Is Pandora really coming along that slowly though? Construction started in January 2014 and will be finished ‘sometime’ in 2017. While ‘sometime’ covers a lot of time, it isn’t far off from CarsLand (July 2009 to June 2012). SWL at Disneyland started April 2016 and insiders are reporting a late 2018-early 2019 completion date. It seems like most major Disney projects take 3-years, give or take a few months.

If WDW moved this fast on Avatarland it would've been done 2 years ago.

Agreed. What's also interesting is the widening amount of time between the construction schedules of Disneyland and DHS. At this point, the Disneyland version of Star Wars Land will likely open at least six months before the DHS version. But at the current slow pace they are going at DHS getting the land ready, it might stretch to 9 months or more.

Disneyland's Star Wars Land will clearly be opening first, ahead of WDW's version. I wonder how the PR folks will play that on both coasts?

There will be some stat, something somewhere like "a third more mosaic pieces on this wall were needed for the Florida version" that they will use to justify saying, "This year, SWL is coming to WDW, and it's even bigger and more spectacular than the first one!"

Can I point out this shot from the new Rogue One preview? Nice canopies, droopy wires, and wall art, eh? ;)

I believe the Disneyland one will be bigger and more spectacular than the late WDW one. When marketing advertises SWL, it will be for the east coast and no mention of the existing Disneyland version. They will probably tie to Pandora's opening at DAK saying something stupid like there are more worlds to explore at Walt Disney WORLD!

I'm sorry but all indication says they'll be nearly identical.

I think the lands will be pretty similar. However, I think the build up will be better at Disneyland. Particularly, with the plans I read for the Critter Country path. I also think that SWL at Disneyland may feel more immersive due to the berm seperating It from the rest of the park.

I am under the assumption that the land was particularly designed to fit into the Disneyland real estate, and it's essentially just being copied and pasted in at Hollywood Studios.

If there is a way for TDO to go cheap they will. I bet DL will have more roaming droids, more force window effects and more cast members.
Except that it's not their call. This is coming from up high. Their only veto seems to have been the cutting of the third ride. For once I can give a hearty thanks to Iger for something.

Before anyone says Avatar, that'll be good because of James Cameron. He's probably even worse than J.K. Rowling when it comes to perfection. His ego wouldn't let that land be cheap and suck even though the $1 Billion price tag is a bit outrageous.

That's probably true. But they re not copying and pasting the berm or how you will enter the land.

Remember that there's more to the berm construction than SW Land. They are also re-routing the DLRR and constructing a massive new marina and making other infrastructure improvements for Fantasmic's back of house as part of the berm project.

Pandora might not make that 2017 date according to some.
