Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I was guaranteed that an OT M&G would be more popular than a ST one...

Incidentally, MFSR has the longest line in the park. And it doesn’t have FP.

Everyone wants to ride the MF. And WDW gets a lot of one time visitors compared to something like Disneyland which gets a lot of locals. Most of those people have never been on the ride probably and just want to see what it’s like.

A better indicator of the popularity of GE and the ride would probably be in how it’s all performing over at DL. Which I haven’t heard much about lately.

Yes because it’s part of an overall experience of the ride actually putting you in the world. Not to mention lines likely actually done by James Earl Jones topping the canned one liner stuff in the M&G.

I really have to explain this?
I think the argument that the land must have OT characters is greatly overplayed. I think people didn’t like MFSR as much as RotR because it isn’t as good of a ride, and it’s that simple.

If Disney is actually looking into the possibility of changing RotR to OT then obviously there’s something they’re seeing. If it was just overplayed this wouldn’t even be a rumor.

Changing to OT characters would require more than just a few swaps. The whole pacing is very much built around Kylo Ren. His character is a quick angsty manchild and that would not work with a Vader mask on. If they do change it to OT, the attraction will be a mess and arguably worse.

I wouldn’t say the heads at Disney have the most excellent understanding of what makes an attraction popular. This is the same poor line of thought that’s resulted in zero original attractions despite the success of their last two, Everest and Soarin’.

It would be out of character for Vader to try and interrogate us for information about a Rebel base, realize we escaped and entered the bridge where he is, menacingly walk down a hallway after us igniting his lightsaber, stab his lightsaber through the ceiling of the elevator, then try to prevent us from leaving with the Force?

What?

It would be out of character for Vader to do one of those quick hunched turns, to jump down real quick into that hallway, to do the spaghetti arm, desperately aggressive demand for the info before the ceiling falls, etc. He’s a slower guy, owing to the fact that he’s in his mid-40s but also that the OT was made in a different time and that’s how his character was defined. He acts in a more controlled and collected manner. The ride pacing is far too fast for Darth Vader to fit naturally, and each of his scenes would feel rushed, in my opinion. Thankfully I doubt it’ll come to that.

You seem to favor Darth Vader over Kylo Ren rather strongly though, so perhaps the change would be worth it to you regardless of the flaws it would create. Kylo has grown on me quite a bit personally, and he has better character development than Vader, so I’m not itching for a change here.

Most importantly, RotR has been very well-received, and clearly the most successful part of SWL, so why mess with that of all things? Change MFSR or something.

They can always reprogram them to move a differently you know that right? These figures aren’t built to only move the way we see them. As for Vader being more controlled and collected, have you seen the whole sequence of the ending of Rogue One and realize how it flows perfectly into the beginning of A New Hope? On both sides of that sequence he’s full of rage cutting down rebels in RO and yelling at them to give up the plans in ANH. It wouldn’t be out of character at all for that Vader to be in the ride.

Also even if it would be a bit cheesy I’d love a “NOOOOOOO!” when the wall falls and he’s sucked into space 🤣

The timing of the scenes would remain the same, yet the movement and angst would need to be reduced, creating a poorly rushed experience. He’s no Kylo in Rogue One, nor is that the Vader people care about, nor a movie people care about. But your complete and utter hate for the sequel trilogy is powerful I guess. I’m done arguing this. Hopefully saner heads prevail and we won’t see who’s correct.

As I said earlier, I think the only real changes to the script would have to occur in the final encounter, because Vader isn’t going to let himself be punked and end up under a pile rubble. Imagine Vader force holding us and interrogating us when we hear a crash and the ceiling comes falling down, Vader stops it midair, but at the cost of releasing us. As we speed away, the ceiling gets raised up by Vader (to reset but we don’t know that) and then he gestures to the left and we hear a crash (of the rubble hitting the ground, which occurs out of sight) as we load into the escape capsule. Just before we release, we here a Noooooo! our pod shakes with a Vader tantrum and cracks appear on the glass but we still eject to safety.

How exactly would that not be in character for Vader?

??? 🤨

I’ve seen all the Disney Star Wars movies in theaters and that scene got by far the biggest reaction from the audience more than anything else. Just look at YouTube comments on that scene as well to see how wrong you are. People absolutely loved Vader there.
