It's a two day cruise to nowhere. Full stop. Why are people still unable to figure this out? How on earth do people survive two day cruises to nowhere?
.

You can spin it any way you like, doesn't change the fact that it's also a hotel at one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations and there are going to be people who don't want to be locked out of that for two days.

But they will still want to stay there, and they will. They will just not go all in with the immersion. And Disney will happily take their money.

I agree. They definitely won’t flat out ban young kids. What they could do is market it more for adults and older kids. They could make restrictions like “due to narrow hallways and the flow of the attractions, no strollers inside the resort”. They could limit kids food options for the meals (no way they eliminate kids food since some older kids are still picky eaters...and some of their parents;)). They could make the price the same for everyone (no kid discount) and also not free for kids under 3. I can almost guarantee you that the vast majority of families with a 2 year old or under will skip this if they have to shell out $1K plus for some food and entertainment the kid won’t even want. Especially when theme parks are free and kids dining is cheap on property. It would be a no brainer.
This ignores the fact that the Disney cruises have Star Wars role playing already. And Star Wars is ultimately a children’s film. Kids are their primary audience with teens and adults second. Despite GE skewing older, the hotel will cater to all ages.

Absolutely.
There is no way WDW is going to exclude any family that might contain toddlers or babies that families like to clad in Star Wars t-shirts.
Again, I believe that some people are taking this far too seriously.
It's Disney, it's fun - they're not going to tell anyone of any age that they can't go.
They'll leave you out of role play if that's what you want.
They won't take your phone.
You'll be able to leave the Star Wars experience and go to Magic Kingdom if you choose to do so - you're not a prisoner and you're not really in space.

You must have missed the segment of this thread (I think it was this one) with the extended discussion about how Star Wars wasn't for kids. :cautious: :joyfull:

My worry is how many asshats is it going to take complaining that the resort isn't what they expected because they didn't bother to do any research and booked simply because its the popular thing to do before Disney waters down the experience to the point that it becomes just another resort.

That is who Disney are aiming this at, this is something new for Disney, its an experiment a self contained experience, a contained cruise if you will, if successful it will be sent to all the other parks dressed up in all manner of franchises.

They're not going to be excluded by rule, they're going to be de facto excluded based on price. Disney isn't going to ban them from coming, but it's going to be so freaking expensive that families who are just casually into Star Wars aren't going to bother.

They probably will say that during this Star Wars immersive experience guests may encounter loud noises, bright flashing lights that may upset some people. That'll keep out the little ones and the disinterested ones.

Yes, but families with the means to afford this, aren't going to be any more all hands on board into Star Wars than any other segment of the population.

Think about when you stay in say - Animal Kingdom Lodge.
You're supposed to be in Africa.
You look out onto a savannah, and the hotel staff are for arguments sake - African.
Just bring that up a few notches where the hotel staff interact with you through role play, and instead of windows out onto the plains - you view a Star Field.
Like I said a while back, think Adventurer's Club, for those of you who remember it.

From the permit pictures, I don't see any outdoor pool. Just saying. I fully expect there will be a pool inside someplace.

In that same picture, I do see a full hotel port cochere with a bus loop. While possible that it's only for arrival and departure, I'm betting you'll be able to pick up transportation much like any other hotel.

On the topic of splitting up parties for those who want to do this vs those who do not in different hotels for the duration of the event. I don't see that as likely. And, it's not really a "wasted" ticket for the person leaving it's just a redistribution of cost. It's just to long a time. While it's technically "2 days" or "48 hours", it'll feel like more than that to be split up. It's 2 nights and "3 days" even if it's only half a day on the start and end days. That's a long time to be totally split up instead of just having a few people ditch out for a bunch of hours and still regroup at some points in the day (and still take some smaller advantage of the experience).

Take that family of 4 plus grandma "straw grandma", assuming a room for 5 people at $2,000 a person for $10,000 total. One of the kids isn't really into Star Wars and grandma doesn't care one way or the other she just wants happy grand kids (doesn't every grandma, even a straw one?). They check in, do the first night everything as a family. The middle day, grandma takes one kid off to the magic kingdom for a few hours. They regroup as a family for an hour in the space pool. Grandma takes that kid to DHS for a few hours, then they all meet back up for dinner in space and any other event activities. They do the last day together as a family for the half day before leaving/transferring resorts.

Some people will look at that and say, grandma and the kid wasted $4,000. Or, since they did "half" the stuff, wasted $2,000. But, the other way to look at it is, the experience was worth $2,666 for the full experience for the other 3 people. Sure, that's more than the $2,000 but they got do to the full experience and also didn't have to separate completely from the others for 2 days that felt like 3. Plus the others got to some of it too. The alternative would be splitting up with no contact for the entire 48 hours, or not doing it at all. Both of which sound worse and could easily be worth the cost.

PS: I thought the "Straw Grandma" was great, whomever posted that first.

PPS: I forgot, context totally matters. A real cruise isn't 10 minutes away from the freaking happiest place on earth. No matter the plan, for this location, that will always be true and in people's minds as they plan a stay. Everyone can try to deny that it's there or that you'll want to go. But, it's still right there. Can't we all just be happy?
