Well, keep a look for the casting notices for 25-50 equity actors to do 24/7 interaction with guests.
I hope someone runs the math. $1000 a night, doesn't come close to covering that payroll.

What makes you think the interaction is going to be 24/7, 1-on-1, or wholly dependent on live equity actors?

"Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

I mean, doesn't that kinda sound like 24/7 and 1-on-1 ?

So you read that quote from Disney and then jump to one of two extremes each at opposite ends of the spectrum?

No, what Disney is saying they are going to deliver and what they will actully decide is cost effective to deliver is going to be two very different things. Hence why I said please don't expect this to be a 24/7 LARP when it's all said and done.

This bit of ad-copy isn't specifying any operational or logistical details whatsoever, and any rational prediction that takes into account any of the techniques and practices already in common use in the themed entertainment industry would certainly not lead one to the two conclusions you have apparently reached.

No doubt. But Disney never said there would be dozens of equity actors 24 hours a day. Not even close. You basically just made that up to support your belief that it will be little more than themed sheets.

Even if Disney scales back whatever it originally intended it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing deal as you seem to believe. You are wrong on both counts.

Good lord... stop thinking this will be some 24/7 LARP.

You get rooms with themed bed sheets, a VR Window that lets you look out at the "Stars", a little extra decor in the lobby and priority admission into the park in the AM..... that's about it.

(okay and a high priced restaurant only accessible IF you stay at that resort)

Don't worry though, marketing dept is going to sell you the moon and the stars and price this accordingly. They just know people are going to be ready to pay the highest room rates this side of endor.

No, it doesn't.
Pay attention to the wording.
Your windows displaying a starfield makes it a story that's 100% immersive every minute of the day.
Everyone's stay anywhere (not just at Disney) is a unique journey for that person.
Will there be people in character all the time? Yes.
Will there be programs guests can participate in? Yes.
I do not believe however that every guest who stays at this hotel is going to have a scripted stay start to finish.

I think it will be more like those Murder Mystery Weekends hotels put on. Something that runs the whole stay but doesn't demand your involvement the entire time.

I believe such a thing will be offered.
I don't believe that every guest will be involved in such a thing unless they choose to.
(I just realized that's exactly what you wrote.)

Every guest who stays that does not participate in the role-playing activities will have wasted a huge amount of dinero.

Wasted according to who?
For some guests, staying in the theming will be enough.
What you are saying is like saying that the person who takes a cruise, chooses not to engage in the activities on deck or offshore wasted their money.
Not to them.

Not exactly the first time that will happen at WDW.
Touché!

Good point. Clearly, the concept of "waste" implies a concept of "value"... When, in the end, we decide whether or not WDW is even necessary, one could make the argument that if the value concept line is drawn at "need," then the whole thing is a "waste" of money. And if the value concept line is drawn at "it's new, and it's exclusive, so I must participate," then there you go.

As for your cruise analogy, I'd say that if the value line is drawn at "I want to get on a big boat and go somewhere," money applied toward that goal, if that's what you want, is money well spent. Conversely, for someone who will spend the entire cruise on the rail chumming for sharks, maybe not so much.

Speaking of the cruise ship analogy, I wonder if they'll have bingo? Or maybe sabaac? But since they don't actually go into international waters/interstellar space, they can't have real gambling. :( I guess you could play to win the Falcon...

I’m not a big cruise fan so maybe I’m just missing something, but if you go on a cruise and don’t take advantage of any of the activities on the ship or do offshore excursions wouldn’t that be by definition a waste of money?

No chance there will be real gambling for cash, but some form of competition for prizes is possible and would be kinda cool.
