Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I'm sorry but that has nothing to do with it whatsoever. There's no movie for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Space Mountain, and they're both fantastic rides. Tower of Terror is based on a decades-old TV show that was popular at the time but certainly hasn't aged well. There's no reason why an attraction inspired by a mediocre film (or no film at all) can't be a fantastic attraction in its own right.

There is no reason why it can't be. 100% correct. It won't.
Once again, what I said was the theming will be great, everything else will be a disappointment.

Anyway, it has nothing to do with SW really.

I think Osborne Lights could be permanently installed at Disney Springs and synchronized to seasonal music for two hours every night. Plus it for Christmas and New Year's holidays and give a basic show nightly.

As much as I love this idea every time I see it, I do not believe that they would place it there. I don't see them placing it anywhere that they would not be able to charge for admittance

No chance. That isn't the look they are going for there. It is all about an upscale environment. I love the Osborne Lights, but they are not a permanent fixture - either from a reliability point of view, or a visual look.

I am also very doubtful they would ever be installed at DS for the holidays. They require significant work on the structures that hold them. And while that can be done at the Studios on the backlot, it would be far less practical at DS.

Anyway, thats a chat for another thread :)

So, I know I am jumping into the discussion on page 60, but I apologize as I had been away the past few days. What immediately sticks out to me are these two questions ( that I am sure one of our forum experts knows the answer too o_O )

1) LMA, will that area remain? In the WDWMAGIC photo of potential locations for the two new lands, neither goes near that whole area. What becomes of that?

2) and can someone give me a clear rational as to why they will keep this park open during the massive construction? It makes no sense. Basically, you will come into the park, walk down the main boulevard, take a right to go to ToT and RnRC, hit Fantastic, and that's it...Why not close it and use the that time to complete the project without worrying about putting up construction walls... I know someone is going to say " Well, if someone chooses to pay the admission price, then it's on them", and I get that. But this isn't just a small expansion. This is taking what I estimate to be almost 60% of the current park away and leaving 40% of what some had already considered a half day park to begin with.

Thanks!!

1) LMA's fate is not long for this world. It will go at some point, just read unsure of te exact timing.

As for 2, if you close the park it also becomes a case of "out of site out of mind". At lest with it open people will see work going on and it will get them interested to return in the future. Remember that average guest doesn't follow these sorts of projects like we do. Closing it would also make it hard to convince people to continue spending the same amount of time at WDW as they did when there were four parks. Doesn't matter that the park is half day.

Plus if it is anything like reopening closed restaurants it is a pain in the butt to reopen something that has been closed for an extended amount of time. So it is cheaper for them to keep it open and operating as they will still break even on the park during the process.

While I see your point on #2 keep in mind they are going to try to do things to keep this park more relevant during construction, they did announce updates to Star Tours, a new launch bay, a new fireworks show, updated jedi training and more star wars meet and greets during construction. Also the new Toy Story land should be close to complete before construction even starts on the rest of the park

would think the MF ride would be a perfect Kuka ride, either the centrifuge-type(M:S) or a tracked combo ride(HP:FJ)... that would put you 'in the ride' and 'be customizable'

The customizable aspect the of Millenium Falcon ride makes me think of Sum of All Thrills (which uses Kuka). Just think of that ride but with the MF cockpit instead. I think it could work quite well. The press release also says it give you "the ability to take the controls". None of that sounds like a retro-fitting of Star Tours. The ride vehicle is not at all like the Falcon and I'm not sure it could be dressed to appear that way. I guess they could completely drop Star Tours, but I think that would be a waste. However this language: "These authentic lands will have two signature attractions", does worry me. It sounds like only 2 attractions will be in that land. If it said "two NEW signature attractions", then I'd feel better about Star Tours future.

As for Star Tours, I think it will be updated with every new Star Wars movie. or at least the numbered Episodes. And updating it seems to be rather easy. And because it seems like Star Wars movies will be made from here to eternity, an easy way to generate some up to date publicity in park is to keep adding to Star Tours. I think it would be very unwise to drop Star Tours.

But more on the Millennium Falcon ride, I think a Mission: Space mixed with Sum of Thrills approach could be smart. If you think about M:S there are four people in that cockpit, the usual amount we see in the Falcon. Also on M:S each person has a role to fulfill. It's a very basic push the button thing (that doesn't matter at all), but imagine if on the MF ride each guest had a choice of buttons to push and they effected the course of the ride. It could amount to the choice of which scene is next or it could be random too. One of the signature aspects of the Falcon is the hyperdrive not working. Imagine being told to "Punch it", only to find out it didn't work just like the films forcing a different scene to take place. I think the best way to make you feel like you are on the Falcon is to put you in that cockpit. And with the Kuka tech I think that's the best way to do it. The video portion of the ride would be on a screen just outside of the cockpit, sort of like the Simpsons ride. And, if Disney can do it, having Harrison Ford as Commander Solo guide your mission (like Gary Sinise in M:S) would really make it special.

Universal's exclusivity agreement with KUKA expires in less than 2 years, doesn't it?

You don't think a Star Wars restaurant would be more popular than the Prime Time? I do.

Disney know from the recent premium Star Wars events that there is huge demand for everything and anything Star Wars, and that is before the next round of movies hit.

I like 50s Prime Time but if re-theming then how about re-theming as the diner from EpII? It already had a 50s vibe going for it anyway.

It is pretty clear from what we have seen recently that themed dining will be huge part of Star Wars land. Be Our Guest, Trader Sams, Jock Lindsey's, Skipper Canteen - everything is going to highly themed, story-driven dining.

I would expect to see a quick service, table service, and a bar/lounge.

Backlot Express could obviously be the QSR, with the 50's/Hollywood and Vine row becoming the table service.
is MAMA Melrose's really staying at it is?

Actually, they already are combined. They're connected by a shared restroom facility. Relocate the toilets and it could combine into one large space.

The backstage kitchen is shared, right? With limited Hollywood and Vine items prepared within guests view behind the buffet?
I still find this fact surprising (the shared kitchen). Because for me.. the food for Prime Time is thousand times than the generic "hospital" style food at Hollywood and Vine.
