Speaking of rough childhoods that lead to the dark side, what is Kylo Ren's ecuse? He likely had a good childhood, raised by two parents who loved him. Why did he turn out to be such a whiny, baby prone to temper tantrums in his 20s?
He's a terrible villain.

Kylo Ren resonates with parents that have a child like that. Be thankful if your children don't end up that way.

My oldest had a great childhood, raised by two parents that loved him, played sports and had whatever he wanted, yet he turned to the dark side. It was next to impossible to get him to finish his senior year but we did it. People have free agency to choose right from wrong. He decided that basic house hold rules are bad because his "friends" tell him that. Eventually they convince him that everything we taught him is a lie. They take away all power you have when they don't care what the consequences of their actions are. Your child may decide to drop out of high school and won't go to counseling. Pretty soon you got the school district dragging you into court. It would put a huge strain on your married relationship. You pray for the day they turn 18 so you can get some power back.

Therefore you get a failure to launch situation where they do nothing but take and never contribute to the family. The ultimate decision is to part ways where they get nothing but a backpack and you say good luck and lock the door. However there is that fear of never seeing your child again that is heartbreaking. We keep thinking there is good in him so we haven't used that nuclear option yet even though we've had years of being stabbed in the gut with a "lightsaber". If we can get him signed up for classes and in his own apartment that will be a step in the right direction. There is always hope.

I really hope your kids don't end up that way. It's a very real possibility.

He's a Palpatine, not a Vader. Even as a kid, Palpatine was messing with the Dark Side, and he grew up as a rich kid on Naboo (Ben as the son of war heroes). Then he meets Plageuis (Snoke in Ben's case) and it all goes downhill.

That's the twist they're going for: we thought it was a Vader/ Palpatine situation, but really it was a Palpatine/ Plageuis one. You may not care for it, but I think it's fantastic.

Impressive. Every word in that sentence was wrong.

It's appeal has always been to predominantly young males.
I don't understand why you attach a "shouldn't" to that.
If a series of movies had appealed to a predominantly female audience, would you believe that it shouldn't?
Would you believe the franchise should be reimagined to bring in males?
Many a good product, from rock bands, to automobiles, to beer have been ruined by the intent of reinventing those things for broader mass appeal.

I'm sorry I just can't, beer got ruined because a company like Anheuser Busch wanted to appeal to women? Really?

We can bet there was a rough childhood that led him to his evil ways.

Maybe his twin father wasn't caring or affectionate enough. Maybe being raised by the very person you'll become is too much for anyone to take.

Nahhhh... I'm going to take a wild guess and say it was
the moment he witnessed his dad's decapitation by a Jedi that did him in!
:D

Exactly. It's your theory. You have none.
It's an observation, not a theory. Ben and Palpatine have a similar origin story; Ben and Vader do not. My initial post was in response to Constance asking about Ben going bad, pointing out that it's Palp all over again.

It got ruined because the product was reimagined for mass appeal.
Creating a bland, nondescript product that one wouldn't be able to identify outside of the can.

Nice try, but Bud is not being sold any less because they tried to appeal to women. In fact its being sold more because they took most if not all of those commercials aimed just at men off TV.

Your thinking of the wrong Django.

Only one Django matters:

That’s really really close to my own ranking.

By the way, and this isn’t really a spoiler since it’s just a throw away line: Did anyone catch the “Black Spire” name drop? I hope Episode IX includes a sequence where Rey must travel to Batuu to learn the ways of vlogging, and livestream herself standing in a 5-hour line while begging her viewers to smash that subscribe button lest the First Order cut off her ad revenue.
Didn't catch it personally but I did hear that it was in the movie. Would love if Batuu was in a movie tbh as long as it was exclusively filmed at Disneyland (not DHS, even though that makes more sense, simply because it's too small).

That’s true. It works for the right story but gets old. I like movies with a nice balance.
I like fun, enjoyable, humorous movies and Solo checked off pretty much every box for me in that regard. I think that's why I enjoyed it so much. Rogue One has a better ending (c'mon.. Vader..) and Solo is more of a better movie overall, in my personal opinion.

I liked Solo very much.
The only thing I didn't like was the casting choice of Han.
I don't know if i could see him as Indiana Jones. I'm still hoping for Chris Pine as Indiana Jones.

Chris Pine as Green Lantern would be amazing too but it would screw up Wonder Woman.
