Oh really? Now I'm curious why they changed this? (And anything else noteworthy?)

Because after very extensive market research and test groups, the new position of the X-Wing tested 12.29 percent higher than the original position, thus leading to a direct directive to the imagineers to alter the existing location to better serve the guest attitude towards the land while only sacrificing 5.27 percent land development offset costs. Thus moving the X-Wing's location ended up saving The Walt Disney Company a total of -0.52 dollars in construction cost and research and development...

Also because there's no Rivers of America in DHS so they didn't have to work around that. ;)
Essentially Disney had to make a rectangle fit into a square hole for DHS.

And painting the X-wing red/white instead of blue would have raised guest satisfaction at least 31%.
