"Han and Leia Went to Disney World for Their Honeymoon

The happy couple took a ride on the theme park's Galactic Starcruiser in the most romantic corporate synergy possible"

Thought this was satire. But I was wrong. https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-princess-and-the-scoundrel

This would immediately make the Halcyon the oldest Disney cruise ship. The Magic has been in use since 1998. However, assuming Han and Leia went on the Halcyon a few years after ROTJ, then the 30 years that separate that film and TFA means that, technically, the Halycon has been in operation for a longer period than the Magic's 24 years.
It already is. Don’t forget this all happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
Also this has to be one of the most blatantly stupid ideas Disney has come up with. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse.

the whole Han and Leia thing is what happens when SYNERGY goes wrong...really, really wrong.

It's a cynical attempt to tie completely unrelated things together besides both being labeled as "Star Wars".

It's difficult to explain but synergy, bringing nostalgia in, callbacks, fan service, whatever you want to call it needs to FEEL organic and fitting to a story. It's the difference between something well done....most MCU movies, and something not well done, like the Solo movie (it's not terrible, but some of it is cringeworthy).

This reminds me of the "Peter Quill visited EPCOT" thing also. It felt corny and a bad excuse to push this ride for EPCOT Center purists...and once again...cynical. They should have pushed the Kevin Feige is a big EPCOT Center fan angle instead...that he would help ensure it's done with the heart of what made the original EPCOT Center great (though I don't know if that will happen)

Han said he felt lonely when he occasionally travelled the galaxy without Chewie.

So one night Leia made him a stuffed bantha to take with him, and the next morning it came to life!

Now Duffy - The Star Wars® Bantha follows Han on all his adventures!

And you can bring Duffy & Friends to a Galaxy near you too for just $89.99!

You know, when I think about role-playing in the honeymoon suite, LARP-ing isn't exactly what comes to mind...

I'm glad that WDI's time-honored tradition of tortured backstories lives on. Well, maybe "glad" isn't the right word, but this certainly fits the mold of some of their most overwrought and unnecessary "story details" like Gustav Tinkerschmidt, Don Tomas, and Miss Evelyn Toro. It's not cute and charming; it's senseless pandering.

Can't agree more. It seems someone at WDI enjoys creative writing as a hobby as they seem to love coming up with random characters and backstories for everything from stores on upward. This conversation is going on in the Main Street Confectionary thread, but the mixed-up priorities are evident there where they came up with a fictional contest and whole bunch of fictional characters whose biographies are pasted up in the store. They didn't, however, bother to make the images of the characters look like they are from the same time period as the store.

Imagineering’s best world building ever for a single land was Dinoland. I will die on this hill.

Umm, HELLO, McFly!

The Halycon is from a long time ago in a galaxy far away so this was already a known! 🙄

From what I understand, this was a selling point to TDO as there was already an in-universe excuse for poor maintenance and lack of upkeep in years to come as elements break and become outdated.

That's been a tough nut for them to crack in the parks but they've finally found a way to do it with a resort cruise!

Perhaps it's just different strokes for different folks. I've heard tales of how incredibly bad the Star Wars Holiday Special was, but after rewatching these 2 movies last week (first time since childhood) I can't help but assume the special has to be much better. Honestly I am floored that those projects made it out of the cutting room.

I think Lucas saw a quick money deal to help expand his companies and didn't actually care about putting together a cohesive story.

Not to mention these were made in the wake of his divorce from Marcia Lucas, so I kind of think his heart might not have been into it.

But hey we get Wilford Brimley as a cranky old hermit on Endor who may or may not have dropped Star Wars' only F-bomb.

And we get the added bonus of Principal Vernon offed by a group of alien marauders.
