SSE Paperboy

Why was the charriot taken out, I used to like watching it take the corner and head up the road.

I still look for the missing Roman carriage horse animation. I know it has been removed but everytime I ride I look for it hoping that it will magically reappear. It was just one of those special little touches that added to the magic.

Yeah, that's definitely something I miss and was a stupid idea from the Imagineers. They basically thought it was, and I quote, "silly." The projector window for it unfortunately has long been gone/boarded up for quite some time.

I don't understand what their thinking is. I bet most people who ride SE remember that little projection. Why do they think that removing something and replacing it with nothing is a good idea?

I do kind of see where they were coming from in removing the projection. It did kind of come across as a "ghost chariot" riding down the street...

Now, if they could have come up with something that looked a bit more realistic and not quite so blatantly projected onto the backdrop, I'd be all for it.

When they went into rehab and looked in that area, turns out the fog that was there had actually rotted the floor underneath the boats. They had to redo the entire flooring underneath the boat. To put that in again would be a nightmare.

now come on. Anyone who has ever watched Holmes on Homes knows that they could have installed any number of waterproof barriers and heated flooring to keep the moisture from building up again! Fail!

Another rumored reason that I was once told on why the paper boy faces the wall is due to an overwhelming amount of complains from guests who had to listen to him shouting in their faces over and over again during ride breakdowns and delays. In those situations, he was also too close to the track and guests could touch him.

Of course, that is what I had heard, but not sure if it is true.

Every time I saw that animation I always thought to myself "wow, thats a lot of chariots to be sending down the road"

While I like the old way as a fond memory, I think the new scene is much more "realistic"

They could do it, but it's not as if they could just slap a membrane on there.

Who knows what mechanical pentrations there are in that floor. If you have moving penetrations, you have to allow for that. As for a drain, where would you drain it to? Are there other sanitary drains that high in SSE? Is there a bathroom at 180top somewhere ? You can't just drain it into the gutters under the skin. Thats an environmental no-no. Silly yes, but thats the way it is.

They COULD have just replaced the flooring with a moisture resistant flooring - TREX, marine grade plywood, somthing along those lines. You never really know though until you actualy look at it.

Regarding the smoke, another issue is the shape of the building itself. With the aircon system, and knowing that heat and thus air rises, any large amount of mist or vaopur has the likelyhood of travelling upwards - and fogging the roman scenes.

Those who recall the Cronkite (and Perrin) versions will remember the ascent vortex used to be filled with fog, so think you couldn`t see cars in front of you. It was designed to clear just as the overhead burst animation of lightning appears. The issues with airflow taking the smoke either into the dawn of time, caveman (or even the egyptian) scenes was a major factor in rethinking the effect in 1993/4. Not to mention the times load would become misty if the smoke blew downwards on a blast of cold air.

The short lived 180top laser effect in 1994 was also deactivated since this used water vaopur to create mist; it began to corrode metalwork. Same as E:E. Not to mention it would cause escape stairs to become slippy (also found in WDSPs RnRC). Mist effects have to be carefully thought out. As an aside, Revenge of the Mummy at USF uses 13 different types of fogging effect depeding on the effect needed and its placement. You can`t just turn on a smoke machine.
