SSE - Screen Error..? (2 pics)

Being a guy that works in the technology industry its cool to see the back side of things every once in a while. I work for a company that writes all the BIOS code (the screen you see when you first turn your computer on) for almost every non-mac computer that is in existence. We were approached by a company over a year ago to develop a BIOS for a single board pc. The customer had very specific requests that they were looking for and in talking with the guy he said that it was to be used at an amusement park. Well being the nosey nelly that i am i asked which park and he said it was for Disney. Well you can imagine my excitement at this point when i heard this. Come to find out after talking with this customer quite a bit and after a lot of back and forth i found out that i was writing a piece of code that was to control the on board ride control board for TSM. I never thought i would get the chance to say this but i actually helped build part of a ride at Walt Disney World.... :D:D:D

That's cool, but what is TSM? It's driving me crazy trying to think of what it is.

oh wait - Toy Story Mania - DUH!

Neat story.

That's awesome! I REALLY can't wait to see all the new gadgets in that ride!

Could you not have used the touch screen to open "my computer", find all the animation and survey files and drop them into the recycle bin??

That would have done us all a favour (favor)!

I remember a while back someone posting another windows error shown in the star field screens in the post-show area.

I also cannot believe that they'd use Windows for something that needs to be operating flawlessly for so many hours day after day.

I took this pic no long ago outside the MK entrance.

Not neccessarily germaine to the situation at hand, but a related sidebar for those interested in computer systems at Mickeyville... if you haven't done so yet, you should give a read to Steve Alcorn's book "Building a Better Mouse." Since they didn't have perosnal computers (or ones even small enough to fit well and do the job at the same time) when EPCOT was built, a lot of the systems WERE custom built at the time by Dept 510 in Imagineering. Steve Alcorn was in that group and spins a lot of neat tales about having to build computers for the theme park.

For fun...
1) Go to The Seas with Nemo and Friends (Living Seas)
2) Got to the old Turtle Talk theatre
3) Walk up to the big aquarium screen window thingy where crush used to appear
4) Look down at the very bottom of the screen, behind the pretty frame.
5) Revel in Windows Media Player Version 1.x glory. :D

BTW -- I remember during the Nemo musical previews, the seagull bubble screens all went to BSOD after the show.

Old Turtle Talk theatre?! Where crush USED to appear?!

Am I missing something?!

Turtle talk moved theatres at The Seas: With Nemo and Friends. It used to be out by dive tube and now it's all the way to your left when you get off the Nemo ride.

PS: Hi everyone.. I'm the new guy!

Interesting pictures, thanks for sharing.

P.S.: I've never had any problems with Windows whatsoever, I think the stability of the OS depends mostly on the know how of its user. But I am considering purchasing a MacBook.

Since im at the world for vacation today, so i got to do the preview of the SSE soft opening, it wasn't that bad, but the ending wasn't great, but i know they're not completed which i understand that.

Once i was coming down the lift to the ending station, i was greeted with a "no video signal connection error"

seconds later.. it booted up again and it was booting up into INTEL mode and i got this memory usage error and logged into windows (not sure what version) then it went back to the regular screen like its suppose to do.

heres some pics (sorry my camera sucks, its anew camera and im a noob at the nighttime shots)

then i rode it again and noticed at the top of the ride (moon scene) i saw one time machine had the screen still lit on when the rest was off, odd though.

sounds like this ride needs some more serious work and get this all sorted out before the final opening.
They should have used Mac OS or Linux. Imagine what would happen if all of Disney was run on Windows. It would be like Itchy & Scratchy Land from the Simpsons.:ROFLOL:
I'm a (semi) Geek and I am now in the process of switching to an iMac. I really don't like the problems that I have with windows at home & work. I've held out for so many years because there is no version of Autocad for mac, but now I will use bootcamp with a small XP partition just for Acad & use mac OS for everything else. But is is kind of scary to see part of a Disney ride running on Windows. I hope the whole ride is not.

i got somethings to say:
Mac (intel inside) most of them are upgradable even the chips.

They are running on Windows XP Pro (maybe) since is one of the most stable windows ever.

I am not fuzzed about SSE since they still trying and fixing the ride. (there is more that meets the eye)

Well if it was Mac with Leopard, they could just use "Time Machine", and bring up where you just left off! Guests wouldn't suspect a thing as the graphics implemented in that application would blend right in with SSE :drevil:

Sorry, love my new iMac

FWIW, this past week on multiple rides on Test Track, on one of the screens showing the comparison between using ABS and not using ABS, the screen was filled with a Windows error box the entire week. Not cool at all . . .

Mac users always have the dumbest reasons to hate on PCs. Honestly, if I could afford it, I'd use a Mac. But I can't, they still haven't made them available to the lower-middle class person. As for your out-of-nowhere anecdotes about PCs crashing, give me a break, please. The only reason my Windows machine has crashed in the past is because I was dumb enough to go on sites I wasn't supposed to be on, and I learned from that (I was using IE back then, also). If you aren't a COMPLETE idiot, you won't get adware, malware, spyware, or any of the other wares, or viruses for that matter. The reason Macs don't get viruses nearly as often is because not nearly as many people are using them. Windows innovated the operating system and made it usable for the average Joe. Again, my PC is up for weeks at a time, and the only reason it ever goes down is because I've installed something that needs to be updated by restarting. The hubris of the Mac fan base is incredible.
