I've been thinking...
The only way I could convince myself of a space role play full immersion thing would have been when my sons were little.
Because I would have been doing it with and for them.
I would have worn a costume for them, play acted for them.
When kids are little, their ability to believe what they pretend is quite real and can be very enjoyable for a parent.

Now, that my sons will likely be 18 years of age when this hotel opens - I can't really see us role playing.
Not that I wouldn't like to check out this hotel and stay there if we could afford to.
I know my sons would still want to stay.

When your kids are little... things even like Jedi Academy can be top of the world.

When your kids are older... the standard of what it takes is much higher, but it doesn't necessarily exclude them. Just look at the environment at CONs, etc... the 16-30 crowd is the bulk of the people there. And they can get into all kinds of things about their fandom.

IMO.. all the discussion about 'no kids' is insane... the kids are the ones who will eat it up the most. It's the 'bored teenager' that is the hardest and most critical audience.... while the older folks can appreciate the different tie-ins, etc.

Different age brackets hone in on different things.

No way they put an age restriction on this.

This idea of age restrictions has already backfired on the Edison. Need to rethink the audience in WDW. Sure you'd like a purely adult crowd but how many empty tables can it sustain? So much competition.

Can't imagine Disney banning children of any age in a resort.

What is the Edison you're referring to? Search couldn't find a reference to it in this thread.

BTW, I don't think anyone in this thread has suggested that this resort will be age restricted, though it has been put forward that age restricting certain experiences might be appropriate. Personally, I don't see age _restrictions_ at all, but just that there may be some age recommendations for enjoyment.

People have questioned what activities would be available for toddlers and thus, whether questioned how toddlers would be accommodated.

I think all the "discussion" of "no kids" was actually started by people who made up the idea that kids would be banned and then became indignant at the idea. This phenomenon is strange to me. Is there a name for it? And were there actually people lured into taking the position that kids would be banned? I could see how this happens if someone taking the "no way kids would be banned" position said enough inflammatory and outrageous things. I mean look how I've been lured into a discussion under the ridiculous premise that Disney would ban kinds. It's like the previous "discussion" we had in this thread about how it was ridiculous to suggest that Disney would confiscate cellphones or the previous "discussion" we had in this thread about how Disney would keep guests captive and not let them leave for 3 days.

I obviously didn’t word that well. As far as I know they have not lifted the age restriction.
The two times I’ve been there they have had staff outside actively trying to encourage guests to come in.

Bioreconstruct thinks the cyan covering is seeding. But, according to the filed blueprints about 90% of the cyanized area will be covered by building and parking.

So, anyone know what that is?

It does look like hydroseeding. If it is, that would mean they don't plan to actually start construction for a while. Maybe they are waiting for the land to settle for a bit.

In these discussions people tend to go to extremes. A discussion around age restrictions and how they might handle toddlers (kids 3 and under) turned into “Disney banning all kids”. This resort will obvioulsy appeal to a lot of kids and there’s no chance Disney would make it adult only. That shouldn’t even be a discussion. Since we don’t know all of the details I think it’s to fair to speculate on how things might work. The cell phone ban was one poster suggesting they ban phones because it would ruin immersion. That’s not going to happen either. Another extreme.

On the kid front, I think it’s a valid discussion around how they will handle kids 3 and under. With something like Jedi Training Academy you have to be 4 and you have to be able to follow basic instructions. I would imagine most of the activities involved with this resort will require a similar level of participation. With Jedi Training Academy it’s less than an hour of time so it’s easy enough for a family to split up during the pre-show time. When my kids were 3 and 6 my oldest did JTA and my wife went with him while he was getting ready pre-show and I took the youngest to HISTK playground which was nearby. We met up and watched the show together. It was a short period of time so easy to coordinate. With a 2 day experience will they have available alternative options for toddlers? A play area or a kiddie pool? If they do offer that, will it be worth spending thousands of dollars for a family when one of the adults will miss out on every experience? Maybe they could offer a day care type option, but this resort isn’t that big already so how much space will need to be dedicated to toddler care?

As was stated many times before, this is Disney so they are very unlikely to flat out ban kids under 4 from the resort. As a result I think they need to have a plan to accommodate that crowd. If not there will be experiences (like JTA) that are not appropriate for kids that young but the parents will show up with them and their giant strollers and that could take away from the overall experience for everyone else.
