So as I sit here all packed up ready to fly out of Disney tomorrow....I was looking back on my trip (which went awesome....except for the heat....but it's Florida)

I realized my one biggest complaint was, they totally screwed up Splash Mountain....my favorite attraction since I was younger....I am a taller guy (not large just taller) and used to fit fairly comfortably in Splash Mountain....and since the addition of the lap bars (and new logs??) this ride is not comfortable anymore....

Three things that disappointed me in my favorite attraction since I was last here:
1. Fountains in the laughing place were non existent (under the turtles and jumping) as well as the "FSU" chipmunk thing popping down
2. the new logs suck
3. The fact you don't randomly get soaked stinks haha...used to be one of the best parts of the ride...

Rant over....TDO you have ruined my favorite attraction for me....thanks.

Wow, if this 'ruins' your favorite ride, I'd hate to see how you would react to the castle being pink or something. Wait, what!? :lookaroun

Quick question: You said it no longer "randomly" soaks you? Do you mean nobody gets soaked anymore? or that the same seats in the log gets soaked every time (presumably the front)?

The reason I ask is, I don't like getting wet in the parks, so I stopped riding Splash Mountain a long time ago. If they stopped drenching people, I'd start riding again.

Can anyone confirm?

The problem is, we as the park goer are to blame for the new lapbar system on the ride. Too many idiots could not handle the simple "please remain seated" part of the rules. Some people had the audacity to get up out of the log and walk around the attraction...sometimes getting lost, causing ride shutdowns, etc.

All in all, it was stupidity of the public, not Disney, which caused the new addition of the lapbars.

After the annual cleaning in Jan and Feb of this year, the splash now falls just short of hitting the log going into the mountain. So to answer your question no you don't get wet at that point anymore. So you can start riding it again.

I believe I saw a story on here shortly after the ride opened back up late in February saying that the splash could be adjusted for the warmer months of the year, which is most of the year in Orlando, to randomly splash the log entering the mountain, but I don't know if that's 100% true.

Bingo. Unfortunately the idiots always ruin everything for everyone don't they?

I think he means the random cannon that shoots up and sometimes hits you after you've gone down the big drop and are going around the bend and up the small incline. Which I always thought was unneccesary wetness in the first place.

Yes I'm pretty sure that's exactly what he was talking about, and no it doesn't soak you anymore.

I can try to explain the reasoning behind all of that, being that I do work at the mountain...

1. The Lapbars are a necessary evil. We have them because people kept getting out of their logs during the ride. They are there to prevent that from happening.

2. FSU Gopher is disabled due to something I cannot talk about, but it should be temporary.

3. The water cannons were dumbed down per management because the ride is considered a story ride and because of this, guests shouldn't have to worry about being completely soaked when they ride.

There ya go.

It does make me mad that they got rid of the bit where you get wet from the other logs falling bit because people don't want to get wet...DON'T GO ON A WATER RIDE THEN!

Don't see why they should accommodate the rides to those fools :D

It wasn't an issue with fitting, just comfort....didn't seem like a lot of leg room. and I am not bigger just on the taller side at like 6'3-4ish.

And thanks for the info about the FSU thing and such. I guess ruining it was the wrong word but to see many things not working it was sad because I know they just did a refurb/cleaning in Jan I believe.

And yeah I really enjoyed the random roulette soaking you got from the cannon.

Lap bars/random soaking off won't ruin my enjoyment of Splash, as they're not intergeral to the story!

I like looking for the FSU weasel but again, not integral so I won't get upset over it.

Splash Mountain will still be the best ride in the Magic Kingdom for me.

The new bars were much better than I though they would be so I can't complain about them at all. The only complaints I have is the broken down critters in the splash room. Please fix them.

Im curious to know why you can't talk about the FSU gopher.

It was discovered that the gopher was actually a chipmunk in disguise. This was a clear breach of contract, and the offending chipmunk was escorted off property. They are currently in talks with several potential gophers, and a new one will soon takes its place as a neato-cool character within this whimsical ride.

Apparently the rodent from "Caddyshack' is in the lead slot for the role.....

Rode Splash over Memorial Day Weekend. I'm 6'2", and the lap bars weren't an issue. I didn't get soaked either time, and I didn't notice any issues with the fountains. I will admit I didn't pay that much attention to the figures during the ride, but it was also 11:00 PM the first time I rode it, and after 1:00 the next....
