Those pictures make me so sad... :(

But just think, this is going to be closed for about 10 months, and when it reopens it will be radically different. And that's probably a good thing.

I rode Star Tours at Disneyland last week, for the first time in a few years. It was fun, but it also felt a bit tired and worn out around the edges. The technology, while cutting edge a quarter century ago when the ride opened, now feels dated and a tad unimpressive. The queue particularly feels a bit hokey and retro-futuristic.

Just the rehab signage on the glass doors looks sleeker and more modern, compared to the original stuff still there from 1987. Unless they totally mess this up and have Jar-Jar Binks selling DVC memberships in the pre-show, this is going to be a great update and makeover for an aging E Ticket that needs a tech upgrade desperately.

I can't wait for next May!

The Disney Parks Blog has a sneak peek of the video that will play in the queue when the ride reopens:

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/08/new-star-tours-video-makes-us-ask-where-will-the-new-star-tours-attraction-take-us/

Last year, Disney Parks fans learned that “The Adventures Continue” with the return of a new Star Tours attraction in both California and Florida in 2011. Earlier today at the Star Wars Celebration V fan event, Star Wars fans caught a first glimpse of a new video that will appear in the queue area of the reimagined Star Tours attraction in Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year. The video produced by Star Tours is a new “commercial” that shows one of their exciting getaway travel packages.

Today we’re also giving our Disney Parks Blog readers a peek at the video before it appears in the queue next year. While Star Tours now offers flights to new destinations, we cannot confirm that you will travel to any of the destinations shown in this video . . .

Since many Disney Parks fans know the new Star Tours attraction will take place between the two sets of Star Wars Trilogies, and that Star Tours can now take guests to more places in the Star Wars galaxy, what do you think of this video? Is there a destination you hope to visit on the new attraction when it opens next year?

^thats what, I think but we will see. I mean it makes sense that if Disneylands ride is down two months longer than I would think we were getting more updates to the Q and also from what I have heard WDW hates spending money compared to Disneyland.

On the Set of Star Tours with C-3PO

ccc583234SMALL.jpg

Things are very busy in the world of Star Tours, both here in California and in Florida as well!

A few weeks ago I shared a first look at two new characters joining Star Tours, and today, I want to take you behind the scenes and show you what we were working on back in April 2009. We occupied a large soundstage in Hollywood to film a key sequence of the new show. Anthony Daniels flew in from London to bring C-3PO to life on the stage, as well as workshop the script with our writer Steve Spiegel.

Today the Disney Parks Blog confirmed that C-3PO will be in the pilot's seat in the new Star Tours:

As explained earlier, all Star Tours Starspeeder 1000s are flown using the latest AC-series Tour Droids. And in fact, our initial plans were for our flight to be piloted by AC-38 better known as “Ace.” However, in discussions with George Lucas during the course of our production, we decided to take the story in a very different direction.

So…while AC-38 is supposed to be our pilot, by the time we actually take off, the droid sitting in the pilot’s seat will be none other than…C-3PO!

It’s one of the biggest changes and surprises in the new show. “Professional grit stopped me from yelling the glorious new storyline from the rooftops,” said Anthony Daniels recently. “It’s fun having secrets like this, waiting to share them at the right time.”

You’ll see just how Threepio becomes our pilot when the adventures continue next year.

This week, our Imagineering team begins installation of the Audio-Animatronics figures into the Starspeeder cabins at Disneyland park, and next month at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Oh, and for all you Rex fans, don’t worry – we have a spot for him in the new show!

New from the Disney Parks Blog - George Lucas recently visited DL's Star Tours:

gll384543SMALL.jpg

It was a big day for Star Tours recently, as Star Wars creator George Lucas, joined by producer Rick McCallum, paid a visit to Disneyland Park to take a few test rides on the attraction with our Walt Disney Imagineering team. After experiencing adventures to several of the Star Wars worlds aboard the Starspeeder 1000, George and Rick gave the team a big thumbs up on their progress. George even took a moment to pose with the Audio-Animatronics figure of C-3PO in the Starspeeder cockpit!

Stay tuned for more Star Tours updates.
