Star Wars Launch Bay coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios later this year

Based on what I have seen about this so far, not a fan.

First, I like the whole concept of the celebrating Star Wars but think especially for WDW it should be a little "meatier". Personally I think it sould be a year long celebration with all parks effected, even if its just a small non to the Star Wars theme and maybe as far as themed over-lays to classic attractions like DL and their SM.

But in the same passing thought, this will also bastardize the whole SW weekends just a bit. You won't get the celebrities, but you might lose the uniqueness of the merchandise which lets face it, is a draw.

Disney, in my opinion, should have went bigger.

How long until people start complaining that this doesn't count as an attraction because it's not a ride?

Well by Disney's own internal definition if it doesn't have FP+ it is not an attraction it is a distraction. I doubt they'll have this here so we'll hold them by their terminology - 'distraction'

Just to be clear, FWIW, I don't begrudge the excitement folks feel over the new Star Wars additions. DHS is a hodge-podge of different IPs, anyway, and it's too much to ask, I guess, for TDO to try to make the park make sense. Even if Disney DIDN'T own Star Wars, a Star Wars addition to DHS wouldn't be out of character for a park that essentially has no character.

I just wish there had been something in the D23 announcements that got me excited, the way the New Fantasyland announcements in a previous D23 did. There are so many things in the Disney vault that could make wonderful attractions. One of the reasons I despise Iger is that he apparently thinks those things aren't relevant and aren't important to potential park guests. He thinks he needs a Star Wars or an Avatar to get higher attendance at the parks. He is full of it. You know, I bet the reason there is no Mary Poppins attractions at any Disney park is because the Iger suits think Poppins won't sell enough merchandise. That's what we're stuck with - people who respect only dollars. That is just sad.

I just wish I could believe SWL is going to happen at all at WDW, At DL no question about it the only question is how big will they go. More and more it seems like DL and WDW are run by two different companies both named Disney.

Really sounds like it's a blinged up version of the Thor/Captain America M&G they had at DLR. Props, costumes, M&G, and of course shopping. Hyping up both the upcoming movie, as well as driving awareness to the long term expansion.

That is serious tin foil hat wearing stuff there.

Why? - because definite plans and timelines exist for DL to the point where TWDC announced a beginning of construction date and yet with the big splashy 'announcement' for WDW no similar milestone exists even though huge portions of the park are now inactive and 'backstage' so construction could start YESTERDAY (oh and no permits pulled either) yet at DL extensive demo of current onstage areas will be required to make SWL a reality.

In short there is much evidence that SWL is coming to DL, Yet no evidence exists other than a press event saying SWL is coming to WDW.

The press release is more than enough evidence and a construction timetable is no more of a guarantee. It is also worth pointing out that just because a timeline for the WDW SL has not been released, does not mean that one does not exist.

To think that this is a "PR stunt" is, for want of a better term, just plan stupid, Alex Jones level thinking.

A bet for you dinner of your choice anywhere in Orlando the terms are in 18 months WDW will have done nothing on the SWL other than open the 'Launch Bay'
