The tens of thousands of little girls that wait in line every day in their Anna and Elsa costumes to ride Froze would seem to dispute your idea that no one thinks the ride is an improvement.

I wonder if people will still be ranting about how it's actually Splash Mountain 10 years from now.
And I say that as someone who isn't a fan of the retheme, although my opposition is entirely because I don't think Disney will do it justice and we will end up with a lesser attraction. If they build something just as impressive as (or better than!) what currently exists, then there's no issue at all.
The change is happening. What's the point of arguing about whether it should happen? It's been discussed for over a year now; no one has anything new to say.

They probably will, but most likely in the same way people still refer to the Hudson River crossing as the Tappan Zee Bridge as opposed to the new name (I will be honest I live 20min from it and I am not sure of the new new name and it’s been replaced for a couple years.) People just don’t like change.

Seeing as how people Still call Hollywood Studios MGM I think it's a safe bet that people will still call this ride Splash Mountain for many years to come.

I think it depends on how similar the new version of the ride feels to the original one. If it's a completely different experience, maybe "Tiana's Bayou Adventure" will stick.

I honestly think the name will be interchangeable from a guest point of view at first. As for a different experience for the ride itself we shall see. If it's a ride through the bayou with singing animals while Tiana, Lewis, and Navine start talking plot points it'll feel similar.

I didn't mean people still referring to it as Splash Mountain in that way. I was really talking about the people who are adamant that it will always be Splash Mountain no matter what because they have ideological issues with the change -- that they will refuse to call it anything else.

I have to imagine (hope?) that such people are a small minority. I’m not sure what anyone has to gain from that level of denialism.

I don't want Splash rethemed, and disagree with the motivation for doing so.
Those are things I'll still argue about.
But it is being done.
I did however watch PatF just a couple of days ago, so that I would know what I was talking about and have a better idea of the movie.
The movie was very good, and the visuals as well as songs certainly lend themselves to a good retheme should Disney put the required work in, which of course is something most of us are worried they won't.
Box office sales, much like music sales aren't always a good indication of good work.
Again, the movie was really well done - and I'm regular guy saying this, who watched it alone while my wife was at work.
I'm retired.

It's the only way to go for me. You have the "Hard copy" of the music on CD plus the digital files.

But is Splash popular due to the ride system or the theme?
A friend just went down with his daughter's school group - 140 middle schoolers and they all enjoyed Splash but not a single one knew who the characters were or where they were from

With my 13yos POV Splash is memorable as "the water ride" at Magic Kingdom. We haven't been in 3 years, but she didn't know who the characters were either. Thought it was a different story about Peter Rabbit instead lol

That is sort of the beauty of that ride...you don't need to know who the characters are or where they are from to enjoy it...It's a beautifully done musical spectacular, full of characters and motion, and the longest most visual log ride that was ever built... It could have been any character if it was populated with as many animatronics and visual candy. I think it stands beautifully with no real reference to the film... But a Tiana retheme can work as long as it has the same amount of character and settings... But the name Tiana's Bayou Adventure is really terrible. people will end up calling it Splash forever or just "Tiana"... "Let's go ride Tiana...." There has to be a better catchier name for it that will stick.

It's not the Br'er theme itself (i.e. not the IP) -- it's the overall theming quality. it's how detailed everything is with the physical sets, AAs, etc.
Otherwise it could just be a simple log flume ride. People would still enjoy that, but no one would consider it a masterpiece.

And the music.
Zip a dee doo dah, is one of the must hummable tunes.
There's a reason it was a huge part of Disney.
And with Splash, it just added to your happiness as you exited the ride.
You walked away singing it in your head, it along with the ride - just made you feel good.
PatF has some good songs, they'll work well and I can imagine them having some staying power with riders.
But, they're not Zip a dee doo dah.

Exactly. It always seemed to me pretty much the pinnacle of Imagineering for the integration of story and physical ride experience in a way that was very intricate and well thought out, but reads as almost effortless. Not to beat a dead horse, but on another thread there has been a debate about the Dinosaur storyline and that, to me, is the example of a far more clunky effort to engineer a storyline to fit the ride technology that you need to literally explain to guests before they get on the ride. Splash just sort of unfolds as you move along, with sets, lighting, and music all creating a compelling atmosphere and driving the story along.
This is the one thing that has me nervous about the new version. At this point, I am more or less in agreement the re-theme was going to happen someday due to the source material. The main concern is whether Imagineering can come up with a ride that shows the same level of skill as what it's replacing.

DL guests already do this, where they shorten the names of rides and attractions, and I’m pretty sure WDW guests do it, too. Do you personally always say each attraction’s full name?

Indeed, it seems a non-issue. I'm sure most people already just say they're just going to ride Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Buzz, Pirates, etc. If I had to guess, this will just become "Tiana" which seems fine to me. I think people even shorten Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain to Splash and Big Thunder!

Yep! And CMs tend to shorten them even more. When I worked in Fantasyland, we used “Pan,” “Snow,” “Alice,” “Toad,” “Carousel,” etc. We likely all do it. I have referred to Splash Mountain as simply “Splash” a gazillion times.
This is another “issue” that people are making up.
