Darth Maul was laughable and trying WAY too hard to be cool. He had no character and just had an interesting look. Kylo at least is a compelling character who is unpredictable and looking to prove himself, no matter what it takes. Kylo is the one thing I really enjoy about the new trilogy.

Maul had the cutest outfit.

No, really, super cool.

So, I was initially misled yesterday to believe JF was doing a new SW series of films, but it turns out, it will be a TV series specifically designed for Disney's streaming service instead.

But yeah, the straight white male backlash is still a thing.

There is a new series of Star Wars films I believe in the works from the guys who created Game of Thrones. I don't know if they're straight but they are male and white.

I just confirmed on the internet that this isn't true.

Has anyone ever confirmed that George Lucas is okay? He always looks like this in pictures.

There are a couple new set of films under development.

Rian Johnson, writer/director of Last Jedi, will be heading up EP 10-12. This will be a continuation of the Skywalker saga.

David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, executive producers of Game of Thrones, will be heading up a new series of movies that will be separate from the Skywalker saga.

And this doesn't include any of the individual one-off films like Solo or the new TV series. So we have Star Wars in one form or another for the next decade or more.

Rian Johnson’s trilogy is not going to be part of the Skywalker saga, and will not be considered 10-12.

Yep. So chalk up at least 6 new films in trilogy fashion + an unknown number of "anthology" films like Solo + this new JF streaming service series...anyone else feeling the imminent Star Wars fatigue?

Sorry, I misspoke, you are right its not a direct part of the Skywalker saga.

But that is better than saying, Rian Johnson is getting to do a trilogy and then these other two guys are also getting to do a series but nothing to do with Rian's trilogy.

Not really... When you consider we live in an era where streaming TV series have become the predominant source of entertainment for many and people are happily binging 10+ hours of a season over a weekend and are chomping at the bit to get the next season. In comparison, once a year we're getting about 2.5 hrs of Star Wars. As a Star Wars fan, I'd totally be ok with more content to consume from that universe, especially if it's a fresh story not focused on the Skywalker saga.

I wonder if RJ's trilogy will have anything to do with the GOT guys'. I think the idea behind all this is that the SW Universe is SO LARGE they can tell trilogy-long stories that don't necessarily have to cross-contaminate each other.

Eh, to each their own I suppose.

For me, SW will always be the Skywalker saga. Anything ancillary to that is just kinda eh to me. Probably why I never got into the books.

Well that's because, up until now, it has been the Skywalker saga! I'm pretty over the story at this point and would love to see what else can be done within the universe once broken free from the Skywalkers, Jedis, clone wars, etc. So many different directions to go in. Hopefully some of the talent they're bringing in can get it right and do something interesting!

Yeah I see this as Disney killing Star Wars. While there are a lot of fans out there, there's already been a HUGE drop from The Force Awakens to The Last Jedi. $2 billion plus vs $1.3 billion. If Disney just throws movies out there, it's possible fatigue will set in sooner than later.

Fatigue of X-type movies is a myth.
  • Fatigue of Superhero Movies: Unless it's just bad (Fant4stic Four), they make over $700 million each, often cracking the billion dollar mark.
  • Fatigue of Sequels: Thor 3 - $800M; Despicable Me 3 - $1B; Guardians 2 - $830M; Fate of the Furious - $1.2B;
  • Fatigue of Live Action Remakes: BatB - $1.3B; Jungle Book - $967M
  • Fatigue of Star Wars: past 3 were each over $1B.

If they're not bad, they won't be fatiguing.

I get what you're saying, but for me it would be like having a show set in Metropolis that doesn't involve Superman. Surely there are "other" things and people that a story could be made from, but it would take a lot to get me interested.

The drop from Ep 7 to 8 is comparable to the drop from 1 to 2 and from 4 to 5.

The latest SW movie did more than the one previous it. All going past $1 billion.

You're seeing things that don't exist.

It's probably just more on a personal level.

As a filmmaker, its disheartening to see companies continue to want to play in the same sandbox over and over. Variety IS the spice of life after all.
