Sorry about the bickering - for my part...

But did you seriously ask about parking?? It’s gonna be the same as any other day...not that many people drive to the parks
Lol, except when lots get shut down for Food & Wine and Easter Day in the past, you ever seen peak F&W parking lots? it's a mess. It's not a dumb question. I drive to the parks.

I love I get shamed for asking a legitimate question in a thread about opening day. I guess back to your bickering about nothing has to do with this thread.

I assume you're questioning whether the parking lot filled completely today at any stage? I'm not there but think if it had we'd have heard about it, so I'm 95% certain the parking lot never shut.

Ok...wasn’t going for “shame”...Just a tad strange to me. No problem.

Well that’s kinda what I meant...when is the last time they had a parking lot fill? Not that many people drive to the parks with internal transport and offsite shuttle service

Not everyone knows that, seems a bit rude of you the way you responded. Seemed a reasonable question to me

1. Then those are bad decisions
2. Have you been to it?...I’m having a hard keeping straight who have seen the thing and who just defend it In abstract. We got a lot of both.
3. Again...bad decisions and not an excuse. We shouldn’t stay quiet to service them
4. Geez...how so? And you can’t count midway as “new development”. 10 years old.

1. Completely agree.
2. Have not. Going by what I have seen so far from others. Obviously my opinions could change once I go.
3. Agree. But I don't think some of the decisions are bad that you think are bad.
4. Love the kinetics, the lighting at night, Slinky Dog is a lot of fun. Could it be better? Sure. But what's there is good fun.

We wait to declare “success”
Until we see how it looks for a week? Say like the 3rd week of september...then we watch a week when the crowds pick up - day mid October - and see how it looks.

Honestly I think we should wait a year to declare success or failure. A lot of my reactions today are in reaction to that extreme. As you said earlier, it's the long term that matters. Wait until the second ride is open, the hype machine is done, and see what the true impact of the land is. Let's see DHSs attendance for 2019 compared to 2018, and then 2020.

That's been my beef with the DLR critics - it's too early to declare failure. It's also too early to declare success. Let's wait and see.

We were just talking about these DHS wait times in the Disneyland Star Wars thread, but they might be of interest to some folks here.

At 4:30pm Eastern Daylight time on Day 1, here are the current WDW App wait times for DHS and its entire roster of 7 rides...

Millennium Falcon - 105 Minutes
Slinky Dog Dash - 55 Minutes
Alien Swirling Saucers, Rock N' Roller Coaster, Midway Mania - 30 Minutes
Star Tours - 15 Minutes
Tower of Terror - 10 Minutes

We agree here...

It’s gonna take some dust to settle to know what they have. Couple caveats:

If Disneyland’s doesn’t pick up by the holidays...the die is cast

When this was announced...nervous pee excited disneyphiles (rumor board guys of a specific type) said “this is only the beginning! Phase 3! Phase 3!”...I think that’s over. That’s a combo of what they’ve built, other park issues, and where the IP is.

These land’s are now tied to 9. 9 is the ballgame with Star Wars. If that movie isn’t fantastic...then they are in trouble and fans are gonna dry up. As geeked as hardcore types can love the Mandalorian...Star Wars ultimately has to rebound on the big screen to be relevant.

On the surface...that’s not good.

But I’ll give partial pass to bad boy Dorian.

But if people aren’t showing in Orlando moving forward ...that eliminates 1 of the 2 defender stances about Disneyland.

And locals wouldn’t be driving to Hollywood Studios on the opening day of GE?
Enough to fill the parking lot on opening day...which locals avoid to stay away from the the “damn tourists” that fund the whole region?

I think you can answer that.

Locals account for 10% of the crowd...typically.

But hurricane closures are still two or three days away. I would think that the approaching Cat 3 Hurricane that will likely close the parks early on Sunday, then closed entirely on Labor Day, would have most folks rushing to the parks heading in to a holiday weekend. By Saturday the crowds will drain away, at least the locals, but here on Thursday it shouldn't be a major factor yet.

Currently at the Magic Kingdom, Seven Dwarves Mine Train has a 70 minute wait and Peter Pan is 65 minutes. At Animal Kingdom the Flight of Passage ride has a 70 minute wait, (even though no child has ever shown up at my front door on Halloween dressed as a blue alien but I get a million Chewies and Leia's and Darth Vader's every October 31st).

So there are people at WDW theme parks today. They just aren't all at DHS waiting in a four hour line for the Falcon.
