There not the same the emperial I and II class destroyers fell out of favor before the rise of the first order.
However you are correct the falcon is one of the only things that transcends both sets of movies. Hondo is from the animated series and is one of my favorite characters from there so thats nice but meh. Storm troopers are also not the same at all emperial troopers were recruited and pressed into service (but paid) after the clone troopers fell out. The first order appears to essentially do the child soldier route nabbing kids and brainwashing them into a soldier.
I seriously doubt the average guest knows or cares about the difference between a emperial 1 and 2 star destroyer and the ones in the ST, or the differences in storm troopers. They're close enough for the casual fan.

This thread is about Star Wars Land in DHS. There's already been too much rehashing of the franchise in its video forms.

There's a thread for this...

I've been sitting on the sidelines for a little bit about this, since I wanted to decide how I really felt about the land. I am not a Star Wars fan, and I have a well documented hatred for screen rides. Today I went back to DHS for a little bit and caught myself looking longingly at SWGE from SDD. I decided that I liked it (SWGE) a lot. The ride is not all that great, but I did not get sick at all. It was about what I expected and maybe a little bit better. I enjoyed pushing the buttons, and I had one ride that was amazing. Interestingly enough, that was a ride where the pilots were awful (that's being kind), but everyone enjoyed it. We were laughing and just enjoying the moment. The show in Savi's Workshop was better than I thought it would be, but it did feel a little rushed to me. I could sit here and nitpick the hits and the misses, and everything was pretty overpriced - I spent far too many credits. It's still Disney, so that's to be expected. If I was a Star Wars fan, I think I would have gone nuts for it.

It literally features places from the movie. Like flos. Its not successful because it taps into route 66...its successful because it is places we know and we can connect to from the film.

To your other point i agree the main attraction isnt open and that could stiffle demand BUT i don't think your average guest is that synced into that info. I dont buy into the (everyone is waiting theory) in DL i think it was clearly a mistake to keep APs out and i think disney has sacrificed alot of land coverage by opening the lands early. When rotr opens i dont think they will get all of the same press all over again....even with a great ride it wint fix the fundamentsl problems with the land as follows.

1. A place you know nothing about that has zero familiarity with the movies.
2. A lack of character that you would expect from a star wars area if you have seem any of the movies. (No droids no aliens etc)
3. A legitimately shopping centric design that disney made no attempt to mask.
4. Disney tried to make places you might somewaht regonize due to art styles etc but you cant so its this wierd middle ground of why is it it like this?
5. So heavily and irreversibly tieing it to new movies making it impossible to see orginal characters etc without making no sense at all.
6. Star wars land is legitimately the NFL mermaid que of lands....yeah it looks gorgeous but where the ____ is the substance?

End rant.

God, I HATE that queue. And there are no shortcuts without really moving stuff.

I really don't think this is an issue at all. As many mentioned, the original Star Tours was popular and didn't feature familiar characters or locales. It really boils down to not enough to do and no entertainment. Throw in droids and aliens and a few more ad hoc streetmosphere shows, along with RotR, and I bet you have a land that's a resounding success.

The original Star Tours was the first big budget simulator ride. It was the first simulator in the US, the first Star Wars ride. It had TONS of firsts. SWGE has none of that.

*interesting fact... not one new character cracks the top 5 in the all time Star Wars characters list on the internet. I mean I’m sure there has to be one list out there but the majority, no new character cracks top 5. Not Rey, not Ren, and not the other two guys...

"the other two guys" - all the that needs to be said about the public's emotional connection to New Star Wars.

. Personally, I'm excited to experience an original story that fills in the gaps of, and sets up future installments of, the main saga..

I experienced no story of any kind besides some guy named Hondo wants me to go to someplace that's dark and hard to see to get a container of something. Oh, and somebody name Oga runs a bar and some dude named Savi sells lightsabers (because apparently Jedis now buy their light sabers in stores).

No gaps were filled. Much boredom ensued.

Based off majority opinion of those who have now visited, I have not, it seems amidst the excitement of that day in 2015, the concern in post #27 has been answered. I hope the seemingly obvious and some “plus it” changes will occur soon
Talk about to big to fail...shew-wee

Anecdotal but I remember reading that when Star Tours first opened it was so popular the park was open 60 hours straight.

No it was part of a promotion. Don’t put the cart before the horse.

Remember when st opened, it was not only the first ride of its kind... but also the first time there was a crossover between a big external IP and Disney in the theme parks. And the very first Star Wars attraction anywhere.

maenwhile, 30 years later, they're still milking a 3d simulator that went out of style in the mid 90's.. granted it's a cute little ride, but if it were anywhere but disney, it would've been decommissioned 15 years ago due to no one riding it.

I saw SW:GE at Disneyland and will soon experience it in Florida. If you want to read a "mixed view" report of the place, I give a detailed account here. (I'm a long time Imagineering fan- and I found the place to be a mix of great, good, average, and sorely lacking.)

Really nice take.
You seem much like me as far as your love for Disney's Imagineering.
I too have little personal interest vested in Star Wars, though I did come to enjoy it through my son's as I watched the movies with them as they grew up.

We call that Body Wars :D

Star Tours through it's refresh kept things current and still fits the Disney 'need' of being 'exciting' but still yet accessible to nearly everyone in terms of physical abilities/tolerances.

It's certainly not "lets go there to ride that.." but certainly a steady back carrying the load in the parks.

Agree. I like the randomizer they've added with it and the new locales are great, well, besides that horrid cgi on the batuu landing site at the end.
