Because usually if critics like it fans like it too but this a lot of fans aren't liking yet the critics love it.
'a lot of fans' -- Who? Vocal naysayers online?

I loved it, others might not and that's fine because film is subjective, but complaining Star Wars fans need to pick what to be outraged about.

Complaining SW fans after Ep 7 - "This is too similar to A New Hope, do something different Disney!
Complaining SW fans after Ep 8 - "This is too different than the Star Wars I know! Go back to what Star Wars was Disney!

My complaints and the complaints of those I talked to the film are more so the unnecessary humor and the lack of consistency of the story. It just didn't flow well as well as certain storylines just weren't needed.

So because you cannot possibly fathom why critics would like it...you go conspiracy theory? :hilarious:

No...I just don't think the critics arent objective for some reason...

It must be for access/cache with disney...they are now too big to cross, if we're honest

I've seen several mentions of "nuanced"...there is some of that. But I thought the one character that should have been written like that...wasn't...and makes sense in some of the coverage leading up to it regarding complaints.

And I have to say this:
Carrie fisher was awful again...I know that might make me insensitive and Jesus might hit me with a lightning bolt...but I'll own it.

She was awful in force awakens and awful in this and after you see it - you'll understand how deep the problem goes. She just didn't belong on the screen. And it's not a sexist thing...I thought Ford looked terrible too. Didn't fit the part.

This an old mistake though...not a new. Lucas shoulda made the follow up story...it's what everyone wanted and the actors expired on the saga. Go back and look at video clips of the 3 actors in the late 90's - it could have worked.

Character development is not used in this trilogy. So i dont care about them. New character pops up. Hi im henry. So im intrigued in henry. Who is he what does his future hold. Bam dead. Who im the blue hell was henry besides a new action figure. This is paramount in all movies not just star wars. Hell the olympics does it with their profiles. Now i care about this person in a sport i never heard of i hope they win! There is none of this in the new trilogy.

Worst movie ever. Huge star wars fan. Left repeating *** and praying id dreamed it. My opinion only

I'm not that harsh...but seriously what the hell goes on at the Lucas story department? Are there no checks and balances?

It shouldn't be that hard...can we not make a lasting movie without the Soviet?

This is the quote of the day...

Can I ask how old you are? I'm just curious where the "love" demographic is coming from this morning? That's an honest question...I'm
Not baiting you.

Old enough to have an opinion and not be bothered if others don't agree.
I think he was asking your age demographic. Im 42 star wars is 40 years old so maybe i have a different relationship with it than someone of a different age. I think he was just curious. As am i. I doubt he was trying to offend

Overall, I liked it. Plenty of "classic" Star Wars elements, but wasn't afraid to break out of the mold a bit.

The story suffered a bit by including the Luke/Rey meeting in The Force Awakens. Rian Johnson wanted to start there, which makes sense, but it meant no time passing between movies. The story felt a bit small as a result, with the Resistance storyline focused strictly on the aftermath of the previous movie.

Carrie Fisher's death had the effect of adding some tension to the film early on. At least one person I was with thought she died during that explosion.

I liked the Casino scene. Had a slight cantina vibe, especially the music, but the overall look was a nice break from the usual.

The music was great as always, but lacked a wow moment, or anything new really. TFA gave us the beautiful Rey theme and TPM gave us dual of the fates. This was just more of the same, including a reprise of music from Return of the Jedi.

I liked that it surprised me occasionally. Having Finn and the new girl fail at their side mission was unpredictable.

When Carrie Fisher died, I assumed Luke would get a bigger role in Episode 9 to take on some of what would have been Leia's story elements. I wonder if they considered changing the ending of this movie to have Luke be more of a presence in the next film.

It was a little long. They could have shaved some time by skipping Luke's "I'm not going to train you" routine. Of course he's going to train her.

The very end was oddly paced. There were at least three moments I thought the credits were about to roll.

Exactly...which isn't unreasonable.

So I have to assume like 27?

I'm just not interested in sparking a debate with someone who thinks because he didn't like the movie, and critics disagreed with him, therefore Disney must be paying off critics.

I don't want to spark a debate with that guy either...

There are two very different experiences with the two generations when the movies came out...I'm wondering if the appeal falls along those lines.

Don't be so closed minded

I'm a huge star wars nerd and let me preface liglht spoilers ahead. I really enjoyed the movie.

Sure there were parts that aggravated the heck out of me but overall it is a great reset. It sheds itself of some of the troupes it was stuck with. It redefines what hope means and what force is and who can use it. Really standout film

My question is: how many resets do you need? And then what are you resetting for?

It breaks me out of the mold of the story being a Skywalker saga. The force doesn't belong to the Skywalker. It belongs to the galaxy. My big critque of force awakens was that it's a thematic rehash of a new hope. This one challenged us about what the force is about, what is heroism. Fin is a hero, fin has redeemed himself. A special character comes back and reminds us that the force isn't somthing in a book but somthing we should be able to feel and expierence. It is restrained by constraints of understanding or convention. Putting it into a mold is why the Jedi failed.

Luke's journey from naive farm boy to unprepared hero finally get redeemed when he realizes he can't run anymore and why when he didn't finish his training he exposed himself to weakness. Rey is a foil to both klyo ren and luke. The last scene encapsulates what star wars is about.

I dont think 8 should be your reset. There are parts i hated in this movie that if moved to 9 id feel better about. A trilogy is. first movie is introduction to characters second conflict third resolution. To me they failed at character development and theres no reason for a third movie.
