So as we all know Star Tours will be shutting down soon to make way for the Star Tours 2 refurbishment. When first hearing of Star Tours 2 I have to say I was extremely excited...however I now have a great sense of sadness just thinking about it.

I remember the first time I went to Disney World back in May of 1991. The overall experience was something I will never forget and the joy of Star Tours was something that stuck with me for years. I'm happy that I was able to ride it in May of 2009 before it goes away forever.

I can only hope that they will not destroy the classic ride and que with a lot of prequel footage etc. The original Star Tours had such a amazing charm to it and I'm now sad to think that it might never regain its magic.

Agreed and it is a shame the ride didn't turn out to be how it was advirtised, being very easy to update frequently.
In it's day the ride was incredible of course so was an Intel 486/66 computer with 4 megs of ram and a 1 meg video card.

I'll definitely miss some of it. I always enjoyed the boarding video with the ewoks, wookies, trandoshans and everyone piling on the vehicle and buckling up. I still enjoy the ride through the comet and attacking the death star - though its absolutely insane that a shuttle would survive an attack run.

I expect that it will remain open until after SW Weekends, then close down for the refurb.

Star Tours when I first experienced it was so cool. I still love the ride but am looking forward to seeing something a little new and hopefully more Darth Vador and comapny would be nice too.

For some reason I never have gotten tired of this ride.
I look forward to the new version, but if it never came to be I would still be seeing the original for years to come.

Just FYI-

If you sit in the back row, all the way over to the left as you face the screen, you will be bounced all over the place.
It got to be a joke with us that, for some reason, I always ended up there.
It's actuall hard to stay in that seat when the show is going on. For some reason that place bounces a lot more than the other seats.

I remember experiencing ST when I was eight or nine at DLR for the first time. The line was over two hours long. The theming alone was mind blowing, and the ride was amazing! I'm happy that they're refurbishing the ride. It's very outdated. Is ST2 coming out in '11 or '12? I keep forgetting.

So, what is being refurbed besides the main show and the boarding show?
I really don't look forward to the pod racers - that has to be (in my opinion) the worst segment of the worst prequel to Star Wars.

Awwww...I can identify with the nostalgia (maybe not with this attraction but with others). Embrace your memories...then think of how completely wowed & thrilled you were the first time you experienced Star Tours. The technology was amazing. It was totally mind-blowing. Now just imagine how you will feel when you are there experiencing Star Tours 2.0 for the first time. It'll be something new and amazing and thrilling and you'll have that experience all over again. Don't be sad for what you feel like you'll lose. Look forward to the amazing experience that's yet in store for you! Believe me, I have stuff at WDW that I get all sad about and miss but then there's so much over the years that's been new to me that I've loved and wouldn't trade for anything. Now that the mush-n-gush is over go hug someone!
