uggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh! what the heck was that in the second period? no energy at all.

i hate saying i think we've actually out played chicago, but are still down 0-2!

and what really sucked was the early whistle on what should have been the tying goal. niemi had nothing close to control of the puck....

oh-well. the dream looks like it's coming to an end. i'll say in game 5 now....

horrible, horrible, torturous end to what seemed like a storybook run.

If out playing the Hawks means losing 2 games in a row by a goal, then I guess you can say that you "outplayed" us. If getting 4 power plays to none, getting out shot in game one and losing by a goal means outplaying, then I guess you did "outplay" us. San Jose is still saying the same thing and couldn't accept the reality that they were beaten by the better team.

The criteria to blow the whistle is if the referee loses sight of the puck. He obviously did and blew the play dead. Nothing "early" about that. There was a mass of humanity in front of the net and there was no way a zebra could see a thing. And I think it's ironic a filly fan complaining about the officiating when Pronger is getting away with cross check after cross check in front of the net every play the Hawks are down there. Or complaining because you were never penalized in game one when there were 4 or 5 obvious penalties that were ignored. Your team got what they deserved in game 2 with that meat head carcillo in the line up. Nice job laying out your own guy.

Nothing is over, but I like our position!!

first, it's been two really great games to watch just as a hockey fan! love to see the sport on it's way back!!

i'm still down on the puck bouncing the hawks way, and hate to say it but, it seems to be the hawks year.

but as for "maybe richards".... he's been invisible. he was all be super human, in previous series, but not yet this series. we've out shot and out pressured 3/4 of the time. the hawks have been very opportunistic.

you my friend, have been watching a different series than most. i get being a fan, and obviously you know a bit of hockey. but too much kool aide can make you blind.

i'll say that the refs may have missed 2 calls against us in game 1, but they missed that many against the hawks as well. each penalty was warranted. the flyers actually showed some discipline for once. even the color commentator stopped just short of pointing out the (philly-like) whinning when they were screaming for too many men by saying "not even close" in an annoyed voice.

your 4-0 powerplay arguement is weak. and the gap was warranted.

what was exceptional was how chicago handled it. good pressure on the puck, and no open lanes for the flyers to collapse the triangle.

(shots were even in game one btw)

also, san jose was run over. and chicago was exceptional in that series. but besides winning, did you really see anything exceptional from them so far? you're up 2-0. but you haven't dominated. in fact, most times during periods 1 & 3 in game 2 you played on your heals. furthermore, 3 soft goals in game one coupled with the typical philly turnover to setup another goal in their own end, lead to 6 goals.

the argument goes easily both ways. depending on the kool aide. good fortune followed the flyers through 3 rounds, now they may be the victim.
you're right on "the criteria". but that puck was hardly covered. don't want to cry about the refs, but that may have been a critical moment when the losing team typically crashes the net. the mass of humanity really wasn't near the puck, give or take a few feet, lol. but i'm pretty sure any hockey fan realizes the importance of playing a loose puck in front of the net. a series can go either way on just one- kinda like a turnover in your own end.

out of the "ignored" penalties, chicago still had plenty. by wanting credit for calls, you're sounding a bit phillyish.... even by the old-school standards so many in that town live by.

you won, "outplayed" or no, who really need that much respect? whine much? and pronger's cross check.... you see gagne getting knocked down when shooting the equalizer with 3 minutes left? it's hockey, it happens. most fans get that. if you get a win when you shouldn't, in any sport, especially in the championship- celebrate it! don't whine and complain about style points!

and carcillo, agreed. he will never realize his potential. he really does have skill as a forward. but he can never, ever, ever, keep his cool. in fact the matching minors were likely a result of his dbag rep. definitely should not gone to the box there.

good luck the rest of the way! seriously! i really think it's been a fun series, as much as it's ripped my heart out. i've been to every home game in philly so far ( in fact, my buddy and i are in the nbc pregame intro for like 2 seconds....) and it's been an incredible ride. hockey needs a comeback. and this series seems far from over!

Okay my 2 cents and let the flaming begin;

Here, here! :sohappy: I like to call it the Tiger Woods syndrome (um, before Thanksgiving that is.) :lookaroun The media force feeds these individuals ad nauseam on us and force us to either love them or hate them. This was the case with Tiger when his career started to take off. I could appreciate his talent and commitment to the sport of golf, but was just SO sick and tired of seeing and hearing "Tiger this" and "Tiger that" every golf tournament. Even the weeks he took off, all they would talk about was "what would Tiger do in this situation" and "Tiger would have done this if he were here". There is a whole field of great golfers and we are subjected to only seeing what Tiger is doing on the course. They base their commercial breaks around him, not to mention their whole weekend coverage. It was massive Tiger overkill.

Which brings me to Sidney. I have no personal vendetta against the young man. Is he a great hockey player...hells yeah! Would 29 other teams welcome him on their team if given the chance...with open arms! My problem with Sid is, like Tiger, the NHL is trying to market the whole sport on his shoulders, and his shoulders alone. They live and die with Crosby as their savior, their "Golden Boy". He has been in the spotlight since his childhood and really picked up steam in his Midget days. He was gaining national attention long before his junior career and was already being dubbed "The Next One" by the time he hit junior. Again, did he ask for all this to be put on him...no. But he should have realized that with great success comes added responsibility and certain expectations. I realize that he is still a young man, but by becoming a team captain and leader, he CHOSE to accept this added responsibility and needs to realize that the fans and kids look up to him. They watch how he conducts himself, on and off the ice, on a daily basis as the media (especially the Canadian media) force him upon us on an almost daily basis during hockey season. And so far in his young career I have seen a boy/man who has ALOT of growing up to do if he wants to be compared to Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman, Sakic as being great ambassadors of the game of hockey. A good example of a young man in the NHL right now who I feel is the perfect example of what a young up and coming great leader should be is bdevil4's boy Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks. He carries himself like a leader on and off the ice and the NHL needs to start promoting these types of players more in my opinion.

After reading the posts in this thread I feel really OLD as Gretzky, Lemieux, and Yzerman are discussed as the standard to compare Crosby to. I’ve been watching hockey since the original six era, in fact I saw Bobby Hull as a rookie.
IMHO
Crosby is good but he isn’t as good as Lemieux was;
Lemieux wasn’t as good as Gretzky; Bigger and stronger yes but he didn’t have Gretzky’s instinct of where the puck and the flow of the game were going.
Gretzky wasn’t as good as Orr; nobody had moves like a health Bobby Orr, he was the most complete player I ever saw.
And if Bobby Orr, Jean Beliveau, Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull were in their 20’s and players today the CBA would be different as the owners would be calling each of them the same thing; Partner.
FYI just so you don’t think I’m bias, the first game my father took me to was Boston Vs Toronto and as Boston was horrible in those pre Orr days, I rooted for the Leafs and still do; 43 years and counting.

I'm sorry but for 4-5 years of Lemieux's career he could not bend down to tie his own skates and was winning scoring titles from Gretzky while Lemieux was playing with Rob Brown. The only player in HISTORY I can honestly say hold argument at being better than Mario is Orr...who was also "blessed" with a HORRIBLE bill of health.

On another note...these guys playing today will NEVER be 66 or 99. The things those two did with players CONSTANTLY draped all over them is amazing. If 87 or 8 gets hooked while on a breakaway it looks like someone sniped them with a shotgun from the 3rd balcony.

Cherry "discussed" this very thing many times, and somewhere in Michigan Gordie Howe must shake he head whenever he sees it.

Question for you guys...

I will be in WDW next week (YAYYY) during the stanely cup game (GO FLYERS!!!) on Wednesday. Being the poor planner I am, my mom and I have ADR's at 830 in Epcot so will likely miss a good portion of the game. However, we want to catch the end of it...
So my question is... where to go?
Is the game on NBC or Versus?
Do the hotel tv's get versus??
If not, should we go to ESPN.. and if we do how will we get back to our home hotel of Pop that late at night?

I guess it's more like a bajillion questions, but any insight is helpful!

Sadly, missed overtime last night. Both Cameron and I fell asleep on the couch and didn't hear Dad get up to leave. Figured Philly would take the game, but they are definitely not winning the series.. and Pronger is a goon.

Yeah there is a difference between drawing penalties and just snapping your head back and falling when someone next to you sneezes.

Watch a highlight reel of Lemieux...Every goal he scored in the late 80's...he had 3 people draped all over him.

I don't think you'll need to worry though.

They used to hang all over Orr as well and slash him too.
On another note I once saw Orr score a goal while sliding on his butt toward the goal after being hooked from behind. I always felt he should have gotten the goal and a penalty shot as well, but they didn’t call many in the “old days” so the Bruins got a power play. Esposito scored.

A brisk walk to ESPN might be your best bet. Looks like the park closes at 9 so you might be risking it by going back to POP with the masses. Cab might be your best bet from ESPN to POP after the game.

Or do what we did when we watched the game at ESPN... catch the bus to Downtown Disney and then back to POP.

These are all INSANE goals...but the one at 1:35...you will never see someone score a goal like that...nobody is that strong on his skates anymore.
