Those in charge seem to have disdain for organic growth and publicity...and like many other things they're doing, I think it's going to hurt them in the long run, and you're right - it's already started to for the Starcruiser.
I've been studying how social media works via various services. Seems that the Influencers are the ones towing the company line in order to get invited to the next "event". Disney creates these "previews for them. Kinda reminds me of the leaks car companies do by running thinly disguised cars in public to get reactions; and they're hoping for good reactions. Do we see other resorts doing these events to drive buzz? Is DIsney trying to do the same but aren't good at it? I KNOW I'm not!

But... but... Disney!! MAGIC!!! Are you saying that Disney doesn't actually understand Star Wars and has no idea how to market it to its core audience and instead only knows how to market to millennials and Gen-Z who have no ties or attachment to what made the franchise what it was prior to 2012?
Nicely put.

Even if Disney hadn't crapped all over Star Wars and their Fans, people still want a good product, especially if they have to pay a premium for it. Right now this doesn't appear to have the hallmarks of a good product, and people appear to be taking a wait and see approach to it. This is one of those things that sounded real great in a conference room, but now that it is coming into reality it doesn't look as great.

Disney does not think the 'core audience of Star Wars' is people over 40 and they're probably right.

Wait... you're saying the "core audience" for Star Wars is not those who saw the OT or even the ST?
Disney World's core demographic is girls aged 4-12.

Disney wants Star Wars core audience to be 12-24 because they are the most profitable and influential group.

The characters of that generation and the timeline are still the driving force of the Star Wars franchise. Young kids are still drawn to those stories and characters.
Most anticipated Star Wars series will be Kenobi.

I guess it depends on what 'core audience' means. People who saw the OT in theaters are coming up on 50 if not 60.

They put out a lot of things straight-out marketed to children to have their core targeted audience be my age. (44)

They better hope their main SW audience isn't potentially 20+ years away from dying.

Star Wars core audience is everyone, really. The original trilogy was an action adventure that appealed to kids, but didn't talk down to anyone, so adults had the same level of enjoyment.

That started to change a bit from Return of the Jedi onwards, where it became more kid focused. Ewoks, Jar-Jar, things like that were kid friendly and less appealing to adults.

It's a little unclear what demographic Disney is going for here. Adults with money to burn might want more of an original trilogy experience, but kids might have a stronger reaction to Rey and Kylo.

Is this like The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, or Ghostbusters Afterlife, where the idea is we're going to give you a soft remake of what you loved that you can share with your kids?

People complain this isn't the OT timeframe, but I don't begrudge Disney for moving forward. I'm sure an experience themed around a movie released in the 1970's would raise a few eyebrows. Star Wars can't survive forever if A New Hope is all anyone responds to.

The Star Wars fan audience is broad and not age specific. For anyone i.e., Disney to attempt to whittle down the focus to a specific age demographic is limiting. "Know Your Audience" is one of the keys to success in entertainment and it's becoming clearer by the day that Disney does not know the Star Wars audience.
