Star Wars Ep. 9 Thread

And the usual nonsense. Sad.

Remember when I told you that patronization = nothing?

Still true.

“Thank you, JJ!!!!”

He’s lining his pockets....if that’s your first thought you really need to re-evaluate what it is you want to see and do on this planet.

(Note: not patronization...just advice)

I don't know. Teaser was fine. I'm just not completely sold on it til I get a real trailer with more story line in it. Just having trouble connecting everything together at this point. Like I said before, I'll see it (most likely in theaters), but this isn't close to the build I have for End Game where I'm purchasing tickets for the very first screening a month in advance.

I aim to please. Friday’s are for “exuberant literalism”

But on a serious (relative) note...I don’t have a huge problem with the emperor...at least the good one from Jedi....
But you have to wonder if any of this is salvageable? I will not be following this too closely...as I have for 40+ years...but I still have a glimmer that around Ho Ho time, word will get out that isn’t actually “pretty good”...

By reputable sources this time

Didn't you also predict DIS stock correction and economic doom?

Zero credibility.

Palpatine coming back.

What happened to letting the past die and killing it if you have to? Lol.

They had a cool new villain in Snoke but noooooooooooo. And now they’re bringing back the Emperor 🤣

This is going to be interesting to watch, like passing a bad car accident lol.

“The Rise of Skywalker.” No. Just no. You killed him in the last movie.

Don't know how Old Palp's is returning. could be ghost, The Force Ghost is something that has never really been explored in the films to a large degree, just showing up here and there.

That was a line spoken from the villain, and then proved wrong by the hero, But I didn't expect you to understand that...

Snoke was a plot device. thats it.

Wow, you must be really fun at parties, almost like a bad car accident... lol

And his Legend was reborn in that film, the whole point was that he re-ignited the spark of hope across the galaxy, which will hopefully in the film lead to the destruction of the First order and redemption of the "prodigal son" Ben Solo, the heir to the Skywalker name.

Your first impression is JJ's compensation?

This teaser actually has me intrigued. And I have been pretty let down by the last two movies. Maybe this one will redeem Disney Wars for me.

Also, am I the only one that thinks that Rey looks like someone CGI'd her head on to a different body? Almost looks like a Jib-Jab "Elf yourself" video initially. I swear I thought this was a fan made clip until I saw Lando.....

Predictions about the market inevitably come true. I hope this one does by June 2020...i have to say it’s not looking good though.

As far as “predictions” about Star Wars...might want to check my records of both analysis and predictions....you’re wandering into the wrong neighborhood, homeslice

My first impression is that they are rehashing everything they can find in that trailer - including dead people and stuff blowed up during the carter and Reagan years....

But you distracted me by “thanking” a guy who is knee deep in a smoldering sequel trilogy that a 12 year old could have done a decent “whizz bang” job of writing...

But some days I’m critical - you know??

What happens in June 2020? Surely you are not hoping for economic pain for political gain. Nobody is that low.

I think that article I posted up thread leaves little doubt that Disney is acknowledging this is a repair/duct tape job. As said in 2017 there was nowhere really left to go. So you dig up billy dee and macdiarmid....

It was cute that billy was wearing the uni of an army that abrams and Kennedy had “rebranded” in 2015 and last Johnson had “custered” in 2017...that’s cute.

But I do truly hope we have a somewhat satisfying end to this...maybe a little redemption? Smart money is likely on a mercy killing thiugh. Like revenge of the sith:

I’m ready for the Jedi to end.

I get the distinct impression 7 was done conservatively at the insistence of the mouse. Entirely reasonable.

JJ cares about what goes on the screen and the legacy of the franchise at least as much as any other director they could have hired. Proof in December.

It is a fine teaser. All the callbacks just reek of desperation to me. Episode IX should’ve been the point where we’re fully invested in the new characters and the old ones have fully passed the baton so to speak.

7 should’ve been the big reunion. One last adventure with Han, Luke, and Leia. At the end when Han dies the other two fully realize they can’t do this forever and must train the next generation who are still introduced in this movie.

Episode 8 sees Luke training Rey (actual training) and Leia continuing to lead the resistance. If Leia’s fakeout death was still a thing in this version the movie is edited so that she actually dies because Carrie Fisher is dead. I don’t like how they’re keeping her in this movie. Rubs me the wrong way. It would’ve given the resistance something big to fight for as well.

In Episode IX Rey’s training is complete and Luke goes the same way Yoda did. Or he lives and stays on the sidelines either one works. Rey faces down Snoke and Kylo, happily ever after, yada, yada, yada.

Well here we agree...7 was a rebranded reboot for the mouse entirely. I blame Kennedy for that more than abrams.

Them both bowing to Ford is another issue.

I do hope he can make this at least a good show with a little ribmeat on it. But he’s notoriously not a good finisher

Abrams was executive producer on 8...he went along with every bit of nonsense until it became clear in early 2018 that lucasfilm has a serious issue...and Kennedy was publicaly silenced for 6 months (still...actually).

It’s been a walk back since. Abrams is too deep in the money...we’ll see if it makes a difference.

You do know the treverrow theory, correct?

You typed better in a minute...and don’t even have iger’s stock compensation package...

See how easy it is??

Honestly I really liked the ending of 8 once they got there. And being the end of it all makes me ok with some call backs. But yeah, I'm not sure about them being main characters either. Like I said, I need to see more of a proper trailer before I'm really going to start judging where they are going. I personally liked Force and had fun with it, BUT I also need to see some continuity out of this one. Something that brings it all together, and I'm not sold on how they are going to accomplish that (especially with JJ already hinting at how he didn't have enough time).

Why feel the need to condescend? I know where the quote comes from. My attempt was to cleverly use it against the idea that “oh you guys just want to see all the past characters and that’s it” that’s constantly brought up when people say how they didn’t like Luke’s portrayal in TLJ. Btw, I fully understand what they were going for. I’m not stupid. I just didn’t like it.
Snoke was a plot device. thats it.
And to me he was way more interesting than just bringing back Palpatine. I got out of TFA thinking “who is this extremely powerful dark side user and where has he been hiding all this time? Can’t wait to find out!!!”

Andy Serkis truly got snubbed from becoming a great Star Wars villain.
Wow, you must be really fun at parties, almost like a bad car accident... lol

I wish I actually cared about Ben/Kylo. I really do. Most of TFA gave me hope he would be a really good villain like Vader was.

I wish I actually cared about Ben/Kylo. I really do. Most of TFA gave me hope he would be a really good villain like Vader was.

So let me ask this though. So we get to where we are now. 8 was made, it killed off Snoke, gave us a few new characters, Did what it did with Kylo, and killed off Luke. I get wanting more out of Snoke and everything else you have mentioned, but you aren't getting that. So you are JJ coming into 9. What could he do to salvage this in your mind? I've been thinking about that and to be honest, not sure I have an answer so I'm genuinely curious.

And while we are at it, I'll ask those that fiercely defend where Start Wars is at now. 8 did not seem to flow from 7 (the directors have admitted as much, can't imagine you argue that). Now you need to tie them all together. How do you do it? What would bring everything to a satisfying conclusion?
