Standard Room At Wilderness Lodge??

I am staying in a standard view room at Wilderness Lodge in Aug and when I tried to upgrade, it was just too much of a difference...+$300 for woods and +450 for courtyard....since we don't spend too much time in the room, does it really matter? Although I do NOT want to look at a service area or garbage, like some people on here have said they had to look at. The reservation agent took my request for not looking at those things, but I am still worried...Could anyone tell me something positive about standard view? thanks for all the info!

Overlooking the front of the hotel isn't that bad...you get to see all the hussle and bustle of people coming and going, and it isn't quite as loud as overlook the service side. You can specifically ask to be put in a standard view room that overlooks the 'bus stop' area too which will sit you back farther from the parkinglot and is on the opposite side of the resort from the service area.

Also, is that a $300 difference a night or $300 for the entire trip, if it's for the entire trip I would say just do it!

one year our stand view room was over looking a pond with ducks...yes we could see the dumpster but it was inclosed behind a fence. But watching the ducks swim and dive was fun. We have also have side view overlooking down towards the bus stop. That one was an ok view!

you lucked out having the view of the Pond. most of the standard view rooms on that side of the building are over the loading area staring at the smokehouse or right above the air handlers...rather annoying! I agree...the south sideeast side of the resort overlooking the bus stops are probably the best standard catagory views at the WL.

We have stayed in a standard room at the Wilderness Lodge twice.

Once we got a fourth floor room with view of the “quiet pool”. The room was quiet and the view was boring.

The second time we got a sixth floor room that opened into the main lobby but overlooked a service area. The bad part was that we heard the delivery trucks beeping as they backed up in the morning. Using the theory of lemons equal lemonade, I used that as my alarm and got up to shower, shave, shine and get out for my morning walk.

The good part was that every time we walked out of our room we saw the magnificent lobby of the Wilderness Lodge and that every evening we saw the fire works from the Magic Kingdom. The trees have grown since then and may block the view of the fireworks however.

In the words of Monty Python "always look at the bright side of life." You are going to stay in one of the best themed resort at Walt Disney World. Enjoy!

I booked the Standard room twice over the years and got upgraded to Courtyard view both times but this was in 2002 and 2003 so I would doubt you will see this happen again. I really like the courtyard view but now that I have become a DVC member and I all get is Woods view I much prefer that now.

I was just telling her in her other thread that I specifically requested a standard view (I figured I was paying enough to stay at the WL, why pay even more for a specific view), and I ended up getting a room overlooking the pool area. I didn't know if that room really was "standard view", or if I got a free upgrade and didn't even know it. I wondered all through the trip if I had received an upgrade, and maybe now I know that I did.

the only time we got a standard view we overlooked the smokehouse on the 4th floor. We spend time in our room, but to be honest we really didn't mind it at all.

Woods views overlooking the MK are nice (the higher the better), but we usually go with a courtyard view overlooking the quiet pool/Villas, a bit farther away from everything and nice & quiet.

We also had a standard view room that overlooked the smokehouse. It too was 4th floor or higher and it was just fine. Since we normally used the balcony to drink our morning coffee or to attempt to watch the evening fireworks, you never really had the direct view of the smokehouse you would think, and the smell of the smokehouse was wonderful. The only view at the WL we did not care for was when we got upgraded to a honeymoon suite and the view was the bus stop.

My advice to you is, if you think you are going to worry about this up until your trip, you probably should pay the extra money to upgrade to at least a woods view. Since the anticipation of your vacation is a big part of the trip itself, don't ruin it by having this worry looming over you.

We had a loading area view room, after that we always booked woods or courtyard view because we like to have breakfast on the balcony. How many days is the OP staying that it would cost over $300 to upgrade to a woods view?

That's what I was wondering. If she isn't talking "per night" and she's talking about for the entire trip, I would just go for the upgrade. As many know, the only way you can be sure to get what you're looking for is to just go ahead and pay for it.

Though I have been very successful in the past with telling Disney where I don't want my room to be and them honoring it...even at check-in. I think that is much easier for them to accomodate because it gives them more than one option as compared to when you say "I want a room here". If the OP specifically requests, I don't want a room on the side overlooking the Smokehouse/Loading area, I would be fairly confident that the request will be honored without an issue.

To each his own I guess, though I'm not sure what you meant by the part I bolded as the Smokehouse is right off the loading area and all of the rooms that are off the Main Lobby on that side of the hotel look right out onto the loading area and smokehouse. It's not the smokehouse that bothers me either about those rooms, it's the Air Conditioner Units and the trucks that backup and unload early in the morning. Compared to the other Standard Views or the Woods View it is anything but peaceful!

The upgrade was a little more that $300 for 7 nights...I just thought it might be alot for just looking at trees? Not sure exactly what woods view to even request. I really want to look at something nice, not a smokehouse or trucks...

For 7 nights I would do it! Request a view that overlooks Bay Lake!

of course the downside to this (and there is a downside to everything) is that you have a bit of a hike to the main lobby...those 2 wings that make up the Courtyard are a lot longer than they look on the outside...but they view overlooking Bay Lake is BEAUTIFUL!

We had a woods view room last month and were able to watch the MK fireworks from our balcony every night. We were on the 4th floor and could even see the castle from our room. We were lucky though because there was a break between the trees that let us do that. Also, has the OP checked for any discounts during that time? I'm pretty sure there are discounted room rates available for august.

If it's too much to pay for looking at trees, then don't do it, and look at the smokehouse or trucks. I don't understand the argument here. You don't want to look at the smokehouse or trucks, but don't want to pay the extra money for an upgraded view. You're going to get what you pay for.

That's not very helpful advise. As myself and others have pointed out there are multiple options (3 actually) for Standard Views at the Wilderness Lodge. She's worried about being by the loading bay so if she doesn't want that view and she isn't willing to pay for the Woods View, then all she needs to do is request not to be given a room that overlooks the loading bay.

Thank you ...I thought the same thing when I read that post

Not very helpful and really not nice... I am not asking for sarcastic comments..I am asking people who have been to the WL for advice since it is my first time. I am trying to decide whether to pay extra for something I am not sure about...that is why I posted this thread. There actually is no "argument here".

if you upgrade to a woods view ask for a room ending in 022-032...room 6030 is our favorite in that hallway. You will over look the little bog in the back and see some wildlife, those rooms overlook the castle and you may be able to see that and the MK fireworks. We stayed there for our second visit to the WL (we've been over 10 times now) and our girls were able to fall asleep watching the fireworks and watching the castle change colors.

You will be near an elevator, if you take it you will come out at the bottom of the ramp by the Roarin Forks snack bar and just across from the laundry room.
