It is basically attending a special SW only version of Comic Con or the big convention held in O-Town last week. Everything from playing with toys like lightsabers to dressing as characters will be included.

And while some things may well change it was described to me as a 'Star Wars meets DCL on Land' type of experience. ... A bubble within the bubble.
Any sense on timing? I would think they would need to start construction of the resort now if they wanted it to be live when the land opens.

This sounds fun and I don't view this much different than a Disney cruise, just more immersive. With this and Club 33 there's just so many things for me to go into debt for! :)

He was far from the first person to mention a possible Star Wars resort. The day after they bought Lucas, there were rumors about it.

Also, those 'other sites' are just grabbing the info from here, most likely. Besides Spirit, Martin and others have mentioned it as a possibility many times.

True. I just was the first, as far as I know, to say it was a done deal and happening.

And these details are the way Disney wants to go. A bubble inside the bubble ... all SW, all the time ...

Up until last year all of this land was set aside for conservation, but then last May Disney released it from the conservation easement. Plenty of space there to build something like this.

Yup. They're destroying all those wetlands. And it is awful ... but that is WDW today. No master-planning. Knee jerk planning after decades of delay and neglect.

Not like Disney wouldn't have an issue filling this hotel (I can imagine it being booked for years), but would they consider doing M&Gs for hotel guests only? I can see them having some sort of dinner or something with Rey, Finn, Rose, and Poe (depending on the timeline of the SWE story), or other characters that aren't currently M&Gs.

This just doesn't feel like Disney to me. A bit of an overstep in my opinion. I wouldn't be opposed to a Value resort themed to Star Wars, but I feel they are going too far at this point. It just doesn't feel like classy Disney anymore.

Luxury, Boutique, all inclusive, role playing staff, highly themed resort at ultra-lux pricing = unclassy

Value, non-boutique, mess hall cafeteria, motel layout with plastic props and cardboard cutouts at luxury pricing = classy

This all-inclusive, 2-night immersive resort experience at Walt Disney World would include:

  • The opportunity to experience a 2-day story set in the the Star Wars universe
  • Be surrounded in a continuous, story-driven entertainment experience as it unfolds over the course of the 2-night stay
  • Have personal interactions with Star Wars characters 8i live performers throughout the starship (experience the story or simply observe the action according to personal preference)
  • Engage in the story with programs such as flight training, ship exploration, lightsaber training, and personalized secret missions (both on the starship and throughout the Star Wars themed planet)
While staying aboard an all-inclusive luxury “starship” at Walt Disney World, guests will stay in luxury accommodations offering:

  • All meals during your stay: buffet breakfasts, lunches, & signature evening dining
  • Featured entertainment & dinner shows
  • Exclusive park admission to the Star Wars themed land at the Walt Disney World Resort (a new land opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019)
  • Star Wars starship amenities including pool area & water garden, fitness area, on-board cantina, and robotic droid Butlers
As of right now, the experience would be priced at roughly $900 to $1000 per guest.

So basically, in summary, the experience would include…

  • 2 nights in an immersive luxury resort that looks and feels like a starwars space craft (set check-in and check-out dates so everyone is immersed on the same “story” timeline)
  • Room(s) that accommodate(s) up to 4 people, with an interactive “view” (galaxy or pool/atrium)
  • Every meal from checking-in on day 1 to check-out on day 3 (5 meals total, including 2 buffet breakfasts, 1 lunch. and 2 signature dinners with evening entertainment)
  • 1 day of Walt Disney World theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to visit Star Wars-themed land on day 2
  • sStory-driven entertainment that unfolds over the course of your stay (including live character chance encounters, and the opportunity to watch or enage in the story through things like personalized secret missions, flight training, starship exploration, and lightsaber training)
So if this is priced at 900-1000 per guest that 3600 to 4000 for a family of four. There's no way their giving food and tickets to the kdis for free.

Compare this with the 4240 hotels or the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts which were architecturally rich and evoked exciting times and places in American history. Hotel Miracosta, a triumph of execution and art.

This project is all about helping Star Wars fans pretend to live on a Star Wars Spaceship and play with lightsabers. Disney's goals were so much loftier.

I don't know, it's just a feeling right or wrong. Many could accuse me of being hypocritical, especially for all the criticism in which Disney has always taken, which I suppose is valid enough. Still, I feel like this is a bit of a departure.

Intriguing nonetheless...

No, I agree. ... I have no desire to play in costumes while acting out a scene on Hoth. This isn't what Disney was about when they talked of transporting people to different times and places. This is jumping into your favorite movie franchise. It may be done well, but not the point. This is just more of turning theme parks into IP/franchise parks.

I had a feeling you wouldn't like it.

So have you heard of anything similar coming to any of the other parks, or only DHS?

It looks like Tom pieced this together and deserves credit for doing so. I'd love to see @WDW1974 weigh in here because it seems like he was sitting on similar info.

I've weighed in already. I sat on the information because it wasn't ready to be released, that doesn't stop the man-child or others. The same reason I have only hinted at the new dining experience coming to MK or some of the other changes at WDW. I have no doubt he (and others) will borrow the info and claim to have had it first. Having it right is generally preferable to tossing things out first.

A ship full of 30-50 year old jabba the huts walking around? No thanks.

Oh, c'mon. Where's your sense of MAGIC? The force is particularly strong in the 'needs an XXXL Sith Robe' crowd. I hate the idea. But I hate Guardians Tower at DCA and Frozen at EPCOT and the direction that Disney is set on going ...because it simply isn't Disney, it's Bob Iger's 21st century DISNEY BRAND vision. Two very different things. You either get it or you don't.

Or imagine a peaceful dinner with Rebel characters -- suddenly being invaded by the New Odor... blasters galore, pyrotechnics, characters being yanked across the room and a dramatic rescue by the Jedi Knights...

So, I'm wondering how the boutique hotel would work. First of all, would it only be for packages (I'm guessing yes) and not available for "regular" night stays? And, second, would people be able to visit the resort and have meals or visit the shops or just see it? Touring resorts is a bit of a thing at WDW for some folks and this would surely be popular to see for those unwilling/unable to pay the all inclusive fee, but at the same time I could see Disney trying to restrict access to those actually staying there.

Disney is going to put itself in a very bad place with P&R if they keep pushing higher and higher end offerings to increase per guest spending versus organic growth. (And no, this Star Wars hotel won't do that, it's just going to pull guests away from the other deluxe resorts) If we have a recession soon, P&R will become a bigger liability for the company than ESPN.

@ParentsOf4, looking forward to your thoughts on the implications of this project.
