Plus if it is anything like reopening closed restaurants it is a pain in the butt to reopen something that has been closed for an extended amount of time. So it is cheaper for them to keep it open and operating as they will still break even on the park during the process.

And, closing the park would mean laying off a lot of workers which would be bad PR, and then you have the problem of hiring new ones.

In regards to the Cantina there is no reason they can't replicate the one from Mos Eisley. We know they won't from the concept art, but there is an easy solve to creating any establishments from any of the films. All they have to do is say that the designer/creator/owner of the original moved to this new planet and started a new establishment or even vice versa. The new planet idea is actually brilliant for that reason. Because it's a "remote trading port", they can say any character from any time period has been on this planet.

If they wanted to close the park, they could just relocate the staff for 6 months. Its not like they don't have other parks.

I doubt the other parks could absorb that many employees. A few attractions worth, yes, but not a whole parks worth. Not to mention, having the park closed wouldn't speed up construction that much, we would still be looking at 2 1/2 to 3 years minimum. Avatar is totally outside of guest areas with plenty of backstage access and isolated enough that they can work during the day and it's still going to take them over 3 years to build.

You been waiting 37 years for a Star War Land, but you are not a Star Wars Fan. I think you are just looking for anything to say the Disney is bad and Universal is good.
I saw Star Wars IV in the theater at least 7 times in 1977. I was 14. I have seen all the subsequent films in the theater one time each. The only piece of SW merch I have ever bought was the soundtrack to the first one on vinyl back in '77. I am not a big Star Wars fan. I am familiar with the IP. And I haven't actually been waiting for a SWL, Star Tours met my needs perfectly. But I still find it odd that there are millions of fans in love with the IP and to please them they build something not one of them has asked for.

I saw Star Wars 6 times in the theaters in 1977, and each of the others more then once. I had tons of Star Wars merch when I was young and still have a good bit today. Oh, and I a little wood working project going on at the moment. :)

As for 2, if you close the park it also becomes a case of "out of site out of mind". At lest with it open people will see work going on and it will get them interested to return in the future. Remember that average guest doesn't follow these sorts of projects like we do. Closing it would also make it hard to convince people to continue spending the same amount of time at WDW as they did when there were four parks. Doesn't matter that the park is half day.

I agree with you on this. I just talked with a big fan of Avatar and she did not know that Disney was building Pandora in Animal Kingdom.

OK, which would you rather visit? Mos Eisley Spaceport with the Cantina from the first movie and the rides promise? Or Generic Star Wars Spaceport with a Cantina similar to the one in the first movie and the rides promised?

People only like the Mos Eisley Cantina because of the characters seen and the music (which is probably the most notable part of the location). Excluding the bar, it is almost entirely a bunch of blank walls. It would be a lousy place to walk through and explore because around every corner would just be more blank walls.

I am actually OK with the idea of a new plant, as long as it has the Star Wars flavor, it works for me. Star Wars visits so many different locations, none of them is really iconic to me, maybe with the exception of the inside of the Falcon. A cantina on another planet can have just as much of a Star Wars feel as the one in Mos Eisley. Also, if you try to build an accurate Mos Eisley, you open a cane of worms because which do you use, the original or the enhanced version?

Who wants to "explore" I want to sit in the booth Han sat in and drink listening that those aliens play the bong.

And a lot of Star Wars locations work because they are huge sweeping vistas. Coruscant is a cool planet, but trying to represent any one small part of it in a theme park would be that interesting.
