Topic. I don't know, I just don't see the appeal. Why would I wanna do something like bowling while on vacation, when I can bowl any night of the year when I'm home?

Now something like Disney Quest makes sense, a state of the art arcade, not only is it state of the art, but it's an arcade period, which I don't really see anymore. Do they even have arcades anymore? lol

But anyways, back to my original point, I can't be the only one who feels this way about splitsville, right?

Think of it this way, steviej. Some day after we will the lottery and we are spending 2 or 3 months at the world, we will need some time to do day to day things like bowling and movies.

Seriously though, I visit WDW to go to theme parks. I have no interest in doing things like movies and bowling. I don't even watch regular tv when I am in the hotel room.

The only thing I could figure it *may* be useful for, is for those weird days where you just might want to keep the kids busy. For instance, on our arrival day, we will be getting there around noon, having lunch, then just bumming around until our dinner reservations. We aren't doing any parks that day. I'm fine with just relaxing by the pool or exploring our resort and others, but kids sometimes want something to actually do. That's really the only reason I could imagine us ever using it, if even then. I'd probably do everything in my power to keep the kids entertained otherwise before I'd do that. I don't even bowl at home.

Know what else I just thought of, the cm's. As a cp, I took advantage of my discount at the movie theater quite a bit. I know cm's love to go bowling if they get off work early enough, so disney prob figures why not capitalize on that?

Splitsville isn't somewhere I'll spend much time in.
But I'll definitely stop in for a look around, maybe a drink or a bite. I certainly won't bowl.
However, I do think it's a great addition for Downtown Disney.
As Draybook said, it's another nice thing for families to do in Downtown Disney.
I'm pretty sure it'll be popular.
Different strokes for different folks.

Locals. Locals local locals. Locals like to go out and do things at night. Having something relatively unique will help to bring locals back to DTD. And if they happen to stop by HoB or Bongos for a drink, or Ghiradelli for an Ice Cream, awesome. The same thing that the clubs of PI offered. Outside of AC, none of the clubs was really all that "unique", and could be compared to a well themed club in a major city. One of the main reasons behind building PI in the first place was to compete with Church Street Station, (or so go the stories) which wasn't something most tourists would venture to anyways.

Beyond that, you do have bachelor/ette parties at WDW (not a lot, but some) along with plenty of convention guests. They all like to do things other than just the parks. And heck, don't overlook how often at least one (if not 2 or 3) of the parks are closing at 8 or earlier. All you need is a MVMCP party night, and odds are AK closes at 5, MK at 7, and DHS at 8.

Between those, and the amount of people who either need an off day mid trip, or arrival/departure day, I think it should do ok if not priced sky high.

Now something like Disney Quest makes sense, a state of the art arcade, not only is it state of the art, but it's an arcade period, which I don't really see anymore. Do they even have arcades anymore? lol

Ever look at any of the WDW resorts? They almost all have an arcade, typically in the main building.

I meant outside the world, I live in NJ about 10 minutes from manhattan, can't find any!

There is a Dave & Busters in Time Square. As well as several others in that general area. And aren't there supposed to be some amazing stuck in the 80's arcades hiding in some Chinatown alley?

But I agree, if DQ was well maintained and occasionally updated, it would be a phenomenal experience, one that you won't easily find elsewhere.

Maybe there are trying to appeal to the local people there. When the clubs were still therre I used to notice it was quite a hot spot for the locals. I don't know it's just a theary.

I know I wouldn't go bowling on my vacation unless there just wasn't anything else to do.

I think its going to be insanely popular with locals and ppl hanging out at dtd. Most ppl have a no park day and its something fun to do. Plus it will have live entertainment and great food

Loads of people vacation at WDW and have no access to a car. They're stuck on the WDW property.

Many people buy tickets that don't cover their arrival day. If they show up in the morning or early afternoon, bowling is a great way to kill time.

It's also an excellent option for rainy days.

Assuming they keep the dress code in line with park attire, I'm sure some vacationers will go there.

As far as locals...they're like people everywhere else. Some will never go bowling, a few bowl often and most of them will bowl occasionally. Being a Disney fan, I will of course go check it out. I doubt I'll go very often, though.

And as was mentioned, the bowling alley is better than nothing.

I think most others have hit the nail on the head, Disney's just trying things for a wide variety of people. While I may not be likely to go bowling or go to the movies on vacation, it doesn't mean that others, either on vacation too, working there, or locals, won't like using these things. And if something like The Dark Knight or Harry Potter opens that I feel I must see, or I simply get the urge to go bowling, it's nice that Disney's offering me the opportunity. The same can be said for the Disney Golf Courses, some of the activities at the Wide World of Sports, and countless other things on Disney property, they're simply there as an option.

As far as Disney Quest goes, there are arcades offered nation wide. While not as prevalent as they once were, I think that Disney has failed when it comes to this attraction on a pricing stand point. While I'll pay the higher prices for the WDW experiences, DQ's nearly $50 rate is too high for what it is. I tried it out once, and it simply was not worth the expense.

we have the same thing here in Boston... except it's called "Kings".

It's six (6) bucks a string, five (5) for shoes, overpriced drinks... = expensive a$$ bowling
