Standard rooms in Preferred buildings?

Hi...I was wondering if anyone knows if they have any standard room in preferred buildings, in a value resort? Like something facing the parking lot. I am planning for next November, and I need to be closer to the parking lot because , we drive, but I don't want to be terribly far away from the pool and food court.

We stayed in Movies in August and requested 1st floor Toy Story...paying a standard price, and we did get exactly that. I just didn't know if it was a fluke or what. I want to be able to put my request on my reservation, I just wanted to know if this is in other resorts as well, like POR or CBR? Thanks

I honestly think it's luck of the draw. I have always tried to arrive early (like a few minutes before check-in starts) so that I could get a better shot at what room I want. Make sure to include your request on your reservation.

I agree with the other poster that it is pretty much luck of the draw. Arriving early as possible is also your best option. You can always register in the morning, prior to the check-in time, and come back later when your room is ready. We've done this in the past and even left our luggage there, went to the parks and came back when the room was ready.

What you need to keep in mind is that you aren't the only person requesting this sort of thing. The only way to guarantee a prime spot is to pay the additional for the "preferred rooms." No one asks to be as far away from the food courts or pool as possible, but not all the rooms can have these prime locations. Get there as soon as possible and hope for the best, that's about all you can do! Good luck!

At one point in time it wasn't.

At Pop Century 2 or 3 years ago there were rooms in the farther wings of one of the 50's buildings that were standard view in a preferred building.

To answer the question, mention that "close to the parking lot" is important on your reservation as well as a building preference.

Good luck and remember:
You're at DisneyWorld, and it's better than being at home!

We once got a room in the 60s building of Pop that wasn't at a preferred price. It was close to the center, on the 1st floor, but along the back of the building. I don't believe we had them mark any preferences, just sort of got lucky when we checked-in.

Here's a question....does "close to parking" always translate to "close to food court/pool/etc"? I have a feeling in some cases, it may not. Isn't there a parking lot way out by the 80s building in Pop? I've never been out that far, but it isn't exactly close to the main building.

If you are staying at Pop (you hadn't mentioned this?) I would say stay in the 70s building. You don't pay extra yet it is the closest to the buses and food court, IMHO. We even took a back way to get to the buses that was close. We stayed in 70s twice and 60s once (as mentioned above.)

Edit to add: and yes, the most important thing is that you are in DISNEY WORLD. Also, YOU'RE quite on the mark with YOUR signature Yellow Shoes. :)

I think you'd have a better chance of getting what you want if there was a "special need" for your request.

I doubt that they would consider "because you drove" a "special need."

Pehaps they gave it to me becasue I sent a fax a few days before, plus it was on my reservation with ..."repeat guests". My son is autistic and I thought he would love Buzz & Woody. At first I didn't think that was a preferred buidling, but it on some websites/ books they say it is ...others not so. I just wanted a bee line to be able to catch him in the event he ran off for the pool or arcade. Thank God it only happened about 2/3 times. It was still a hike to everything. We were in the Buzz building 2 door away from the last door.

Thanks everyone. I'll put it on my ressie and see what happens. I'll cross my fingers and wiggle my nose. Maybe I'll get lucky!

^^Don't forget faith, trust and pixie dust!

Seriously - let your TA or CRO know that you need convenience due to your autistic son's tendency to wander. I'm sure they'll work with you to get the best possible location to suit your needs. Have a magical vacation .

Just to add, I have been in a standard room in a preferred building at Pop but I didn't request it. Just remember it never hurts to ask at check-in. The worse they can do is say no.
