This all sounds SO much better than what I feared.
I hope it's true!
• Louis story was dropped because the rumor is they couldn't find out what to do with the Laughin Place other than make it a salt mine
• Jim Cummings recently confirmed that Ray is not returning
• No doubt they would've mentioned Facilier by now if he were part of it.
• Plus Keith Davis wasn't listed in the ride cast at D23
• None of the film songs will be reused

That doesn’t necessarily preclude it from using familiar music. Frozen Ever After is a sequel ride as well, but it uses the same tunes with different lyrics overlaid in places to convey an alternate narrative.
Yes, I would be super surprised if they just ditched the original soundtrack and started from scratch. I could see them maybe commissioning a new song for the ride, but not an entirely new soundtrack.

As others have said, that missing trumpet version is apparently no longer the concept being used. It was prior to the salt mine version. I guess the more swampy exterior with Mama Odie's boat atop the hill. And while the salt mine exterior is still pretty stupid, it's better than losing 85% of the animatronics and having a mostly empty video screen based ride (which is apparently what the trumpet variant would have done). The salt mine version is supposedly keeping the animatronics and even adding a decent amount of new high end ones (for the humans I assume). We'll see though.

I don't know if they plan on using zero music from the movie (would be a bit odd if they didn't), but they are apparently pushing it as a tie in to the D+ series. That is a musical series with both new songs and also a number of new characters. These new songs and characters presumably will appear in the ride. The ride is supposedly set after the movie but before the series.

For the record, the series, music and new characters seem to be extremely well received from people who have seen/heard tests. And people who were extremely negative about this overhaul are now becoming happy with it (again aside from the salt mine exterior). Assuming again that any of this second/third hand info is correct. It's not my own first hand knowledge.

Well... There goes that. LOL
Along with any hopes I had.

Much as I'm all for keeping animatronics - as I've said before - in and of themselves they don't make a great ride.
Lots of animatronics in a bad concept, with poor execution won't make this ride better than losing half of them if the ride was overall better if done another way.
As in key characters and elements that made the film fun, including the original music.

When the story of Louis' trumpet first came out, it was mercilessly mocked on these here forums.

Glad to see that people now appreciate that story line.
I think now it's a "Lesser of two evils" scenario. We didn't think that the "Travel the river hunting trumpet but uh oh Facilier interferes" story fit Splash, but at least it sounds more interesting than "Tianas business empire takes you to the salt mine"

The claim I was told was that the ride overall is impressing people. I'm personally fixated on the animatronics, but the story and music they're going with has apparently had high praise from people who were previously extremely negative about this overhaul. I have also brought up the concern that even if they kept all the AA's, it doesn't mean it will work well with the new concept. But apparently people believe this is being addressed and incorporated in a way that will please many.

And yeah, the Trumpet storyline was indeed shared here and hated by pretty much everyone. I would have preferred a straight book report ride over that by far. Especially since the two best characters in the movie (Ray and Facilier) still wouldn't make physical appearances. I'm obviously still very skeptical about this overhaul and again am only operating on second/third hand information from others who know more. But their prior negativity lines up with my own. And whatever they learned about the ride in the past month or two has somehow caused a complete 180 on their opinion. I'll also say that for such a radical shift in opinion to be possible for them, it would require something rather impressive.

It's being stated to be a "worthy replacement" (at least for the Disneyland variant). So my own disbelief aside, i'll at least wait and see what they do with it. And trust me, if this ends up being BS, you won't hear the end of it from me.

Also, Tony Baxter supposedly IS involved in some sort of substantial creative capacity. To what extent I don't know, but enough to have been brought up as a reason to be optimistic. Many of us assumed he had no actual involvement other than serving as a marketing mouthpiece. They also said it had a far healthier budget now after the initial negative reception.

On a personal note (and no this isn't me sharing any information), I HOPE the salt mine theme is largely an exterior thing and doesn't encompass the entirety of the interior of the show scenes. It would make for a very boring setting if the entire ride is just inside of a salt mine. I have to assume they'll have better sense than this at least...

I REALLY hope I don't anger the source behind this though, but I also really hope they're correct. There's scarce hope to be had these days regarding Disney attractions. And every once in a while, if there's any possibility to be less miserable, I think it's better for all of us...

I believe Disney stated the ride would have a new soundtrack since it's a sequel ride
I believe it is the same melodies with new lyrics. At least, I hope that’s still the plan. Otherwise, to hell with the whole thing.

“Louie lost his trumpet!” sounds like a storyline for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney Jr. Surely we can do better.

Ah yes…sourcing local ingredients from a salt mine for my co-op. And…go!
