Star Tours 2 Soft Opening?

Hey gang!

So I'm planning on being in WDW for my birthday, May 6th, and staying about 4 days. I know Star Tours 2 opens May 20th, but I'm wondering if anyone knows when soft openings generally begin.

I know 2 full weeks might be pushing it, but I honestly am not sure how soft opens work. I'm really just curious and do not want to get my hopes up.

Any info you all have, I would greatly appreciate.

Thanks!

It's possible, but I wouldn't totally count on it. It really depends on how much has changed operationally for the Cast. Soft-openings are mostly used to get CMs acquainted with Guests and Guest flow, as well as them going through the steps of actually operating the attraction. Soft openings are usually for brand-new attractions where going into it *noone* has really operated the attraction before. But in the case of a refurb, it doesn't happen much.

If the actual operation from the CM standpoint doesn't change much between version 1 and version 2 (same safety checks, same buttons to push in the same order, etc), then soft openings may be rather limited. Usually it's only a day or two early, if at all, after they get the Cast refreshed in its operation.

But if they need some time to get the Cast up to speed on new procedures, new safety measures, a new way of crowd and queue control, then you could possibly see a week or two of soft openings.

According to one of my co-workers, who is a former Star Tours CM, it is considered a new attraction. The other big thing is that because it took 7 months to make, nobody who worked on the original will still be trained on it. Soft openings I'd say are likely, but when is the question...

Hey! No soft opening for Star Tours. Unfortunate though it is. We really won't have time for one before our opening. =0)

I work there and we have been hearing a lot of rumors about soft openings. I figured I would just bounce around the web tonight and let people know that there will officially be NO soft opening. Mores the pity. Ah well. Hope this helps. =0)

I sill think there will be some sort of soft opening, even if it's just for executives. They're not going to open on the 20th and hope for the best!

Space Mountain had soft openings when they refurbed it. I can't believe they did more to SM than they have done to Star Tours.
