For the pricing discussion... consider this.

When Disney was pitching to guests what they think they would be willing to pay... Disney benchmark to set the baseline of 'what you already spend...' was a DELUXE room, Dining included, theme park tickets, and spending. And we're not talking free dining period :)

I forget the number they used... but I want to say it was like 3k or more to say the 'average wdw stay costs' and then tried to upsell you from there.

Now.. of course the whole point of the survey was to flesh out the market's tolerance for price.. so all those discussions were subject to change anyway.

I would expect this to cost MORE than a cruise of comparable length. That's my guessing...
I agree. And for those who are saying this won't be a luxury experience, Chapek states it will be a level of luxury never seen before right in his presentation. I stand by my $5-10k for a family of four.

Hear me out.. this is why I think Disney was so brilliant with coming out with the movies when they did..

My general age group, those who loved the first 3 films.. who had the toys as children.. now we all have school aged children.

Those school age children have become huge fans in their own right.

But most importantly- it is a shared fandom between the Parent and the Child. Gen X and Gen Z (or whatever they are now). That's what makes it so powerful, and such a goldmine for Disney.

I don't go to Star Wars conventions or fan websites, but I know parents of school aged children.. I know that this resort has had all of us pumped and talking about it.. from the Die Hard Fan Dads.. to the more Casual Fan Moms. (Just using examples, not being sexist).

Our kids all have rooms decked in SW. Their birthday parties are SW themed. They stay up too late to see the movie on opening night with their parents. They own all of the toys and Legos.. and they constantly play SW with their friends on recess and play dates. These are the kids who don't complain about waiting an hour for JTA sign ups.. who's favorite Disney character is a SW character.

Those kids, and those parents, will be at that resort. In droves.
Extremely well put. This describes me and a number of my friends to a tee.

I don't see how they can FORCE (pun kind of intended) you to do every "experience" that comes with staying at the resort, and not allow you to leave/take a nap in your room/take a long bathroom break/whatever. For the high price, they may assume that most folks staying there want to get as much value for their money as they can - but I would think that they would allow you to do as much or as little Star Wars activities as you want.

I would think that it would be analogous to staying at an island resort with a resort fee that includes all this cool stuff, but instead of doing the snorkeling class at 11am you decide to hit the nearby golf course. If you're staying at the SW hotel and want to go to Epcot for the day I can't imagine they'd have some dudes dressed up as Imperial Guards try to tackle you on the way out.

No one said they would!

Immediate fail.

How many times do I have to say it... They won't lock you in and deny anyone the ability to leave if the person really wants to leave.

That is different from the idea of people freely coming and going through a normal resort.

If I had @WDW1974 say it instead of me would you all believe it?

Seems like we are on the same page? No, I don't think that just anyone could go into the resort, but if you're a guest there you would be able to come/go as you please. Reading the last few pages of this thread made me think that there was some confusion.

Sounds like they are going to have an interesting job marketing just what exactly this is.

Actually plenty of people here are saying just that. Ignoring the fact that families will be staying together, with different interest levels. There are some who are arguing this is a forced march kind of thing and they will not let you out of the front door.

Quote where they said that please so I can see.

They wont, you can do what you like, I'm sure. There will be activities you're missing out on that might be included with the resort fee. Some people exaggerate the intensity.

It will be easy... they've already done it (and a great job of it). It's just not public. It's not a difficult concept for anyone who has ever gone on a cruise, gone camping, or gone to a good all-inclusive resort.

And no, the concept is not 'come and go as you please'. The concept is you check in.. and stay till your departure. Thinking about the outside world and wanting to exit is at YOUR loss. Disney is not going to kidnap you, but they aren't going to have big lobby doors luring you to skip all the story and placemaking they went through so you could grab a ride on Soarin'.

People who keep thinking that way are exactly why we can't have nice things... and why great story telling like the living seas were destroyed.

And as God as my witness. If I'm there and enjoying the exquisite role-playing and some slob comes up to me and asks what he missed because he ducked out for a Soarin' fastpass, I will let loose with a blistering verbal tirade that will incinerate his soul.

Its funny how Disney pitches one of it's most bold inclusive concepts yet... and 'fans' are focused on how to leave... (after paying for it no less)

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!

Is this when the stormtroopers intercede and haul you off to role play as a prisoner in star wars jail? LOL

Please quote the part of the article that says the hotel will be built within Galaxy's Edge or within the borders of the park. I don't see it.
It's in the capture of the image gallery.

EDIT: It's on the third page. It says: "Disneyland dreams: The hotel will be part of the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Disney World expansion in Orlando. At D23 Expo 2017, Disney showcased a detailed model of Galaxy's Edge, pictured here."
