You really believe everything that was in a survey or concept art, will come to fruition?
Given how close together the survey and the announcement of the resort were? Yes, I think they had some very solid plans in place and were really testing the waters on the price point with that survey.

Flight simulators already exist. Disney recently patented a VR lightsaber technology. There are plenty of indications that they are ready to deliver on the bullet points from the survey.

But that is just my opinion based on what little we know — I am no insider and have no sources.

Let me guess.. you've never taken them on a cruise or remote getaway?

You'd be amazed at how throughly happy people are being 'trapped on a ship' - including small children... where the things they can do are fixed for them.

I've noticed something that people who refuse to think cruising for them are oblivious to ... they don't realize Sea Days (where you are trapped on the boat) are some of the BEST DAYS OF THE CRUISE. We do 7 day cruises simply because of MORE SEA DAYS, not because of more Ports of Call.

I went on a cruise once, and I'll never do it again.
I did indeed feel trapped on the boat.
But that is largely due to where cruising takes place - in beautiful tropical locations.
I would so much prefer to be at a hotel on a beach.
One I can walk in and out of, right to the ocean. Get my toes in the sand, walk into the water, look at the fish...
Instead, I felt trapped in a giant hotel that only visited the shore.
And when it did, our time was limited.

Anyway, a Star Wars themed hotel while being cruise ship like in some ways - is also quite difference.
The theming and overall experience has never been done before.
As for kids, I know that my sons would have loved to live a Star Wars experience for days.
At 16 years of age now, at least one of them is still more than willing to do it.

We'll have to see how it turns out, but I'm still having a hard time seeing it as a multi day completely (mostly) stand alone experience instead of a compliment to the rest of the WDW offerings.

From a sales perspective, it's a very different thing too.

As a compliment to the rest of WDW, it's an upcharge for an additional experience, probably many hours of experiences. That's a relatively easy thing to think of. Just like people pay the upcharge for better restaurants or better hotels, or better/different activities. The sales proposition is that you're enjoying the entire WDW complex and upgrading assorted activities. Paying for a a few days to get a bunch of Star Wars stuff sounds like a good deal. Even if expensive, it could fit right in.

As a stand alone attraction that replacing the entire WDW complex (mostly), it's a very different proposition. Now, instead of providing an upcharge premium experience, it's providing a competing experience. The stand alone Star Wars experience is competing to replace the rest of the WDW complex and all of it's offerings. And, at a premium on top of that.

If I've got 7 days to vacation (more or less), the stand alone proposition is that instead of 7 days of the entire WDW complex it's replaced by 5 days of the WDW complex and 2 days of Star Wars experience. Those 2 days are a direct competition to using the rest of WDW for days 6 and 7. Even worse, the park tickets with park hopper for days 6 and 7 are about $50 (when you buy 7 days instead of 5 in total). So, it's stay at whatever resort an extra 2 nights plus practically free park access vs what we're assuming is a huge upcharge for 2 days in Star Wars.

It's possible they can sell this. Especially with the Star Wars hype, and some very through marketing. But, it feels strange to position it as competition to the rest of WDW instead of complimentary.
That’s what makes it fun and challenging.

You know what's funny?
Some people need to have a more of an imagination. Just because something is difficult or never been done before doesn’t mean it cannot be achieved and be an amazing product.

If you worked with me and every creative and/different idea presented received the response, “no, that won’t work because...” you would drive me crazy. I want to hear how it can work, not why it won’t.

Another simple point that seems to be overlooked is that this is a space transport. I'm sure there is a day/night of transporting from Earth to SWGE, then a day there to come and go as you please between the ship and DHS (albeit through SWGE), then a day/night transport back to Earth. So agreeing with posts that they won't lock you in, they also cannot as part of the adventure is to go to the land in a more integrated way. Until more details are released, I think debate is simply burning time.

My thoughts on how this might work:

Mobile devices are surrendered and locked up at check-in. There is an emergency contact provided for the event. You get your devices back when you check out.

You are issued a mobile device that only works on a private network within the environment. This is for guest-guest-CM communication and the LARP.

This isn't a resort. You're here to work. No pools, no workout room. A bar for evening break and entertainment is appropriate to the theme. Maybe a nice themed restaurant or a chow hall, something like Satu'li Canteen.

You don't leave until the end. If you leave your event is over and you don't come back.

A late night at Black Spire Outpost after the park closes.

You are made aware of these restrictions in advance and submit a waiver before you arrive.

Disney would have no problem selling this experience.

There is no way this would work for a 2 night stay. Far too many otherwise interested guests need to ability to contact family and/or use their mobile device for work calls/emails.
Everyone is way to connected to their phones. There used to be a day where you were not connected to anyone as you traveled and for the most part while you were on vacation. In this way technology has ruined our lives, and I work in technology!

I never had the issue when traveling in places where internet is non existant. It is actually a relief being unconnected for a few days. If people are spending that kind of money and they feel the need to make work calls then something is wrong. People are suppose to be on vacation not on a business trip.

The more I read, the more I like my idea of having 2 alien space ports. One port is Batuu and the other is a mini planet built behind the hotel that is exclusive to guests and blocked from view until arrival at the spaceport. Sample itinerary:

Day 1 - board our beautiful new starship - begin Star Wars awesomeness as we hyperspace to our first port of call. Exotic food and amazing live entertainment all included.

Day 2 - Disembark to the spaceport on planet Behindthehotel which is basically a giant swimming pool/bar/show and play area exclusive to hotel guests. Obviously, planet Behindthehotel will be populated with exotic alien life forms to interact with and a great location to continue LARPing (which will be happening both inside and outside the starship). I'm sure they will come up with tons of fun activities that will appeal to kids of all ages. Combine that with more exotic food and entertainment and you have a fun day to be had by all. Or you can leave and check out Disney Springs. It's not prison.

Day 3 - Disembark to Batuu to enjoy priority access to everything going on in Black Spire Outpost. Baggage will be transferred to next destination at WDW or ready for pickup at the end of the day.

IMHO, that sounds like a great way to spend 3 days and 2 nights. YMMV. Of course planet Behindthehotel is pure fantasy on my part. No idea if they have anything like that planned...

I don't think you need to have a second port of call for a 3-day, 2-night itinerary.

Day 1 - Board the ship and disembark, with all the trappings of a first day and night on a cruise ship/space cruiser plus lightsaber training, flight training and the beginnings of your interactive stories.

Day 2 - Arrive at Batuu and explore Black Spire Outpost with a continuation of the stories you experienced on Day 1. You return to the ship that night for more entertainment and the trip home.

Day 3 - Wrap up stories/games in the morning and disembark for the rest of your stay WDW.

Like I have said before, I think guests are going to be left wanting more.

Nobody is getting their cellphones taken away from them. You'll be free to come and go from the resort as you please, but your entrance/exit will likely be masked with an in-story justification (hyperspace shuttle).

Anybody who thinks people are surrendering their cellphones or will be trapped in the resort isn't being realistic or thinking of real life scenarios and responsibilities outside of their own.

Never going to happen, but even if they do implement this, how would it be enforced? Phone in my suitcase and I pull it out when in the room. How would they know?

No way.
There is no way they will even attempt to confiscate your private mobile device.
There is no way they would even attempt to make that part of an agreed upon contract - because virtually no one would agree to it.

Also, there is no reason that whatever it is this Disney resort hotel is portraying - that a gym or a pool couldn't fit into it.
Even prisons have gyms.

Yes to this.
It's not prison, it's a high price vacation.

People take pictures and video of their Disney trip on their phones.
