The land is huge... we don't know yet if Disney will have to control access to the land.. no one knows because there has never been anything quite to this level.. especially at WDW. Disney has tipped they don't think they will have to at DHS... but we'll see.

I agree. Everything is speculation at this point because this is such a unique phenomenon (the subject matter, 2 coasts, no FP).

And I wasn’t looking for that, lol. I was literally looking for info on lines for area access. And per the thread Magic gave me, I got my answer. For Pandora it was opening day, Memorial Day and in the evening as they cleared the area for EMH (but I’m not entirely sure for how many days that happened since the thread fizzled with new info).

Think for yourselfer
Simple... for many it takes away what they thought the experience would be... it’s taking away some goal they wanted. When in reality, that same thing will be available as they thought 6 or 9 months later.

But in your best veruca salt.... I want it now!

All the hype about “but guests want rides!”... ummmm has everyone somehow forgotten these are Disney parks? Where actual rides are a minority? Amazing how many people somehow forgot all of a sudden how few rides world showcase... or even dak had.

If there was nothing else to entertain people... then yes I,d agree. NFL really only had belles village area to entertain besides the rides... and toy story land only has props... but that’s not what swge will be.

People spend hours just admiring and enjoying areas like hogsmeade... that’s what this will be but a whole lot more as well.

Ideas like “but what about repeatability etc” have no impact on the time period we are talking about here.

It’s a problem that will heal itself if you just wait.
I don't want it now though. I just think Disney should be opening complete products. It's all academic for me, as I won't be back for probably 2 years. DVC and all.

Well obviously, they are controlling access to DL's version for the first couple of months. The reservation system DL has set up to access the land proves that.

While no reservation system for WDW, I can see them controlling access to Galaxy's Edge for quite a while at DHS.
You're right though, we won't know until we can see for ourselves.
I hope I am just overestimating the popularity of the land since I grew up in the '70s with the original trilogy and have been waiting for something like this since I was a wee one.

I honestly can't believe they would open the expansion with only 1 RIDE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good luck getting a seat in the Falcon - - 6+ hours will prob be a good time - I expect 8+ hours the first couple of weeks or months depending on when the Rise of the Resistance opens.
Personally I feel this to be a greedy move - Even at 2 rides I felt the land had little to do - - - - places to shop, eat and spend money yes.....but rides.
Just when you think Iger can't get any greaser !

Hogsmeade had THREE - - - - and is MUCH smaller than SWGE - - - - -

Greed - pure and simple - - Instead of offering a complete product. Let em in and grab their cash.

I do not think you are overestimating - - - - SW has a larger fan base than Potter. - spanning decades.
The highways leading to HS will be jammed - - - mark my words.

The number of rides does not dictate the maximum wait... it will always be bound by people's willingness to wait.

Besides the nutjobs that absolutely need to be there for opening... The general population will not wait 6-8hrs for a few minute attraction. Not when the vast majority of them paid $100+ just to be there for the day.

The waits will be more like what we saw with FoP... waits like 250-300mins would probably the the peak averages beyond the initial rush.

So we purposfully planned our trip this sept, before the projected opening of starwars land to avoid the crowds. Thanks Disney, you really know how to screw up a vacation. With all that you have to do months in advance to plan a vacation at WDW changes like this are very bad.

Seems like you decided to take on the risk by booking in September when the opening date for SW was not locked in yet.

Many Bothans died to bring this information....

So, after talking with my insiders, WDI have planned ROTR to be opened later than the rest of the land for a while now. After having lots of problems, they knew they wouldn’t make the target date. The land opening way ahead of schedule was almost undoubtedly Iger’s handiwork as park attendance across the country has been low, plus the quarterly analysis. Likewise, operationally, they probably want to avoid a Diagon Alley incident. Simply put, Falcon has been very reliable in testing, but ROTR hasn’t been. From an operations standpoint, it’s going to be a nightmare to keep running before it breaks down, as well as the upkeep. They want to work out all the issues before trying to open.

That being said, if you’re visiting Disneyland late July, you may have a possibility of a soft opening for ROTR, but that’s one very big IF.
Hmmm... hoping that it will be open by D23. Perhaps they will have a special preview for D23; they did that last time with the revised Fantasmic, offering Parks & Resorts panel guests special viewing of the new show.

Guess it just depends on how quickly the performance issues are realized.

Just avoid SWGE and you'll be fine. The majority of the world can't change their life to vacation in sept if they couldn't before. The attendance boost will be from the day-tripper populations who will be focusing on SWGE. You'll be fine.

Wait, so it’s his fault he went by Disney’s own released information?

I have a trip planned for Aug 25-30, specifically to avoid the Star Wars craziness. My ADRs were set in February. All based on Disney’s own information, and their 180 day ADR window. Now, they announce a, no, THE major new land opening in August (which by absolutely no standard could be considered late fall), with the announcement coming inside their own 180 day window. And somehow, this is my fault? Ok.

Look, I actually think it’s genius that they are opening early. But it absolutely sucks for those of us who booked based on historical crowd levels.

maybe we can sell our sept hotel reservations for a nice profit, take the money and buy plane tickets to Parris, they have a Disneyland there and from what I hear it doesn’t have any over crowding issues….

It is no ones fault. Dates change constantly.

I was just looking at my DVC reservation and compared it to the rate Disney would charge for the room. I was shocked they want 7499 plus tax for my room for 9 nights. I am so happy I have my DVC membership.

So... how early in the week do we think crowds will start to be INSANE for the 8/29 opening?

My quiet 8/19-8/30 trip will now be decidedly different...
