Your system would most definitely not create a "reasonable wait."

First, the park's growth has been over 3 million in the past decade. Parks are hitting the tipping point more and more so when lines back up more and more so simply because there's more people in the park than the capacity of the attractions can handle. A free-for-all solves nothing but makes everyone equally miserable.

Secondly, everyone will learn that rope drop is the only way to get a short line to the most coveted attractions, and so everyone who no longer has FP options for later in the day will show up for rope drop. Just look at what happens to FoP now. That's what will happen to the MK without FPs. The parks will be packed right at opening.
I would put a tighter limit on park capacity and build more attractions. Because in my dream scenario "decent profits" are enough. The park would be awesome. Before APs and Fast Passes, getting up early was the only way to get on popular rides quickly. Everyone knew that. Most people still showed up late-morning to a crowded park, because Joe Average Vacationer wants to sleep in and Just Doesn't Get It and Never Will.

It's nice to dream. I know it'll never be the way it was. This is today's Disney. Welcome to The Borg. :D

Amen. Decades ago Disneyland exceeded expectations in practically every aspect of its operations. Guest experience at a Disney theme park in the 70s and 80s was unparalleled - every detail, from the quality of the attractions to calibre of the cast members, was exceptional. Now their mentality seems to be let's cram in as many customers as possible at the highest prices they can charge while paying their front line employees as little as they can. Guest experience be damned.

A free-for-all means that people are in queues and not in walkways. People either wait 30-45 minutes for most rides, keeping them out of the rest of the park, or they decide to grab a meal or shop. With the mentioned "No-AP system," you also wouldn't see the number of people you're referencing. I'm pretty sure if there wouldn't be college kids going 12 times a month if they were paying a ticket price each time. Taking away APs and Fastpass means lower number of guests, accurate wait times not inflated by FP, and much more open walkways and shops. From a guest experience, this would make me anything but miserable.

And Disney has always had crowds and rope drop benefits. No matter how crowded it gets during the day, even before FP, rope drop remained the best option. People aren't suddenly want to get to the park at 7 am because FP went away. Especially not the casual AP visitor.

FP is a standby alternative via reservation. Single rider is totally type of option that has all kinds of caveats and signage usually explaining this. It’s why almost always you access thru the exit and not with the rest of guests in line. I’m not sure if you are just not getting that or you are conveniently forgetting it for the sake of your argument.

I always assumed they did that for SR because its just a lot less of them. If they did that with FP it would be a mess.

If no Refresher in the queue, will Disney sell Star Wars branded Depends?

You seem resentful of Fastpass. I still maintain that if WDI is going to spend substantial time and $$$ building lavish detail-heavy queues that are as amazing as the on-ride portion, all guests riding the attraction should be able to experience them.

FOP is really one of few examples where this doesn’t happen and it’s surprising given the mandate and dedication to making Pandora seems so real.

Even HP Forbidden Journey routes Express guests through the queue — without it, you miss 1/3 the experience.

Single Rider lines are and should be the exception to this. I am totally fine and understanding that I’m taking a shortcut to an empty seat whenever I go that route and potentially missing out on some cool stuff.
When are the MagicBands for FP+ making their way to DLR??

Never, I'd imagine. They'll never make their way to Paris or Tokyo or Hong Kong or Shanghai either. There simply isn't enough Disney-owned hotel rooms to get them to pencil out anywhere else. And from what we've learned over the last few years, it never really penciled out at WDW either and led to the sudden demise of several top Disney execs who approved it all and thought it would work great, namely Jay Rasulo and Tom Staggs.

Disneyland is doing all it needs to do for tourists and locals alike with the Disneyland App on everyone's phones.

If MagicBands and FP+ had worked and done what it was supposed to at WDW, it would have shown up four years ago in Anaheim and Paris and Hong Kong, and would have been designed into the park from day one for Shanghai.

MagicBands are a WDW one-off, and it will be interesting to see if they even exist at WDW 7 or 8 years from now. My bet would be that they go away by 2025, and WDW moves to an App-based system like everyone else.
