Photo update as of Tuesday, September 26. A ground view of just how massive this building is. Viewed on the approach to the Hollywood Studios parking kiosk.

Very nice pictures, thanks. Just out of curiosity though, what time of the day were those pictures taken. I ask because I was not able to spot one single human being in any of those pictures. Was it a weekend, early in the AM or later in the PM. Not much going to get accomplished without someone to put all that stuff together. :)

Probably early in the day, there aren't a lot of people in the park, but there are a bunch lining Hollywood Boulevard, probably waiting for the March of the First Order. Not sure what day of the week.

In the first image where dirt is being shipped across World Drive, is it just me or does the dirt look like it is being flattened on top of that small pond? What's the big idea here?

It strikes me as odd that the dirt from SWL was never loaded into trucks and transported somewhere else. I remember seeing images of the conveyor belt a while ago but I figured Disney would load it onto trucks once it was across World Drive. Now I'm beginning to think they're filling in that pond, which sits on a nice chunk of undeveloped land where the only other development is Blizzard Beach. I'm purely speculating here, but was anyone given information regarding this? I have a feeling this might be for the new firework launch pad but I thought that had been completed. @marni1971, @WDW1974

I suspect the pond is Irma related.

You have it backwards. The dirt is being excavated from the other side of World Drive to form a new storm water retention pond. The conveyor is them bringing the dirt over to where the new parking area is being built. That area was mostly wetlands so it's being used to fill in and build up that area.

The one area [which i will assume is one of the rides] appears to have 4 "discs". Now we know one of the rides is a simulator in SW:GE. Would that be the simulator ride because it doesn't appear that whatever is within those "discs" is going to be moving? Given the circular nature of them and how ruggedly they appear to be constructed, is this going to be another centrifuge simulator? I hate to be that guy, but we know how well M:S has been received over time. Personally, i would not like that at all. In fact, wouldn't that give them 2 simulators for star wars?

Allow me...

The disks are simple turntables that will move Millennium Falcon cockpits into position for loading. Then the disks turn to move your cockpit along its slow circular path until it comes to the unload position. The turning has nothing to do with the simulation of movement. The cockpits have traditional simulator bases, they just happen to be built upon a turning foundation.

Think like 8 Star Tours ships all parked on the Carousel of Progress looking toward the center. That's one disk, then multiply that by 4 disks. (Although I really don't know how many cockpits per disk they are planning.)

And yes, that would make 2 Star Wars simulators, but insiders indicate that Star Tours will close soon.

Indeed: Entering, there will be 2 hallways each have 2 branches leading to the 4 turntables. Each turntable will have 7 simulation pods - you enter at position #1 and exit at position #7. You should never be able to see any other group getting on or off the ride... only your group got on the MF. There are 6 people per simulation pod, likely to be one driver and 5 gunners... maybe.

Does the DL version have four carousels too? I recall only seeing two in the last pics I saw.

They both have 4

I guess we should have stickied this explanation ;)

Oh so they’re dredging out a new retention pond on the side opposite Studios? Gotcha, that makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying!
