There is a middle ground between film score and street sounds: in-world music. This is a bustling output, we know there's a Cantina with a band and another with a DJ.

If I was making predictions I'd say the orchestral music will be saved for the attractions and marketing. Part of GE will get an atmospheric soundtrack (bustling outpost type sounds, ships flying around, droids beeping, mechanics churning, etc.) while other parts will have in-world music (DJ, band) piped in.

I was thinking the same thing.
In Star Wars, there will be many opportunities to mix in music with street sounds.
It could be used as though it's emanating from the cantina, it could even be used as though it's coming from radios in the marketplace.

I really miss avatar music in pandora. I understand the “total immersion, no music in real life, no music in avatarland” thought, but music really helps me feel the land better. Just imagine hogsmeade without the HP music or SW:GE without that score. Its the same thing where the FOP ride really takes off when the music kicks in. Just mo ofcourse.

Or go to Satu'li Canteen.

I guess it also has to do with me being an extreme movie soundtrack fan in general. Do agree Pandora works wonderful the way they did it. If it were up to me I’d have my whole life be underscored :hilarious:.

Curious what they’ll do with SW:GE!

James Horner was gong to write music for Pandora but died tragically in a plane crash.

Iger's comments today regarding SWGE:
Well, on the Star Wars Lands, these are the biggest lands that we've ever built. And in both cases, not only are they big in size and scale, they are huge in ambition in terms of both the experience that we aim to create, meaning the immersive experience, as well as the specific experiences people will have and the attractions namely in both cases too, very, very innovative and we believe compelling and exciting e-ticket attractions. And so, we think that they're going to have a major impact. And Disneyland -- clearly, it's the biggest thing that we've ever done at Disneyland since it opened in 1955. And we think it's going to drive huge increase in demand and we're going to have some interesting challenges on our hands to manage that demand, but that's a good problem to have.
And then in Florida, we have four parks, Star Wars Land there is going into the Studios Park -- the Hollywood Studios Park, where we opened Toy Story Land not that long ago. And we've aimed to actually grow the attendance to that park, which has lagged a bit over the last number of years, because we haven't invested anything that is even this close to size or scale or of compelling nature of it. So we think in both cases, they will have a dramatic impact positively on both businesses.

A lot of the incidental music in the main trilogy is less recognizable and would be perfect background music to set the mood of Star Wars without being in-your-face. For e.g.,

A Star Wars atmosphere without Williams would be really lacking IMO. People want to be in a Star Wars movie, so non-diagetic music is perfectly acceptable as long as it just borrows cues from atmospheric or transition scenes. I think new arrangements of the tracks above would be perfect.

I agree, especially with the Jawa / wandering around Mos Eisley music. The Ewok theme, less so. Maybe at Christmas time - it just feels so Home Alone to me!

I agree for the latter portion of it (when it really ramps up and starts to sound Christmasy). I just find the opening melody to that track (the first two minutes) is what I always imagine when I think about wandering through a Star Wars themed environment, for some reason.
