News Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser coming to Walt Disney World 2021

It just seems an especially dreadful arrival for such an expensive experience when, relatively speaking, very little money could be spent to make it much better.

Am I being too optimistic in thinking that they're just letting it go for now because they plan to use the parking lot expansion areas for more Star Wars eventually anyway?

I'm not a fan of that either - but the difference there, of course, is that 1) Disneyland doesn't have the spatial opportunity to Master Plan this stuff the way they do at Walt Disney World, who could have been more strategic if they so chose, and 2) Guests pulling into the parking structures at Disneyland aren't on the approach for their $6,000+ two-night, dedicated Star Wars Extravaganza.

Under those circumstances it should be reasonable to expect more showmanship from Disney. Even simply rerouting the entrance along the other side of the Starcruiser building would have helped.

So when is the marvel version of this coming? This is the 5th gate people talked about for so long. Less people bringing in more money for a lower construction and operating cost. As a big star wars fan this looks cool, sad it has the first order storyline. I don’t think the price is the biggest problem, it’s the timeline as is GE problem.

The Dis went for a full trip, with 2 nights stay and a trip to Galaxy's Edge. Their video for the trip is over 2 hours long. I think its a good overview of the entire experience. I found it a more favorable view of the trip than the 4 hour experience video was.

The Dis is more then a vlogger though, I believe.

I assume Disney considers them in the Journalist bracket?

So, as I sit here watching the videos and hearing similar conclusions quesitoning the cost, and saying make sure you really get involved in everything, I have realized why I think this is a miss. As has been mentioned, for this, you need a lot of money, and be a big Disney/Star Wars fan. Also, add in you have to be big into role playing/interacting with characters (which probably puts my family out right there).

BUT, I'm thinking of repeatability. You go, you do all the missions, why come back? I guess you could go through making other choices, but you know what is coming. I think the miss is, this should have been a cruise. I know the pool became a joke, but legit, have a pool, have a little theater where you have acts (heck, do it like a cruise where you have someone in for a few weeks or something like that), add a kids play area, add a couple more bars. Make the trip to Batuu an excursion you sign up for. Make it so you can't explore and do everything in one go, so the rich go "That was fun, but man, I really want to come back and check out that other lounge." Or "Man, I wonder what the show would be next time." "I'd love to try that upgraded restaurant."

Definitely not disagreeing with you. I think they could have done way more to conceal things on both coasts.

Watching The Dis video, it looked like they did a good job involving the kids. I am not surprised they were upset about leaving.
My son at this age would have loved this. He went on the Pirate Cruise twice at WDW. Once at 5yo and then again at 8. He did say when he was 8, that it had more magic for him at 5.

This reinforces my impression looking at the preview photos/art that they are aiming this at young families with lots of cash who may be looking for a short, unique family experience. From the videos, it seems like kids would probably love it, so if you had the cash and had some small kids I could see it being tempting. Possibly even preferable that a week running around the theme parks if you were only doing it for the kids' sake. Then the rest can be a smattering of Disney and Star Wars adults. Maybe there is a market there after all?

I couldn't care less if they lower the price or not. The consensus seems to be it's fun, but too expensive. And my thoughts are if they did lower the price, they'd probably have bookings for years.

Do, don't do, I don't care - Star Wars role playing or whatever holds no interest for me.

This is exactly where I am on it. I understand all the debates regarding whether it is worth the exact price point, but that is kind of irrelevant to me as I wouldn't book it if they slashed the two night stay to $500. It just isn't for me at really any price and I've long ago given up trying to predict what other people's price limit is when it comes to Disney theme parks. We will find out what it is for this soon enough, but in the meantime the actual product seems to be getting a more favourable response than we thought it would a day ago.

I am still amazed at such a poor arrival experience. With all the negative buzz, I honestly never expected you would just drive up to the Star Cruiser plainly seeing that it was just a long concrete bunker.

As I said, it's a still from footage filmed by an invited guest arriving for their trial stay on the Starcruiser. This is what the guests see when they pull up:

Yeesh. I hope something is done to clean up the area a bit! I know it’ll take time for trees to grown in but can we at least get themed poles for the traffic signs, like you know, EVERYWHERE ELSE on property.

I hope it’s well done. But as a lifelong fairly hardcore Star Wars nut…I don’t see any scenario where I ever do it. to each their own

But the one would be heavy reinvestment/augmentation of both the space barge AND the park land. And I see no realistic path to that.

I haven’t been hugely excited about Starcruiser but we will see how it evolves.

I’ve been a Star Wars fan all my life but I am now 34 and watch it usually now and again. Disney Star Wars has been hit and miss for me too

However, I have a 6 year old son who would absolutely love this experience. I want to do it for him but it probably be a one and done.

The price is the biggest stickler, but again, if I maybe plan to go in day 2 years from now, saving bit by bit will make it more palatable.

What they absolutely have to do though is sort some of these activities. There’s absolutely no way I’m paying that kind of money to do Dance lessons.

The videos I’ve watched tonight make it look decent so it’s going to be a wait and see for me…

You have to hand it to Disney, there's something quite horrifyingly poetic about taking dance lessons and playing space bingo whilst your ship is occupied by hostile figures that I don't think even they could design for if they tried.

I've put my wallet in the vault on this one. I was ready. I can play Video games on my computer for free, comic con in Atlanta every year, 300 bucks, 2 people for 3 days, 225 bucks for 1 day ticket to SWGE for 2 people, 100 bucks for QS while I'm there, 60 bucks for LL's to ROTR and Genie for Smuggler's run.

The CM costumes are still terrible. They make everyone look like they don't know how to dress themselves or are wearing someone else's clothes.

It's good to hear the performances are going well. Sad that those performers don't get tipped for great service like the CMs on the cruise ships do... where 'mandatory' tipping is basically a thing.
