Eh if we are really lookin to make the environment look realistic then rock work is almost unavoidable....at least you have Toy Story Land which is a backyard full of tall grass!

I think Jim hills information was primarily based off the first version of Star Wars land that imagineers drew up in 2013. The one based off the original movies.

The only good ones.

Here's the thing about the upcoming SW movies: how do we know they'll be any better than the prequels? The main weakness of those were the utterly lackluster new characters. NONE of them were the equal of Luke Skywalker, much less Han Solo. The most memorable new character of those films was freaking horrible Jar Jar Binks.

Perhaps people are letting nostalgia get the better of them. I think the first new SW film will do very well - fueled by nostalgia alone. But if it's underwhelming as a film, then Iger will have built a whole new land based on a depleted franchise. Not even Marvel is a license to print money - as the recent Fantastic Four flop proved. Just sayin'.

There's a whole generation that grew up on the prequels and Clone Wars that's fond of them and is growing bitter from being swept under the rug. Sorry you had to be reminded of that.

As for Fantastic Four, it was always gonna fail. Marvel cut off all support to the Fantastic Four as a brand specifically to choke Fox and try and force their hand in another deal and Fox just crapped it out to try and keep the rights. And really, Marvel itself isn't the unstoppable brand, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is.

Maybe they were swept under the rug because they sucked?

Concept art is gorgeous...this along with Avatar will wow, immerse and hopefully the rides will thrill.

People say Disney is unaffected by Universal...wrong. This is Disney upping their game, and it looks stunning. Anyone thinking Uni will be quaking in their boots will, I reckon, also be very wrong...they will respond.

Exciting times for Theme park lovers in Orlando!

Clone wars and the subsequent series were good.. the movies? not so much.

If anything, I am betting that DHS gets a "grander" version - the rides will likely be nearly identical but the exterior will likely be more impressive at WDW. Even at roughly the same size, it will likely feel "bigger" at WDW, like everything else does because they aren't going to have nearly as many sight restrictions, etc.

I've been thinking about that, and I'd have to disagree. 14 acres is 14 acres, whether its in California or Florida or North Dakota.

Interestingly, the map of Star Wars Land that Miceage posted in their update last Tuesday measures out to be exactly 14 acres. Four days before the Bob's began throwing around the phrase "14 acres" in the Anaheim Convention Center, Miceage puts a Google Earth map up that shows exactly 14 acres. Hmm...

The entrance would be from the south, where the massive Festival Arena shade structure is (not the Wonderbra, er, Fantasyland Theater to the right). That part of the park is really nothing but dense trees that have been growing for 60 years on low hills and the berm, with the mostly unused Festival Arena just sitting there. From the east and west and north of the red shaded area there's absolutely no reason to worry about sightlines; it's just backstage warehouses and offices, and then city streets and the Santa Ana Freeway.

And really, even if the tops of Star Wars Land's rocky cliffs are visible from northern Fantasyland, what of it? This is Walt's park where as soon as he got some extra money together he plopped a 160 foot tall Swiss Matterhorn down in the middle of everything, and it looms over multiple lands and thematic storylines that are anything but Swiss. Somehow Disneyland will survive another 60 years with tall rocky cliffs on its northern flanks.

Meanwhile in DHS, there's 14 acres that fit nicely around the existing Star Tours attraction. (Although something tells me Star Tours on both coasts isn't long for this world). But there will be similar sightline issues there too, with the rocky cliffs visible from adjacent park areas. Here's what current conventional wisdom says is the 14 acre plot at DHS, give or take some parking spaces.

DHS has to worry about sightlines on its north and east flanks, instead of only the south flank at Disneyland.

Now, what may make the DHS version taller is the whole swampland thing. They can't dig down much at DHS, where at Disneyland they've been burying show buildings and sinking attractions deep into the sandy Anaheim soil since Walt opened the Submarines in 1959. Disneyland could easily dig down 30 or 40 feet to sink their show buildings lower into the ground. But they won't be able to do that at DHS, and the show buildings may look taller at DHS because of that.

But 14 acres is 14 acres, regardless of where you put it. And there's sightlines to worry about in both parks.

Surely the mere mention of the name and some vague art is enough to have the fans drooling either way?

Now. Details. Timeframe? Cost? Specifics? Attraction descriptions?

Or just enough "news" to stop the complaints?

The park certainly needs it. It doesn't need to be part of a PR hype machine.

They did give attraction descriptions

The same thing a lot of us have been saying for about six weeks now.

Star Wars. Pixar.

Thats whats going on. Thats what was announced today.

Is it going to be Pixar or just Toy Story?

Could we expect more Pixar at some stage or is Toy Story all we're likely going to get? I like the plans for Toy Story and think it adds more of the family oriented attractions that DHS has been lacking in but I was hoping that they'd use more Pixar properties and make Pixar Place a full-fledged land rather than focus only on one film. I love Toy Story but that was the only slight disappointment I had about yesterday's announcements.

Just woke up and saw the news. Haven't read through the posts yet but just had to say that I am SOOOOOO happy about this and really look forward to seeing what they come up with. I really hope they build a Cantina. I know it's a new planet but hey, I am sure their popularity after 30 years would cause them to expand and become a chain ;)

Same here. This was the first news I saw on FB before finding the Star Wars news and was kinda like: That's all? Toy Story? I am not a huge Pixar fan at all but if they were going to do something, I would think a full fledged Pixar land. But now that Star Wars is coming, I won't have a need to even go to Toy Story Land. But of course I will go check it out....the plans do look cool ;)

I know for a fact I'm a part of the minority here that doesn't like star wars..but, yep I'm THAT guy:rolleyes: I knew it was probably coming and as of right now; I'm not ecstatic but I will go into this with an open mind especially with looking at the concept art..
That's perfectly ok. When I saw the plans for Toy Story, I had the same reaction. Not a fan and think they could have used the space better. BUT if everyone gets a little something that they want, then it all works out. I keep and open mind until I see the whole thing built :)
