Star Tours redo tidbit..

They've been testing one aspect of the ride using Body Wars. There is only so much that the previous simulator pods could offer in the way of system tests considering the scale of the upgrades that are needed for the new version of the ride.

They've been working on the more technical aspects of the ride for over a year (at least in the field) while conceptual work has been going on for over two years. The film, though it may take a little bit of time to produce is probably the most minimal aspect of work regarding the project. The physical upgrades and changes to the ride are what will take the longest amount of time to complete.

Isn't one of the changes going to be to the "pod" itself as far as movement goes? I heard that some sort of small track was to be installed to give the pod more movement...and make the sensations better/smoother.

I really hope Yoda and Vader make it into Star Wars 2.0 The biggest problem with the original Star Tours is the lack of popular characters from the movie. That needs to be corrected for the remake.

I do NOT want charecters like yoda and vader in this ride. The reason they were removed so that the ride could fit better in Tomorrowland and be your own personal adventure in the star wars universe not a cliffnotes version of the films.

The star wars unvierse is VAST we do not need anakin, jarjar, luke, leia, han, yoda, and vader showing up to remind us this is a star wars attraction. Just leave the droids and the classic music and give us an ORIGINAL adventure.

Hmmmm...Wonder whose side Disney is going to take on this argument?

It's amazing to see how many things Disney's marketing team has missed lately. In the old days (e.g. DL, WDW Phase 1, and Epcot), Disney bragged about everything to build anticipation. Now they pretend rumored projects don't exist until the last minute; meanwhile, every other company involved releases confirmations. Expedition Everest was pretty much the only attraction that Disney confirmed early (the vertical construction was hard to hide).

For example...
1. Spaceship Earth was "not" sponsored by Siemens until almost two months after the fact.
2. The wand was officially "not" going to be removed, even months after the paperwork was filed.
3. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was "not" closed for a new Pixar attraction, which was officially "not" going to be part of a renamed Studios theme park.
4. The old Five & Dime on Center Street (MK) was "not" going to reopen as a crystal and glass shop.
5. The tower being built next to the Contemporary did "not" exist for almost a year.
6. The Haunted Mansion upgrades did "not" include anything based on M.C. Escher (this denial was immediately challenged when press art was leaked online early).
7. Star Tours is "not" going to be updated, even though George Lucas, Anthony Daniels, and the ILM team working on the project have acknowledged it.

When do you think Disney will announce the new attraction? Do you think during Star Wars Weekends? Speaking of which, im kinda curious how the replacement will affect 2009 star wars weekends. Will it be open by then?

Supposed to be meet and greets, some sort of stunt show/chase scenes with Indy and some bad guy on the roofs and all through Adventureland. I think they were changing Jungle Cruise to mention more Indy stuff and better tie the Indy ride back in. Who knows if any/all of this will actually happen or not.

All of that started at Disneyland last Thursday.

It runs through the summer officially, and it's called "Indiana Jones - Summer of Hidden Mysteries". It's all very clever. Even though Adventureland was already a popular and crowded area of Disneyland, there's more stuff going on there now.

My nephews loved the scavenger hunt with the maps and the Indy icons hidden in Adventureland buildings. The Jungle Cruise stuff was just some new props hidden about, but the skipper we had this weekend was darn funny with them to the point of irreverence. The new stunt show was okay, but I'm not really a stunt show fan so I'm not the best judge. I thought Indy fighting with the bad guys and running around on the Adventureland rooftops and up on the suspension bridge of the treehouse was more fun than the formal stunt show in the theater.

It's just a fun summer promotion for Disneyland, to get the locals jazzed up about their annual summer visit really.

As for the Star Tours thing, the Disneyland sites have been abuzz over Tony Baxter's big plans for Tomorrowland being remade soon. I am sure they'll transfer over the upgrades to Star Tours to the WDW version. They'd be stupid not to.

Disney will announce this when they're ready to close the current attraction and install the new one.

Yea but Disney is lazy. I hope George Lucas kicks there butt into gear!

Certainly this ride has to be open in time for Harry Potter land so the two franchises can go head 2 head in the ultimate theme park war!

The reason that Vader and Yoda weren't in the original Star Tours was that both characters were dead at the end of the trilogy. That said, you can have an original adventure that also features the major characters of the Star Wars universe. If you go into the Star Tours gift shop, over 70 percent of the merchandise for sale features either Vader and Yoda even though neither character appears in the attraction. It only makes sense to have them take part in the new film in some capacity.

Both characters are in the Jedi Academy stage show, why not Star Tours 2.0?

Is it me, or do these all just happen to be in the Iger/Lasseter timeframe. Could it be the Pixar/isolationist style manifesting itself?

Regardless, it's a very interesting observation.

If I had to make a guess that's what I'd go with. I mean if you think about it, very few people know anything about Pixar's films until they decide people should know. And since Lasseter seems to be running the show, he must figure that what's good for one business is good for the other. But I don't know if it works like that for the theme-park industry. I mean HP land doesn't open for a long time, and that's been announced for what? over a year? Disney needs to counter-act, and soon, so they can steal some of the thunder.

Ahemmm.... Song of the South, anyone:confused:?? Nah... They'd never make that into a ride, mwuhahaha:drevil:!!!

Yes, and the Uncle Remus character is no where to be found, his portrayal as a subservient character is the route of most of the film's controversy.
