one for WDW, draw your own conclusions.

There's a reason why Disney had to admit to a construction start date "by 2017" for Disneyland; earlier this year Disney entered into a legally binding agreement with the City of Anaheim regarding taxation for the next 45 years, and the agreement states that Disney will now begin $1.5 Billion worth of new expansion at the Disneyland Resort before the end of calendar year 2017.

They had to go on record with the 2017 date to ease the politicians and locals minds who had been following the Disneyland taxation story earlier this year as it was kind of a big story here in SoCal.

That said, all indications from Disneyland insiders and reliable rumor mills are that construction will begin even sooner than that. The Big Thunder Ranch will serve as the entry portal to Star Wars Land as it pushes into unused park territory north of the berm. The popular petting farm and BBQ restaurant and stage show in the Ranch are now closing permanently on January 11th. Permits have just been filed with the city for Disneyland to move existing backstage offices and facilities into a 160,000 square foot office park off Disneyland property. Etc., etc.

It's obvious there's a lot of land clearing that will begin this winter behind Disneyland's northern perimeter, shaded in blue.

The 2017 date was important for Disney to mention, but it's now apparent that major earth moving will begin in calendar year 2016 and that construction will be well under way by 2017. A very solid insider info source here, @GiveMeTheMusic , has mentioned that Anaheim leaders are working with a timeline that has a new 5,000 space parking structure opening for Disneyland in 2018 in advance of Star Wars Land opening in 2019.

But at WDW's DHS you have to remember they are repurposing a lot of existing theme park land for Star Wars and Toy Story Land. That slows down construction and timelines. And it appears that Toy Story Land is slated to open first, likely at a 2018-2019 timeframe. But working on land that is in the middle of existing theme park operations, literally inside an operating theme park, slows down construction timelines and makes things more difficult. See the DCA Extreme Makeover of 2008-2012 as an example of that.

I think the conspiracy theory that WDW won't end up building SWL is ridiculous. DL's plans have been set to come first for some time, and WDW's SWL is part of the DHS redo project.

Now is there any reason why all of this couldn't be sooner? Nope. Universal announced another new E ticket today (F&F for USF), which means that by the time Toy Story Land opens, they'll have built 2 more massive E tickets and a whole water park while starting on Avengers and Nintendo.

DHS appears to be heading towards a DCA-style parkwide redo. Except they haven't really announced it as such like Bob Iger did with DCA in October, 2007. That's probably because the DHS "brand" is much stronger and not as tarnished as the DCA brand name was by the mid 2000's.

But using that five year DCA program as a guide, they had a series of new rides, new shows, plus radically rebuilt aesthetics and themed facades opening in stages throughout the park from 2008 to 2011. And then they capped it all off with the debut of Cars Land in June, 2012, and it was all a smash success.

Star Wars Land at DHS seems to be taking the role that Cars Land did for DCA. It will be the big grand finale' for the remade park, but it will be the last thing to open. And it appears that the Disneyland version will open first, perhaps by 18 to 24 months.

A reminder that DCA's Little Mermaid ride opened in May, 2011 a full 18 months before the cloned version opened at Magic Kingdom in November, 2012, for example.
