her baby teeth wouldn't come out so she had to wiggle them to make them come out. Now the adult teeth don't want to grow. She is very slow in matureing in her body. She is the DD that has braces and they need to put the rest of the braces on. :dazzle: She will be 14 in May but is almost like a 10 to 12 yr old.:lookaroun

I guess she wants to stay young. :)

Seriously though, exposing teeth...that sounds icky.

Thank you, Con...I mean Steph. :lookaroun

I don't mean to sound like a party pooper (or popper as Kat might say) ;) but that is an enormous amount of money. At least it is to me.
It really is. I hope DF didn't spend that much....
I'm sort of glad I don't know.
That is very true. Weddings can get out of hand also. Dresses are :dazzle::dazzle::dazzle: nowadays.
We're finding that out first-hand right now.

No doubt you're worth every penny of it, but I know you know what I mean.

I'm sure you are.
It can be mind-boggling.
Our biggest thing was a budget. Everyone kept asking us what our budget was. Well, we had no idea what everything cost so we've just had to take everything individually. Like florists, for example. We've looked at several, and chose the one where we got the best deal. Otherwise, it was just so overwhelming to look at it as a whole having no idea what things cost.

I agree. It's hard to budget when you have no idea what things cost individually. Shopping around for one thing at a time and getting the best deal for what you want is the way to go. As long as you always know where you stand, money-wise. Some things, like your dress, you don't want to cut too many corners on. Flowers are one place where the expense can be enormous, but really doesn't have to be.

Our biggest expense for our wedding was the florist and she was a friend. I forget what we spent but before we got back from our honeymoon the flowers were dead. :brick:

That's one place where we're skimping a bit.

I realize I'm coming this close to sounding like an old fuddy-duddy. :dazzle:
I'm going to go.
Maybe I said more than I should on the subject of rings, but maybe a little of what I said made some sense. I hope so.
Talk to you all a little later.

But why spend so much money on it then. It shows the love you have but the cost doesn't. I don't know. I think to save the money for your future is better. :o This is just my thoughts on the subject. :o

Hello Joe;

Ours might not be the popular voice here, Susie, but I'm with you.
I'd much rather have that money to put down on a house or to help pay for the wedding and honeymoon. There are really pretty rings out there for much less money. JMO.
Having said that, I don't mean to put a damper on the ring enthusiasm. I think it's great that Joe is putting so much planning into this important step. What girl wouldn't appreciate that kind of attention?

Hello Dot
I know I would appreciate it. I am proud of Joe for planning like he is. :sohappy:

Smart girlie!
Engagements and weddings are special times and are worthy of some extravagance, but I believe it's possible to do it all without losing your head.
If I were Joe, I'd go out and look, just look, at rings that cost half of what he was intending to spend. And then maybe look at rings half the price of that. Somewhere in the middle he just might find something nice. You don't wear the price tag for the world to see. It's not about what it costs, it's about what it means.

I know Joe knows that.
I'm just afraid he thinks he'll disappoint if he doesn't spend big. I just want to tell him he won't. Not if she's in it for the right reasons.

That is very true. Weddings can get out of hand also. Dresses are :dazzle::dazzle::dazzle: nowadays.

First off let me say...

it means a lot to me to hear (okay read) everything you guys said and how much you're looking out for me and actually investing time/thought into giving me advice and really help me with this. Honestly it really means a lot to me!!!

And trust me... I don't want to spend $6000 on a ring... I really don't... at all... i hate the thought of that...

and it has nothing to do with what I think I should spend... it's just... I'm looking for a ring I want allie to have... something I want for her... I like to spoil her (anyone really...)

that certainly doesn't mean I would want to spoil her with this and spend something crazy... I really don't

but like I said, I just want to get a certain kind of ring for allie...

I want something that's at least 1 ct, I want something that will really sparkle... I mean that's really all...

I'm simply looking online to get prices; I'm eventually going to do some "field work" so that I can see "okay, this ring I found online for 6k is this; show that to me, now show me something for 3k, now 2k..." just as Dot was saying... so I can compare

I have a lot of book smarts with these stupid rings now because i really have been trying hard to find one I want... but, I have no clue what it looks like in real life... so; trust me, when it gets down to the nitty gritty... I'm going to try to spend, like dot said, about half of what I've seen online... I'm just trying to get ideas...

Honestly though, before talking with all of you and getting your help though... I woulda started higher before looking at something half the price and seeing the differences, I also wouldn't have realized sparkle is more important to a girl than size... (EXACTLY... SIZE NEVER MATTERS)... and the cut is what makes it sparkle... and color is the next most important...

it's been extremely beneficial and helpful and thank you guys so much!!!! I really appreciate it!!!

And it makes me very happy to know you're all excited for me right now too!!!!!!! :)

I thought what you said was great Dot. I think it was what I was trying to say, but you put more eloquently. ;)

And I'm all about trying to cut corners when it comes to certain things for the wedding. Our cake was $250 for 150 people and our flowers didn't cost much (mostly because we didn't get a lot). These days you have to cut some corners when it comes to weddings. They can be SO expensive! :hammer:

By the way, MIL is doing okay. She's totally "with it" already, but is in a lot of pain. I feel so bad for her. :(

That's a great plan Joe! Very smart thinking. And if you're just looking at prices online, I bet you'll end up finding something just as nice for less money at an actual jeweler.

All of the cake bakers we've looked into charge 'per slice' so it's based on the total number of guests. I had no idea that's how they priced it.
By the way, MIL is doing okay. She's totally "with it" already, but is in a lot of pain. I feel so bad for her. :(
Aww poor MIL :(

Joe, have you looked into BlueNile.com? That's where DF got mine and he said it was a TON cheaper than anywhere else he looked. They have a very, very good reputation too.
